I went to the store looking for pumice and the guy i asked didn't know what it was and asked me if i was looking for hummus. We were in the garden section. So yeah. Don't know anyone who would look for hummus in the garden area but okay. Lolz, But i left with 4 succulents so Was it Awkward: Yes Was it Worth it: Yes And did i leave with a craving for hummus: Also Yes

🤣Hilarious! BUT .... there's a type of dirt called humus (pronunced h-yoo-mus) - still not what you want for sucs ;)

It's good stuff! I prefer the 3/16" fines for 'all-purpose' use - but I've had the smaller and bigger fines and enjoy the variety! Looks aside, I seriously think many of my plants' lives depend on it because of the climate in Houston.

You are SO FUNNY on your requests for being paid in pumice!! 😆😆 I have two boys also! My older one loves looking at my succulents and helping me with them! So whenever you make an arrangement I guess it doesn’t matter what varieties of succulents you use? For example one that requires less water than others. It’s OK to combine those together? Then how do you water this arrangement after you’ve placed it together?
@marieandruby

Just bought my first two succulents so am really enjoying your videos and am learning a lot. When did you water the arrangement after potting it up? Did you wet the potting mix first?

Hey girl! Love the videos! So do you mix the pumice in the soil or just on top?
@SucsForYou
@SucsForYou 7 лет назад
Hey thank you!! and TLDR: Both! Rather than mix it into my main bin of dirt (which is just top soil and equal parts or more perlite for the base), I put a scoop of pumice in the smaller box I'm working with. Then I add extra around the roots and finish with a top dressing. It sounds like a lot of pumice but doing it this way lets me make sure it's distributed where it's needed most with less waste of precious pumice :)

@SucsForYou

Nah not really ;) Drainage materials will help keep the soil aerated but you don't have to worry about the soil staying wet for too long.

What size pumice do you recommend?
@SucsForYou
@SucsForYou 7 лет назад
I like the 3/16" fines from General Pumice - it's a medium size and good for adding to soil and using as a top dressing. I've used smaller and bigger- small is great for mixing into dirt, big is great for cacti, but the medium size is just right for both ;)

why do you use top soil versus potting soil for your blend?
@SucsForYou
@SucsForYou 5 лет назад
Potting soil tends to have fertilizer included and succulents need a low cal diet compared to flowers etc ;)

pumice? could I break a bunch of dollar tree foot brushes?
@SucsForYou
@SucsForYou 7 лет назад
HA!! I'm sure you're not the only one to have thought about this... but alas nope, it's different and I don't think it will be any cheaper than buying the real thing :D However, if you order a bag of pumice, you can use that for your feet, so add multipurpose product to reasons to buy some? Just go for it- you'll be very glad you did-- you deserve it and so do your plants. I get mine from General Pumice and they'll offer 10% off on occasion - you can sign up for their newsletter to get the notifications -
