Great video, I've just bought the bush set for my katsu routers and just like yourself needed a little idea on how they fit. You've been really helpful thank you. I've had my routers (4 of them) for over a year and use them frequently for edging and mouldings and find them very good for the money.
Thanks for theses explanation. It helps me to decide buying the rings kit for my little katsu router. Now the screw are plate, it fits perfectly. And it’s secure (more than using the standard base with the rings). Thanks again.
Hi, thanks for this. I've got the Rutlands router set which is apparently made by Wuyi Xintai (model R0701) but it looks identical to your Katsu although there's nothing saying Katsu on it. I bought these bushes too, pretty confident that i could make it work from your video - and I can! Thanks, really helped!
Cheers Jed happy to of helped 😊. I've recently upgraded to the makita and all my katsu accessories fit it perfectly so if you ever need to upgrade I'd consider the Makita 😊
No worries Steve, I've since upgraded my katsu router to a makita and the same accessories fit from my katsu which is brilliant. So if you ever upgrade I'd go for the makita 😊
Nice explanation Karl. I will do a review of inlay kit in the next few days. They have a 'pin' to align the plate to the router base. IE, you loosen the screws and plunge the pin into the guide, then tighten the screws. That way it is perfectly aligned in the centre, which is a must for inlaying.
@karlpopewoodcraft Needs a nice big washer. I cant be certain but they may fit in the Makita sub base better? I dont own one yet but have seen people plunge through the retaining plastic tabs. The best fix may be an alternative custom made perspex/plexiglass base or 2? 1/4" or 1/2" thick? Good for flip top router table builds i just want a solid door blank to make a coffee table work bench tool chest hybrid with pivot up table legs locked in place then hide it under a suitable glass/plexiglass top & 18mm solid oak floor board top for doner material mitred corners with mitred turn down sides to hide the door edge with pencil rounds. Puzzles, board games, chess board or picture frames housed in? Its only a thought process but my bench joinery skills are begging to be utilized locked in doors. A transforming organized space saving wheel barrow coffee table chest is bursting from my bored brain. No garden no space all bench joinery tools blocking my corridor cupboards im going mucking futs. Will need vacuum, orbital sander, router all on 18V makita system if its inspiration you need ive got it in spades just check out my channel ive been researching for 5 years straight. RU-vid is slowing to a crawl on my PS4 lol. I just dont know where to start.
Hi, I've only just come across your video about the Katsu guide bushes, so I thought I'd give my experience, albeit a bit off on a tangent! I bought these to see if they'd fit my Dewalt 26204, they don't, but... I found a Leigh 710 adaptor for their guide bushes, specifically for my dewalt (it also fits a number of Trend routers too. Now, whilst this adaptor is aimed at the Leigh guide Bushes, I took a gamble that the Katsu bushes (a lot cheaper than Leigh) will fit in it too; well I'm pleased to say they do, furthermore, when you look at the Katsu bushes and compare them with numerous other companies 'own named brand' guide bushes, they 'look' pretty much identical. IMO, and this only my cynical view, I'm guessing they're all made to a set size standard and boxed differently for each 'own brand' company, somewhere in China! 😅
Mate , i luv ya ! I have one Katsu router since some years . I did bought same set bushes guide . I didn't figured why i cant use them :) Now i know : was plunge basa missing . Ordered the base noe
I have the exact same router but i got the 3 bases with mine. Not really done much router work but keen on learning. Would love to see how you made the height ruler. Thats a brilliant idea
Another cracking video on the tools you use to make those awesome products and you deserve so many more Subscribers and views to your Channel. Shared on my Twitter for you mate ATB GL & HH LittleJohn_MD 🇬🇧
@@karlpopewoodcraft not at all. I hadn’t thought of the safety risk of a loose fitting, so worth it for that. I’ve cancelled my return and gone in search of a file…
I had the same issue so I bought a set of machined bolts with a flush Allen head. I think they were M3 or 4 thread, the flush head clears the bushing plate. Katsu should include flush head screws/bolts with the router guide set.
Have you tried the Bush plate the opposite way round, I just noticed you were showing it with the cut out facein upwards,? I'm not saying it goes that way round as I'm unsure myself?
Hi, I have just received the same set and watched your video again. The base in the set has a lip on one side and when you face this to the outside then the screws sit perfectly below the router base plate. On you video it looks as tho you have plate reversed. I think this may be why you had problems. 🤔
Thank you so much for taking the time to do this - it has saved me hours of head scratching! Quick question - I’ve seen loads of people with square, transparent, bases for their palm trim routers but never seen them available to buy. Have you come across those at all for our wee machine?
Great video very informative thanks for taking the time to make it. Will this KATSU 10Pcs Brass Router Guide Bush Bushing Set 105436 work with a MAKITA RT0700CX4 trim router and the optional plunge base MAKITA 195563-0 PLUNGE ROUTER BASE. Cheers
Hi you need a universal slide plate for your router to fit the KATSU Guides I think I’ve just ordered a set and a universal slide plate for my Trend T7 router when they come I will try them and let you know Johnregards
As per the screws for the fitment of the adaptor plate for the plunge base, you are putting the adapter plate in back to front, turn it around and the screws will fit perfectly.
