OMG thank you, you saved me from returning my grease gun lol. I thought the gun was malfunctioning and it turns out my rod was fully in. Did not know the rod had to be out and as I squeeze the handle, it will push the rod in. Thank you kind sir for this simple, yet most effective video!!
After you press the little tab next to the plunger handle, you can push the plunger handle all the way in to get it out of your way. The spring inside will push the grease towards the business end of the gun without having to have that big plunger handle in your way
Saved me while restoring my grandfathers broken grease gun. Disassembled it completely and cleaned it with brake parts cleaner in all the valves and internals. Hasn’t worked in 5 years. He might be gone but not his grease gun. Works best it ever has!
Thanks for demonstrating thoroughly, the priming, loading, and at the fitting., i could not figure out how to undo the gun from the fitting. I forced it on, but did not know the end tip loosened, thanks again.👍
Just used a grease gun for the first time the other day. Did the job, but it was quite a pain. This video showed me what I was doing wrong lol. Thank you! Now I'll be a pro when I have to use it again!
I do recommend starting from the bottom remove the cover, then drop in the new grease tube, then open the top, you can wipe the grease back into the gun so you don’t waste what’s on the lid.
When loading a grease gun, it is not necessary to leave the plunger handle out after releasing the spring. Instead, you should push it in once the spring has been released
Hi Luke, good video, i did not know about the adjustable collet to secure around the zerk fitting so that was good information for me. I have a lucas grease gun and have watched videos about how to load grease including in the harbor freight models. Your video is the only one where the user did not plunge the follower rod through the grease after loading and you left it hanging out the bottom. I followed the instructions to push the follower rod through the grease on my lucas gun and it works fine.
I never knew that’s tip was able to locked like that. I’ve always tightened them down on the hose and just forced them onto fittings . I learned something
Yeah, i was wondering about that. Some push it in, others leave it out. The ones that leave it out, say it gradually goes in and gives an indication of the amount of grease still in the tube. .. so.. not sure...
I need to grease the tracks on my garage door. I had a grease gun but really didn't study anything how to use it, can't find a manual now if it had one. It was not pumping, the rod seemed all the way in, so I figure it was out of grease. However I found there is a lot of grease still in the gun by taking the head off. I'll just use a large screw driver to dip all this left over grease onto the tracks, that will do for this job. Good video.
First time needing to do. How do you know on your grease gun if not needing to push the pressure rod up? Your vid first one I've seen that lets the pressure do it as you use up grease which makes more sense as there is a ring on bottom that pushes the grease. Thanks.
Thank you for producing and posting this video. I have a 2007 Volkswagen Passat V6 I am in the process of upgrading suspension which need swaybar links. I am considering the Moog sway bar links which are manufactured with the special grease fitting. However after watching several Moog RU-vid videos I’m very disappointing that Moog Has not and did not do a video such as yours showing an actual hand greaser to that one could use to actually grease their serviceable parts. One question do you know if this type of grease gun and it’s fitting with securely connect and fit the more brand of swaybar links?
It should connect fine. Just make sure you unscrew the tip, connect the crease gun to the fitting and then tighten the tip of the grease gun back up while its connected. Its designed to lock it into place.
Good video. Answered the questions I had. (I had pushed the rod into the grease canister. Made a helluva mess!) One little point if I may...I would always use a wrench instead of pliers where possible. You almost lost me at that point.
I think I have the same gun as you (Harbor Freight?) and mine has a conical spring where the hose threads in to the top. I can not, for the life of me, get a single thread started. Am I missing something?
I have the same gun. My grease gun just randomly lost pressure while injecting grease to a new ball joint. I tried pulling the plunger and pushing it back in but it just loosely rattles up and down and there’s no way for me to get grease to come out. Do you by chance know any solution here?
When using this grease gun and I squeeze the handle will grease come out without it being attached to anything? Or does it only work when it’s connected to something? Mine is not working, and I follow the steps to the t
I'm have an issue we're I don't think the greese is going through the zirk fitting just oozing out the side of the coupler. I have it locked on to the zirk fitting. Help
When you tighten the collar of the grease gun does it stay on the zerk? If it pops off you dont have it all the way on or not locked onto the zerk properly.
You can do it either way. As you can see the way I did it works fine without any issues. You can also push the plunger in and it will work fine. Good luck!
Well that was hilariously unnerving. I have the same grease with the same grease gun with the same parts even have that blue mesh thing on the end of the tie rod end. Lol Thanks for the instructions!
@@MechanicLife yes sir it hooked correctly. I can squeeze and grease come out fine. But when I sung it on the valve the grease comes out the side and not go into the valve
The hell do i do about a hose that leaks right at the gun end? Ive tried o rings whichbit blew out like a skinny girl in a gang bang. Tried teflon tape and still joozes out the fitting right there..,, tried super tight, nope.. about to weld that fucker on the gun.. but afraid itll blow up cuz im not wasting a full tube o grizzle.. might have fun with it though and hand it to my little nephiew who has no clue but tries to fix stuff.. i’ll try to video tape him unscrew it to fix it and splooge out in his face.. ha!
Hypertough bs coupler dosent lock on.. no moving parts and the grease just come out around the fitting... WHY CAN NOBODY MAKE THESE WORK. 3 brands and each one I get just sucks. My full size drops off fittings and leaks and now my new one won't even lock onto a fitting.
