My garden friends in HD - The Rook is a shy bird, but the right food will bring them from the skies.
Can you name the bird in the video I didn’t subtitle?

If you want to get close to rooks.. Kebabs ,gerbing, head bowing. Sounds daft but they love kebabs, friendly chats Inc gerbs and the head bow because they know it's you making the calls......the results are calls, fly bys, chats and rooks within a few feet...jays do similar once the know it's you, got to within 6/8 feet of a Jay and he carried on stick breaking... both beautiful and smart

what is "gerbing"?
@nirvanamadpaul
@nirvanamadpaul 3 года назад
@@BrennanYoung kinda like a cat purring but with out the "phu" sound. (hard to describe) It's part of the close social chatter between most corvids I've come across, I'd say check out ether "the raven diaries" (Crystal cove) pretty sure it has the ravens version (similar) Or look for rook/raven/jackdaw love/talking, chatting etc One think of note, literally lol. If you listen and try and copy they know what your up too... Curious and friendly. Like tweeting/calling while on a walk they recognise its you because of your call.... The gerbing purring is only a few tounge flicks 4/6 at a time with a "jack" - "charr" - "konk" with the konk raven only. The other two I use with jackdaws and rooks. Got a 5.30 talker wanting food... She wakes me even before my 5.45 alarm to sort kikoshi our long term jackdaw.. (he and two rooks chatting in rehab showed me the gerbing chatter.... The rooks allowed me to approach if I gerbed. (I'm a terrible explainer and even worse texter and speller, if you need anything clearing up just ask) (

Nice to see all these corvids. But I wouldn't feed birds bread because of the salt which is unhealthy for them. The bread can also stick in the throat.

I also thought that it isn't a rook, the beak is too dark.
@crowwhisperer
@crowwhisperer 3 года назад
@@Sancho_Retablez Are you talking about adult rooks? Because I can't see a color difference between the beaks of carrion crows and juvenile rooks and it's sometimes pretty difficult to tell them appart. The juvenile rooks still have the black nasal feathers in the first 8 month. After that time you can see the greyish base of the beak and some skin under the beak.

Hi Sofiiya - bread is not harmful for birds, its just an empty filler, a respite for parents who are feeding young. Check this link - www.rspb.org.uk/birds-and-wildlife/advice/how-you-can-help-birds/feeding-birds/safe-food-for-birds/household-scraps-for-birds/
