This is a great video. I have sewn professionally for many years, and mostly use French Seams. The purpose of the French Seam is to create a clean finish that reduces bulk and helps prevent fraying. Once the two fabrics are sewn with wring sides together, I press the seam to meld the threads. Then, I trim *one* of the seam allowances to within 1/8” of the stitching line, and then trim the other seam allowance to within 1/4” of the stitching line, to create a beveled seam allowance. Then when the item is turned with the right sides facing, a seam is made at 3/8” from the fold, which encloses the seam allowances. If there is a curve, the first seam can be clipped *after* the seam allowances are beveled. This is very helpful for beginners who may have challenges sewing over bulky layers. I also always use a clapper to flatten the beveled seams before re-folding for the final stitching. I also meld the final seam.
