Classic easy reel mower that is planet-conscious and reliable. Mechanical push cylinder mower that cuts grass like a pair of scissors...
Old style push mower that is planet-conscious and a MUCH cheaper alternative to a gas lawnmower and comfortable to use.

Hey brother Mike, This brings back memories of when I was much younger! With the golf course type of mower the 7 blade or 11 blade reels work great for the shorter cut, such like I use to cut the greens at 3/16th or lower! The 4 or 5 blade reels work great for higher cut! In fact I found the 7 blade or 11 blade reels won't work for higher cut as well; especially when you have a taller lawn and try to cut it down! (Like going from 4 inches to 1 1/2)! Great video! Be blessed in Jesus! Kevin Barron

I never thought of it that way. I wondered why they still made 4 and 5 blade reels. I can see that being the case though. Less blades for higher cut and more blades for lower. 👍🏼 God bless.

I have the same mower. Mine came on highest of 3 axle height settings lowest cut was roughly 2” middle was 1.5” lowest with axle bolt in bottom hole is 1” lowest which lines up with the rear wheel adjuster markings (1-3”) +also turns out you don’t have to loosen the other (index) bolt…just remove the axle bolt…the 3 holes on the plates index on the shoulder of that bolt. So if you want 1-3” go ahead and move the axle bolts down when you get it. I’ve been impressed with it. I usually double cut with it. They make a striping kit for 18” electric ryobi mowers I’m thinking of adding.
@TheBitsonEffect
@TheBitsonEffect 2 года назад
Double cut in an opposite direction is a must with manual reel mowers. Per the request of a subscriber, tomorrow I will have a short video (5-minutes or less) to show how to modify this mower to get it down to cut at a half inch or less. Stay tuned!

I have a good sized yard with St. Augustine grass. I have two Scott's Classic 20" push reel mowers but I also have a gas powered push mower with mulching capability. In a perfect world, we'd all have a nice, flat, open, manicured lawn without huge oak trees that are constantly shedding and big ditches out front. I've learned first hand that push reel mowers are great for lawns like yours but not so much for yards like mine. I have no experience with 7 blade mowers and am curious if they jam up as easily on a twig as 5 blade mowers. I have watched a lot of videos on the new battery mowers but I don't plan on going electric any time soon. You do have a very nice looking lawn.
@TheBitsonEffect
@TheBitsonEffect Год назад
Thank you for the view and comment, jtx38. Unfortunately 7-blade reel mowers jam up on twigs, tree nuts, mulch, and etc just like the 5-blade. Even If you hit the same items with a powered 11-blade reel mower, they jam up or you damage the blade.

cool idea that you attached Big league lawn striping kit to your reel mower. is it making stripes though? i can't really see ..?? I bought the same striping kit and haven't used it yet since my grass is very short to use it on Ego.
@TheBitsonEffect
@TheBitsonEffect 2 года назад
It stripes when I cut the grass at 3/4" or above. Any lower and you can barely see the stripes. The shorter grass is, the harder it is too bend to reflect the sun. This video right here shows the Big League Lawns striping kit on my Ryobi 21". ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--UiRFMWPJEo.html

@@TheBitsonEffect Watched the vid! Thank you. Nice striping and nice open space backyard! Sooo you modified your ryobi to go below the lowest knotch? I ish I could do that with my Ego. Ego select cut XP's height adjustment part is completely covered 🙄
@TheBitsonEffect
@TheBitsonEffect 2 года назад
@@shion_lwn I also modified the blades to be lower by putting (2) thick washers on the shaft between the motor and blade bracket, I got another 1/4" lower.

I'd be very interested in understanding how to get my height of cut to 1/2".....Any ideas how to get there?
@TheBitsonEffect
@TheBitsonEffect 2 года назад
Absolutely! Depending on what height it is at right now, take it down about 1/2” every other week. If you normally cut at 3”, go 2-1/2” this week and next so you don’t stress the plant (grass) out too much. Once you get down to 1-1/2” or 1” you’ll have to go to a reel mower. Manuel push ones are available on Amazon for about $100-150. I know the Earthwise 16” 7-blade manual reel mower will go down to 1/2” because that is what I used last year and cut at 1/2”. Hope this helps. Get after it!

I gotcha now! Sorry about that. I will look at my Scott’s and my Earthwise tomorrow and get back to you. They are almost identical, but I don’t remember off the top of my head what I did to get my Earthwise down to 1/2”.
@TheBitsonEffect
@TheBitsonEffect 2 года назад
I got it! It took me longer than the weekend but with modifications I got it to go down to 1/4”. You need to remove the HOC wheels and use a different style roller. I’ll do a video on it.

Electric equipment is good for a homeowner but when you have a commercial landscaping company like myself it’s not feasible when you’re doing 120 lawns a day I would need 1 million batteries
@TheBitsonEffect
@TheBitsonEffect Год назад
120 lawns a day! That’s gotta be a huge multi-million dollar company. Dang! How many crews are you running, 4-6?

I wanted that Hudson star but for $2000 I would just buy a electric one or an Allett
@TheBitsonEffect
@TheBitsonEffect Год назад
Unfortunately when you add options (battery and charger are extra) to the Allett, it’s $6,000 or more. Same with the Swardman, once you add options it’s around $6k. I’ll stick with what I have or the Hudson Star.

And by the way if everybody changes the battery and lithium is the way to go because it last longer where we were going to put all these ones that are garbage that is worse than burnt fuel look it up my friend
@TheBitsonEffect
@TheBitsonEffect Год назад
I’ve never been a tree hugger in regards to using battery powered equipment. My #1 reason-I can’t stand 2-cycle oil and fuel. Noise reduction and ease of use are a plus, but not that big of a deal. For large properties, I use a commercial 60” Cub Cadet Pro Z 700 with the Kawasaki 31 HP engine. It’s a beast! There ain’t no trying to save the planet using it. I haven’t showed it on RU-vid yet, but I will soon.

I hate blowers. Because when they are ran for any long time when a rake or broom might be nice, they are just a bad neighbor noise for nothing, at least batt/elec; not 2 cycles which are often banned now/ for that same noise and pollution of course. A Backpack of batteries and a electricity is quieter. So is a vac which halves the pickup.
