older video but still showed me alot man! weird question but what was the temps of your garage when you sprayed? Duracoat says 68-72 F recommended, but its the middle of winter and Im impatient lol
My 870 killed a lot of ducks before I made the switch to benelli. Got the salt marsh scars to prove it. Hard to beat an 870. Kicks high flyer all the way !
Thank you for the vid. I know it hasnt been through a season yet but if you have been shooting or handling the firearm how has this held up? My 870 express has seen better days and the cheap finish is a rust magnet. Wanted to duracoat it to remedy the rust issue when its in the marsh and the blind but worried how it would hold up
Thanks for watching man! And I think you'll be very pleased with the duracoat, especially for the price. I have no signs of wear on the coating from handling the gun and have only a few small scuff marks from the gun resting on the side of my boat (they are hardly noticeable). No rust either. The duracoat definitely got put to the test and held up 👍 I'm super happy with it. Just make sure you give it time to harden and properly cure and you're golden. Hope that helps!
@@ChazVanTassell thanks for the quick reply. I realized after i commented and double checked the date to see that it actually has been through a season. Glad to hear it held up. I think this will be my project after the end of our goose season this year
moi toi I know that your post is a year old but for future reference, after you apply each coat you can use a hair dryer to speed up the curing process.
Joshua Soper thanks man! The finish is holding up great actually, pretty impressed. Haven't had the chance to get it in the blind quite yet, but hasn't chipped/scuffed/scratched with all the skeet shooting this year.
How high of heat are we talking about? I've got the barrel plenty hot and there has been no loss of color or chipping/loss of the paint or its color due to it. As far as extreme temps, I have no idea how it would handle it.
I'm assuming your referring to the magazine tube correct? I suppose you can, but it has the pump sliding up and down it and coming into contact with it every once in a while. Personally, I didn't want to paint a moving part that would wear. It just seemed cleaner to me I guess.
@@ChazVanTassell Yes the magazine tube. I can understand that. You're the second person I've seen not paint it. Thanks for your video still very helpful.
I don't see why you couldn't, the key is take your time prepping the area. I would probably sand it/rough it up a tiny bit to give the paint something to stick to and then clean it well. Hope it turns out for ya!
That stuff is 100% full of xylen. I guess the monitory cost to professionally have it done isn't worth a FULL FACE mask, tyvek suit to keep it out of his skin or stencils to make the job sweeter. Broke people do the stupidest shit 😂
Held up great! Still running the same paint with no touch ups and minus a couple spots where I rest the barrel on the side of the boat its damn near perfect.
@@ChazVanTassell Thanks brother, from one sportsman to another I really appreciate the video as it's not crazy long and was very straight forward. Shoot straight and knock something down!
Nope no problems with a hand gun. Never said my "technique" was good or I'm a pro either. Just an average guy who was looking for a diy touch up on a shotgun. Next time I duracoat a gun I'll have to be sure and check out one of your vids and see how the proper way to do it is... If you had any up that is. Thanks for the view and comment though 👍
