How to Ask for Letters of Recommendation for Medical School

It can be very intimidating requesting a letter of recommendation for medical school, but it is something that has to be done. Check out this video as I take you through the different types of letters, how I asked, the mistakes I made, and how YOU should request your LOR.

MOCK LETTER
Good morning Dr. ***,
My name is *** and I worked on [name of project] with you in [lab]/ I was enrolled in your [class] in [year]. I am applying to medical school for cycle 2023 and would love if you could write me a strong letter in support of my application. If so, I am requesting that the letter be submitted by [insert date] to AMCAS/AACOMAS/TMDAS.
Please see attached for the LOR form, my resume, and personal statement. If you need any further information or would like to discuss my medical interests, please let me know.
I look forward to speaking to you soon.

Girl you did this video. It’s filled with so many great tips. I love that you always provide samples, and then tell what you could’ve done better. That’s a key teacher move. Love it. Slash why did the little Mickey Mouse over by the plant scare me?!? I’m giggling.

not Mickey scared you. i just hollered🤣 my friend asked me why i had it lol. that plant and Mickey were a gift when i got accepted to medical school last year hehe. so i shall keep them around (as long as the plant doesnt completely die on me🙃)

Honestly with this process I just had to ripe the bandaid off. Everything you said in this video I agree. If you build relationships with teachers it will be a breeze. I was nervous from graduating almost 2 years ago. Do you have any tips on writing a CV? I’m so happy you have this video! I was searching your channel before sending out my emails.

Hi Taylor! You're honestly the reason I created this video haha. bc of a comment you left on a previous video! so thanks, sis! I discuss roles and responsibilities held in a position. I also included my volunteer organizations, awards, and hobbies so that people can see that I am a well rounded person outside from academics

Right right. Begin with the end in mind, and know that you’re going to need those LORs. I mean authentically build the relationships, but you gotta be intentional. Yea what you said, we ain’t being fake! You need people!!

What if you didn’t build a relationship with your professors? My science classes are so big 😭

it is never too late! i'd start emailing professors asking to meet with them. tell them that you were in their class and would like to go over a few concepts with them. do that a few times before out right asking for the LOR. it never hurts to try. the worst they can tell you is no, and then you move on to the next professor. are you applying for cycle 2023?

@@TheDermit123 step out there and just do it. ya need the letter anyway. and most schools ya need at least 2 science letters. just do it, ya got this!
