@@radikaul so I didn't have the 2-hour window I wanted, but I applied it probably an hour and a half before getting tattooed. I wrapped my arm in Saran wrap and it works for a good 45 minutes to an hour. But I did find out this little trick that's foolproof; If you're just getting line work done you can use a numbing cream meant for tattoos for your line work. There is a numbing cream called Mithra that is 5% lidocaine and 5% prilocaine. My tattoo artist pointed out to me, she said it lasted for an entire 2-hour session of line work. So what you want to do is get a numbing cream and apply it 2 hours or so beforehand and let your skin absorb it. When you're getting your line work done, the artist can just wipe it all off and that can be one session. Now, once you go back for coloring, you can use something called the wipe and fill method. Essentially what you do is peel back the Saran wrap and wipe the area off that's getting filled section at a time. That way the numbing cream will be on the area until the very last second it's getting filled. That's probably the best advice I can give on completely numbing tattoos. Boogiegman Awesome! My tattoo is 2 days! I have gel and spray. It’s on my sternum so wish me luck. 😭 The spray only works on broken skin so not sure how shading is going to work.

Boogiegman I only used the gel anesthetic. It’s only 4% and it was amazing. I didn’t feel a thing.

You shouldn't need to use the wrap for a nose piercing. Though because the nose is pretty much just cartilage, I don't know how good the numbing cream will work for that. Any other skin piercing though it should work great.

The nose peircing is quick, a tattoo can last hours

Yes the process is the same but you can just get small pieces of glad wrap and put them over the areas where you will be getting threading. There is no need to put tape on your face to hold it down the numbing cream should hold the glad wrap in place until you get the threading done. You can always ask the person doing your treatment what is the best way to apply numbing cream for threading. They should be able to help you out also. Hope that helps :)

@@prekaasbishesar7890 yes I did and it worked for the most part. There were areas where I felt nothing! But I didn't let it sit long enough for some areas and had to reapply. Put a very generous amount on and wait a good full hour at the least!

Go to chemist warehouse, then the pharmacy desk. Ask for topical lidocaine 2%. Should be more than enough. I am a pharmacology student and learned this neat trick for when I had my wisdom teeth out. I numbed my gums for pain relief. Please use the directions on the back :)

Riskit Dr. Numb can be used for a number of different applications, such as tattoos, tattoo removal or even just putting over an insect bite to take away the itch and disinfect the skin surface etc. Hence why you may be seeing that info. Dr. Numb actually contains Benzyl Alcohol so not sure why they would say not to use an alcohol wipe to clean surface prior. When it comes to tattoos and tattoo removal though, you can clean the skin with either an alcohol wipe or just warm soapy water. This comes down to personal preference though, we have found both methods to work fine and have no effect on the numbing cream. Some of our clients do not clean the surface prior to applying the cream and the results stay the same. We will always clean the surface of the skin before doing a treatment though. The reason a tattooist will wipe away the numbing cream before they start the process is so that they can remove the numbing cream film left and then apply the stencil and make it easier for them to see the area they are tattooing. Also once the skin is broken you cannot re apply the numbing cream because it can cause an infection. This is why all the numbing cream is wiped off and the surface of your skin is cleaned before the tattoo begins. Hope that answers your question

The best way is to cut the cling wrap into pieces and lay them over the area you will be getting tattooed. You can than use some tape to stick it all down so the numbing cream doesn’t rub off onto areas where you don’t need it to be.

You can cover large areas if needed to but just be mindful that the numbing cream will only last 3-4 hours.

You’ll appreciate a pain free tattoo experience after all that! I think after getting so many tattoos you deserve to use numbing cream in those real painful spots! Haha I find putting it on an hour and a half before the tattoo works best for me when I use numbing cream.

Numbing cream is fine to use for piercings. You can apply it the same way.

You seem to be doing everything right. For some people the numbing cream just doesn’t work. It could also be once the skin is broken and the tattooist goes over the same area the numbing cream is then a lot less effective.

For tattooing the numbing effect tends to fade shortly after, your artist should have some bactine or similar spray with lidocaine in it that they can apply if you request them to.

I’m not sure if it would absorb in that area as it would be a hard spot to keep the cream on. If you do give it a try and it does work, please let me know.

You will only have to leave it on for an hour to an hour and a half before hand. Any longer then that doesn’t change the effect of anything. The amount of time it will keep your skin numb though varies person to person but I find personally I get around 3-4 hours of the area staying numb.

Areas with less fatty tissue, I find the numbing cream to not be as effective such as feet and hands. I have a few clients who use numbing cream for their laser treatments on their neck and they are pretty happy with the numbing effect on the neck area.

Dr numb didn't make my tattoo painless on the back of my neck but it did reduce it. However it did not work at all on my foot. Actually going to buy a different brand for my next 3 tattoos that my brother in law told me about I will never use Dr numb again and tell anyone who asks to never buy Dr numb they might as well just flush there $50 down the toilet

It does work with piercing but on areas that are mainly cartilage the numbing cream is not as effective.

@@oreo3216 around your nipples is fine to apply the numbing cream. Around your Brazilian and butt area is fine as long as it is not directly on the genitals. You can apply the numbing cream without the wrap if your unable to wrap those areas, it will still be effective

get a bottle of vasocane as well. make sure you use plenty of cream and wrap it well for a few hours before. when the cream wears off the vasocane will buy you another hour

I find if you put a thick layer over the area and then wrap it up with cling wrap for an hour and half before your appointment you’ll get the best results out of the numbing cream. You can also have a hot shower before applying the cream so that your pours are already open when you go to apply it.

When I’ve had that area tattooed using Dr. Numb I just felt the vibration of the tattoo machine, and there was a very slight pinch but that was it.

You must be buying a different numbing cream or counterfeit. Dr Numb only comes in a 30g tube and you can apply a thick layer and cover a large area with only needing one tube.

It does work for a head tattoo but it’s not as effective as there is not much fatty tissue on the head for the numbing cream to absorb into.

You can get 10.5% lidocaine online. That’s what I use and it numbs the shit out of my forehead and if you are doing PDO threads It’s a must have

@@yeon723 it can sometimes have an effect on the skin when it comes to getting the tattoo, depending on the area and the design of the piece. Each tattoo artist will have their own opinion on it though. I have previously dealt with artists who will have no issue with you using it and some that do. It really just comes down to your artist and what they prefer.