Hi. Really helpful video thanks. Just a question on the growth ruler u made I wondered what timber u used also what size do u make them. They look great and wanting to copy ur idea for my little 1. Thanks.
Hi David I mate them from pine boards, this is relatively cheap and can be stained or painted easily. I make these 6ft and I put the first ruler markings at the 6inch point so that when you fix to the wall you measure up from the floor 6inch the place the board there level with that, this should then clear the skirting board. Hope I have explained well enough 🙈😊
@@neiledwards4780 hi David no I just made one for a friends new arrival 👶🍼 however I would if people asked for one. 😊. I think there quite a lot of work for what you can make business wize but a lot of the craft stuff is like that isn't it so I just make things like this for fun really. 😊
The router should not be stiff when it goes in. There is a groove on the inside of the plunge base and a notch that sits in it when the router is positioned correctly. Not sure how you managed to get it in with it spinning around in the base like that, but it's obviously designed so as not to rotate in the base
ahhh you had same issue with the screws as me, yes you have to file down. I have had this machine for 1 year , it is actually very good. Only down side is the router bit in the plunge base is not dead centre to its base, that is a dam shame, did you find the same? Ps do you know if the trim base fits the aluminium insert plate for a router table...i cannot find the serial number of its trim base. The holes dont seem to match the holes on the trim base router from the info I have read,,really odd since there is only 1 type of trim base (i think) .I await your reply sir, thanks in advance :)
Hi Christopher I agree the katsu is great for the price, I have used it extensively for the past year now and it's been excellent. Unfortunately I have not looked into using it in a router table so I'm unsure about the issue you are encountering. I'm sure you could make your own insert plate if all else fails. 😊
Hi Karl Got my new KATSU bushes but to fit them to my Trend router and universal slide plate I had to do a lot of messing around with different pieces to make them fit done it in the end though but never the slide plate or the KATSU are very universal if you ask me so if what you’ve done is working for you I’d stick with it sorry boy thought I mite have been able to help you out if you do find a better way I’d be interested Regards John
Just watched ‘Irish chippy’ do the same as I could not work out how that back plate fitted (mind you it does not fit any of my routers anyway) because the 4 unthreaded holes don’t make sense and are not used. Irish chippy shows how to ensure the guides are EXACTLY centred. Thanks anyway 👍
Cheers mate ye I've watched Irish chippy do his, however the katsu is slightly different but same principles. The only issue I had in the end was the screws not being flush. Hope you can get sorted with your router. What routers do you have?
karlpopewoodcraft hi.....my bigger routers are nothing special I’m afraid although I do have the katsu (although not the plunge base) which I use quite often for smaller, lighter stuff. I’ve made several new base plates in the past out of acrylic and was about to do the same, this afternoon, to utilise that bushing set. It was then that I took a proper look at the set and could not fathom out the fixing of that main plate. I know I can make a plate to utilise the guides without the brass back plate but i don’t like the thought of not using it. I think what I’m going to do is to make a new acrylic plate with 4 threaded holes and then countersink and thread the holes in the brass plate to allow both to be securely fitted together........this means I can screw the new plate to the router and attach (solidly) and use the whole bushing set. Thanks for setting me on the path 👍
karlpopewoodcraft just watched another YT vid (trusty YT algorithms). The guy pointed out the now obvious to me in that the 4 holes are for dust extraction! .........obviously! 😂
Because I have to do this again and it is hard to get back from the office until the end of the day so I will not be able to make it to the interview until Tuesday.
...A bit late now but the issue with the screws is because the brass adapter plate is fitted the wrong way around. The plate has an internal flange or groove around the outer edge. This should be facing down and then the 2 screws sit into this groove flush or just below the level of the black router base. The guide bushes will then also be flush with the adapter plate as the inner hole on the plate also has a similar flange. There is a tiny bit of play in the adapter plate when fitted and this is eliminated by use of a centering pin (not included) BEFORE the final tightening of the 2 screws. The centering pin is a shaft with a cone shaped collar and is fitted like a router bit. The cone is pressed down with a finger or thumb and its shape automatically centers the adapter plate and the 2 screws are given a final tightening. All this is because the Katsu (or Makita) plunge base does not support Porter Cable guide bushes. projectguitarcache.s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/monthly_2016_08/IMG_8303.JPG.b976bdc751575cc2663de53d549e4929.JPG
@@karlpopewoodcraft If you hadn't described your issue I would have done exactly as you! Only by extensive online searches did I find someone else who had the solution. Shame no instructions or centering mandral included. You may find also by drilling 4 additional holes (8.5mm) in the brass plate it will improve dust suction as the 4 pre-drilled ones are insufficient.
