Pro tip: look at the farmers equipment and invest in a John Deere, Case and New Holland hat and wear them accordingly.

I like to give landowners meat after the season and always ask if there's something I can help with on the property, just helps facilitate the relationship and shows that you're grateful.

When my daughters were young, I would take them with me when scouting for ducks and geese, they like riding around with Dad, we stopped off at a old farm one day were a large number of geese were landing in a cut corn field, we walked up to the door and we were met by a sweet little old Lady, I introduce myself and my Daughters, next thing you knew we got invited in, and that sweet Lady got some cookies and milk for the girls, we talked for a short time and locked in a great spot to hunt. The next day could not get here soon enough, after getting set up and waiting for the Geese to show up, a truck stopped out on the road, and here comes some guy, he walks right out into the middle of my decoys and ask what I was doing, I told him that it was obvious that I was hunting, he then asked how I got permission to hunt, and that he was trying to hunt this farm for years with no luck, I politely ask him to leave, without telling him about my two secret weapons.................

If you’re batting .300 on getting permission, you’re doing pretty good. Also, if you’re a parent with a young kid, bring them with you and make it clear you want to hunt with your kid (but only if you’re actually going to hunt with your kid).

Spot on!! The first property I asked to duck hunt I got a hard... YES!!! The guy asked if I hunt geese too so I said yeah me and couple friends love hunting geese! So he said "KILL EM ALL!!" His farm grows soybeans and corn as a cash crop and the geese were decimating acres of his soybean fields. So we went in and smacked a bunch. At the end of the season my buddy and I sent him a thank you letter letting him know how we did and sent him a $20 gift card to a tractor supply. I called him again this summer and he said "Yep you're more than welcome to come back, we've got geese everywhere and they're eating everything in sight so if you can hunt them that would be much appreciated! Basically he asked us to hunt his property. A little hospitality and kindness pays off

I’ve got 52 properties that I need to get in touch with, using OnX I’ve color coded them and given them reference numbers. And given how I dislike getting random knocks on my door, I’ve elected to mail a typed up letter to all of them with my contact info and each properties reference code to cut down on wasted gas

I do this for deer hunting well before the season starts. I've offered to help them with projects. Sometimes the owner gets a little too "rule happy" and then its just time to move on.

I've had good look talking to land owners here in Pennsylvania. Deer hunting is basically the most popular kind of hunting around me so most people don't care about waterfowl or small game but god forbid you ask to hunt deer lol

I think it's important to note also that landowner isn't the only interested party for hunting privileges. If you do secure permission be sure to ask about renters or leasers and get their information too so everyone is on the same page. It's not fun to get landowner permission and a grower comes out steaming mad during a hunt.

The one thing I’ve always told my buddies when they’re shy about asking for permission properties is you’re literally no worse off if they say no. You can only gain and benefit from going around and asking.

Asked for permission on a giant property for geese the first time. The guy was a property manager and his reaction wasn’t what I expected; “kill em all.” Of course I offered to take him along and show him how it’s done. Got my fingers crossed that we’re able to wack the crap out of some geese September 1st

Yes always pick up your trash and other people's trash. Pick up your spent shells. After you hunt always offer some of your kill to the land owner. When you're asking around for permission make sure and jot down all your yays and nays because you dont want to ask people a second time and piss them off if they already told you no.

Here in Kansas I find that if you are close to a bigger city like Wichita, Topeka, Lawrence, Kansas City, etc. Then there is about a 95% chance you will be told no. The only areas I've ever had luck getting permission to hunt are around Emporia State University. Lots of Turkey haters up there!

@kolbymiller328

I'll make a big list lol -It's usually one of the last bodies of water to freeze in that area. -It has extremely low hunting pressure -kdwpt doesn't make a waterfowl report for this lake so its easily overlooked by public land hunters. It's mainly locals that hunt it. But even then the pressure is LOW..... -If it freezes, the birds always keep a hole thawed -Great natural concealment, no need for blinds. The only catch is that you have to hit all the cold fronts just right. If you do this you will limit out on ducks and geese.

I just paid $30 a few weeks ago. They also launched some seriously cool layers for big game hunters. It is hands down the best service out there. For $30 it's a steal. For $100 it would still be worth it.

I've had a lot of luck in my area by offering up some manual labor. One land owner who's a little older asked me to set up his deer stands for him in exchange for hunting privileges. That's the best pond I have.

Asking for permission in my area is almost non excitant, cause no one will let you hunt unless your willing to pay. Thats why in my area the number of hunters has gone really down cause if you don't go out and buy your own land or have the money to lease your own land you can't hunt.

In my area in Southern Minnesota it's non existent to ask landowners to deer hunt on their property during gun season. All the land is either owned by people who hunt, or have others hunting on it. You really have to know someone to get lucky.

Hey good video, honest tip here though carry some hold harmless sheets or whatever there called, you can print them right off the NRA website. I've often been told no due to liability issues when they say that I tell them Il be willing to sign something stating I can't sue them if I break my leg in a gopher hole on there property. It's worked before you can get the sheets off the NRA website.

Doing trades is a great way to get permission too. You do something for them, like help load hay bales for a couple days or help pull out their dock at the end of the summer, or giving meat after the season, then it's a lot easier to get a yes. Also, it's easier to get access if you're hunting problem game species like geese. In my home state of South Dakota, its damn near impossible to get a yes to pheasant hunting, because that's what everyone shoots. Deer run a close second behind pheasants. But waterfowl is far easier to get permission since a lot less people do it.

just tell them if they hear shooting to stay away and not screw up your hunt. Also any cows that accidentally get shot are their problem and they should not have them close to where you're hunting. Tell them to just till in the empties you left and any crippled birds they find tell them they can keep. They will be grateful for the food.
