Impressive beyond words. Amazing finish effect, stunning pieces. Unbelievable they were carved mostly with only a knife. As a beginner, seems impossible that one could learn to be that skillful, I'm afraid that you're just too talented. I'll try nonetheless, these pieces are my reference for the years to come. Thank you and congratulations.
Brother, i thought the exact same thing about a year ago, then i committed to carving at least an hour every day. I've learned so much by doing that. You can do this too, and the path isn't as daunting as it might first appear.
Very good video! I've used Danish oil on a few of my projects and you do have a few choices from lighter to darker Danish Oils depending on what you're trying to achieve. Those carvings look awesome!
@fouroakscrafts7240 Thanks for the kind words. I love Danish oil, and it's good to make sure people realize they have other options besides painting. I like the more rustic look of these just ad much!
Hello, Johnny love your carving videos they help me alot. I just had a question the stain does it stay dark or can you get lighter by whipping more off? Just was wondering. Thanks for sharing your talents. God bless and have a great night. Jeff
You can go a couple of routes to get it lighter. 1.) Don't use "Black Walnut" and instead use regular walnut, or a different lighter danish oil. 2.) you can dilute it with mineral spirits if you choose. 3.) As you apply it, keep wiping it and don't cover area's a 2nd time like i did in the video.
@GregShaw-f5n absolutely. You can get a nice dulling or muted effect by doing it and then danish oil over the top. But if you want it brightened and more vibrant just paint after the oil. If you apply wax, do that as the last step after all the paint has dried and cured.
@GregShaw-f5n just a stiff bristle wooden brush from Amazon. Both are different brands. I just like having wooden ones, but it doesn't matter really. They are like $8 on amazon.
