Need more Jenny & Grace. I much prefer Jenny's accent to the Beijing-arrr. She sounds like more regular Chinese people in Shanghai and Taiwan. Great team!

this is a very useful lesson! Can you explain more on some characters, such as "买” and “卖”, they look similar and sound similar. so what's the difference between them?
@ChinesePodTV
@ChinesePodTV 5 лет назад
Hello Ying, we're glad you find it useful! Sure. 买 is pronounced mǎi, 3rd tone, and is a verb that means 'buy' . The next word, 卖 is pronounced mài fourth tone. It is also a verb, and it means to 'sell'.

Just say WiFi. I lived in Beijing for a few years, and spent months in Chongqing, Guangzhou, and lots of other towns (I’m a photographer). Everyone understands WiFi.

I have a question: at 6:40, the teacher at the left says zao3can1, but her zao3 sounds like a zhao3 to me. is it because of her accent? and if so, where is that accent from?

I like your lessons, they'are very practical. Just a tiny error at 6:42', Jenny mispronounced zăocān as zhăocān. But it does not matter at all, we all make mistakes while speaking. Thank you for making great videos!
@ChinesePodTV
@ChinesePodTV 5 лет назад
Hi Jing xu, thanks for your positive feedback. Jenny's pronunciation is due to her accent from Southern China.

Very useful lesson. I have one quick question - Jenny mentioned both “哪里买裤子" or "哪里卖裤子"? So, it means that I can use either“哪里买裤子" or "哪里卖裤子" when asking where to buy pants? Thx!
@ChinesePodTV
@ChinesePodTV 5 лет назад
Hi Chloe, thanks for your question. Yes you can use both. However, there is an important difference to understand. 买 mǎi means buy whereas 卖 mài means sell. So, the first question is asking, "Where can I buy pants?" while the second question is asking, "Where sells pants?"

Hi, I notice around 7:05 you pronounce the word as 'buy' but the Chinese character wrote 'sell'. Can i know in this context which one is the correct word and intonation to use?

计画 should be 计划. And At 2’07”, the host pronounces 这里 as zhe4li2 instead of zhe4li3
@susannaallmeroth5006
@susannaallmeroth5006 5 лет назад
In the first example, the translation in English includes a "free WiFi ", but in Chinese there's no "free". Do you assume that it is free WiFi when you go to China?
@susannaallmeroth5006
@susannaallmeroth5006 5 лет назад
In some hotels they do charge wifi fees, so I would not assume WiFi is always free.

The way that the dialogue was broke down was easy to comprehend and memorize, but the example dialogue at the beginning was pronounced very unnatural. Btw 6:50 Nǎ li should be Nǎlǐ, same as the previous examples, which should have been a typo. 8:51 biānyánzhe should be written as biān yánzhe or biān yán zhe.

I think there is a problem with your explanation about Wifi in Chinese. Wifi is not 网络, it is 无线网. In daily conversation, if you ask "这里有网络吗?", of course people will understand you're looking for Wifi. But on the word level, Wifi should not be 网络. Also "Along the street" is explained as 在街边沿着, which is not the usual way to say that. It should be 沿着街边. Another thing is 我不懂这个词 (I don't understand this word). I think in Mandarin, we say 我不认识这个词.
