Fireflies are one my all time favorite things in the wild. Something about them is just amazing to me. I'm really happy we have a good population in our yard because we try to keep some habitat for them unlike other people around us

Fireflies suddenly came back to our backyard and I was wandering what to do to attract more and how to keep them from going away again. This was very helpfull. Thank you!

We have huge numbers of them at out house every year. We actually don't mow our entire lawn and use no chemicals. I find it amazing how many we have. I just learned t hey were on decline because we have so many.

Great Video! I'm new to Texas & seeing fireflies was on my "bucket list". I was able to mark that off my list Spring 2019'. Now when they come out again, I video chat with my city friends to show them all the fireflies in my yard. It feels like Christmas lights all around me with a little bit of 4th of July too. Love how they make me smile and feel like a kid again. 🤩

Thank you for this video. I am buying a house in Georgia. I want to make sure I have a great place for them here.

Wonderful overview! You are lucky. Here in Germany we only have three species, one of them being a "dark" one, where the adults rely on scent to find each other... "Don't be to tidy" is a good motto!

How wonderful to know this! Thank you! And yes, not too tidy! So fun to hear from you.

My next-door neighbors spray for mosquitoes. I've quit planting host plants, and leave one area of my garden to grow up in weeds, which I hope provides some habitat for lightning bugs, but I don't know. I always bring leaves from my front yard and pile them in my flower beds to decompose. I hope I'm doing the best I can for lightning bugs.

We should save these species for the next generation

Thanks for the information! The small, moderetely wooded neighborhood i live in suddenly had a sharp decreace of fireflies this year. I was thinking it was because of the extra rain, Brood X or the fact that they're building a neighborhood nearby. I didn't consider leaf pickup could be a cause.

Yay! I’m excited for a new CTG video, interesting topic too. I’m really missing the garden profiles. I hope you can get back to those soon. You can come to my yard ;-)

Leave the leaves for how long???
@abcdeisthekey
@abcdeisthekey Год назад
For as long as you can. I try to make sure there is always leaf litter under my oak trees and throughout my yard. However you can still mow over it sometimes to break up the leaves so it doesn't completely kill off your grass in that area. Or just designate specific areas to never pick it up ever
