Thanks for the tips how to grow calathea. So helpful as my calathea is not healthy as yours. Now just found out why it happens to my calathea. Thanks again for your sharing. 🙏🤝🌿💐
My sister over watered hers a bit. Over loved it. The roots were so soggy and it cured up like that. Half the root system didn't make it so wasn't able to absorb enough water because it had been compromised. Repot it into more free draining soil like perlite bark chips, as the previous soil was too dense and just kept it clung onto the roots suffocating it. And moisture was just sitting in the pot. Just not sure if it will make it...
Hi Mish Yes overwatering is a killer! I have my fair share of dead plants from it. Its definitely worth a try and see how it goes. Thanks for your tip and l hope your sister's plant lives. ❤
I hate this logic of plants: Every symptom could be anything honestly. Crisp leaves? Overwatering.. Underwatering.. Too much sunlight.. Too little humidity... Cool, that helps! HAHA
Hi Lutzifalilia Sometimes its good to correct one thing at a time and see what works, even that doesn't always work. Gosh , if only plants could talk back and tell us what they need growing plants would be alot easier Hehe. Thanks for your comment. Happy Calathea Gardening ❤
Well the thing is that first of all you need to get to know your plant. And yes, symptoms could be anything but if you research or you tube, there is a ton of info available to help you figure out just exactly what is going on. It's not rocket science...it needs certain things and all you need to do is figure out what it isn't getting. Problems can easily be solved. But if you are skeptical then maybe you shouldn't have the plant in the first place. These are living things that need some consideration when you own them (much like kids or pets). They have personalities and all they want is enough to grow and thrive. If you pay attention to it, you will have a plant that gives you pride and pleasure for years to come. Calatheas are especially satisfying but, again, they need attention. Maybe it's not the plant for you. This video is just as informative as others. Trial and error is a way of life...go for it or give it up. That's really the bottom line don't you think? Good luck! 😁
@patriciachafe2979 l love and agree with you! Get to know the plant and get to know own individual home conditions helps! Experience growing the plant and learning each day helps and enjoying the process of gardening! Happy Calathea Gardening ❤
thank you it help me with my calathea becouse im a plant lover and my calathea was looking very bad and i was so scared that i really mess up her but i think shes gonna be okay
How do I save my calathea I have put them in water as it didn’t make in new repotted soil.. how to save them it’s completely curled how many days it needs to revive
Hi, l would try to transfer it into Sphagnum moss rather then water. These days I found it worked better for me if soild repotting doesn't work. Also wrap the plant with a clear plastic bag and leave gap at top to increase the warmth and humidity may help as well. Keep me updated on how you go and thanks for your question. Happy Calathea Gardening ❤️
hiii you’re so helpful! found a calathea that was mislabeled at the market. i read it prefers humidity and medium light. i don’t have much sunny windows but i placed it in the kitchen since ot tends to get pretty hot. the leaves are curled and the underside are turning a bit ashy. i’m thinking it was too hot near the stove/oven due to limited counter space. i moved it near another partially sunny window, implementing more misting until i get a humidifier and otw to buy some perlite! wishing the revival of your plant 🌱 also new subbie :: do you have any videos of repotting ?
Hi Naynovaa I have repotting videos. I don't have a calathea repotting at this stage but have repotting of other types of plants.. Good idea with the humidifier. Thanks for the subbie appreciate your support. ❤👍
I have bought a calathea yesterday night and today its leaves are opened downwards. The stems are hard and good but the leaves seems to open in downward direction a bit much. Is it normal?
Hi Tasneem, Great question! Yes, it's normal. Calathea belong to a group of plants called prayer plants. They open their leaves during the day and drop down slightly to capture more sunlight. At night they fold their leaves upward. Congrats on your new Calathea plant and Happy Calathea Gardening ❤️
The comment on fettilizer was yhe first time I heard this. Makes sense why my plant wasnt doing so hot after a small synthetic liquid fertilizer. Are there any suggestions on what to do after over fertilizing?
Hi Gedukas, Great question and thanks for watching the content! At the next water you could try and flush the soil by using distilled water or tap water treated with API stress coat to remove heavy metals and chemicals in the water. Get rid of the excess water. Happy Calathea Gardening ❤️
@@oksanadzhavala1424 Thanks for sharing your gardening situation. I suggest you flush the soil with distilled water to remove the excess fertiliser. Happy Calathea Gardening ❤️
@@PlantNationMinh I did flush it but with tap water, didn’t have distilled one. Today I took it out of the pot, shake all soil off and put it in filtered water temporarily. I discovered many new shoots starting under the soil. Planning to put it in new soil and start new with this baby. I feel so bad! It was such a hearty plant (and still is with all these new shoots!!). Wish me success! Do you have any soil recipe that this baby would like? Thank you!
@oksanadzhavala1424 That's wonderful news new shoots are growing. Calathea grow from the Rhizomes which are underneath in the soil. Maybe your plant just was going dormant bc of cold weather? I like a well draining soil mixture equal parts potting mix, perlite/pumice, Orchid bark and Horticultural Charcoal. Happy Calathea Gardening ❤️
Hi Jeannette These days l use a potting mix that consist of 50% premium potting mix, 30% Orchid mix and 20% perlite ( lm an overwaterer) . Can replace the perlite with pumice or Vermiculite ( if your an overwaterer). Hope that helps you. ❤
Yes, it doesn't like too much fertilizer, like very rare fertilizer. and I think they need a sun some, not in the room all the time. Like to keep under a big tree is ok. New friend & like to share with you
Hi Cathy, Oh didn't l , opps l thought l did. Wilting could be the Calathea naturally the leaves folding down during the daytime and should fold up at night. If the Calathea isn't then it's generally dued to soil being too dry or too harsh sunlight on the leaves. Happy Calathea Gardening ❤️
Thank you so much for watching the video and commenting. Calathea are fussy plants! I have had my fair share of unhappy Calathea. Hope the tips help. ❤
Can i still revive mine even if the leaves curled up, stems fell and roots are black? Just got mine and placed it under direct sunlight. I'm using coco fiber as soil as well.
I have 6 children that I have raised and are still raising Potty trained them, took care of them and always guided them in the right direction as best I could….why why why can’t I take care of a plant. Every plant I have it dies on me 🥲🥲🥲
I take off my hat to you! Wow raising 6 children is impressive!! Aww it's sad when a plant dies, always plenty of more plant varieties to try out. Hope you find the ultimate unkillable plant. ❤
