any chance you can do a video on bikepacking with fat bikes? you should review more fat bikes eg Surly Ice Cream Truck. If you want to represent bikepacking you should be more representative of the diversity of its forms (and yes I have seen the ghost grappler and it is an amazing ride but think it needs stronger brakes)

I've been sewing frame bags for 7 years. And what I have found is if I sew a four-way stretch short bias to the zipper before attaching it to the main body fabric of the frame bag it accounts for the longevity of the molded tooth zipper. It gives the molded zipper much more play as the bag is stuffed with things. In this way it does not over stress the molded zipper. And I have never had any of these problems of zipper failure on any of the frame bags I have designed.

very good! I also use a small rock climbing brush when I need something stronger than a toothbrush.

I have used candlewax for zippers on the top on my Wrangler. My Jeep is a 2002, kept in my garage, and the original to worked up until last year, when it finally failed and I had to replace it. The zippers worked, but the clear sides and back had yellowed over the last 19 years, to the point of unacceptability. Happy to say the zippers still worked, but they were getting a bit stiff. I didn't know there was such a thing as a solid zipper-specific lube. Thanks for the tip!

I’ve had good luck resurrecting failed coil zippers by using a needle nose pliers to compress the wings of the zipper pull, so it more effectively engages the zipper itself. Then, wax up the zipper itself and you’re rollin’.

I've used squirt chain wax in the past, but I'm liking the thought of chap stick. It seems like the lip balm would have more staying power.

If you don't have a local bag maker you can get zippers fixed/replaced at any shoe repair shop.

Love the chapstick idea. I have the same salsa bag and even though it looks clean it’s days of easily opening are long gone. That is until this tip!!! Thanks so much because I was honestly considering replacing the bag because nothing else worked.

Always look for Japanese YKK zippers on all your products. Easily the best quality and most durable, and brands rely on them for lifetime warranties.

Pencil lead or graphite powder work really well for a friction free zipper! And because they are dry they don't attract dirt.

Great video. I have used chain lub on my zippers and never really had a problem with dust collection. But The smell Isn’t the best unless you use mucoff

I’ve used #10 tooth zippers on all of my bags I’ve made for the last 15 years. I’ve only ever had 1 that needed replacing from actually wearing out.

I've always had great results with Wahl clipper oil. 2-3 drops on a finger (wearing a glove so that the skin don't absorb mineral oils) and spread on the whole zipper. It helps a lot with a slow zipper and it doesn't attract any dirt. Is maybe the Wahl clipper oil cleaner than, say, chain lube?

When I find a good backpack with a dead main zipper in a dumpster I just take out my pliers, pinch the 2 wings of the zipper down just a tad. Then its good for another 2 years!

Rub some candles on the teeth of the zipper so it wil glide smoothly,i do to some of my backpaking bags and repels some dirt and water . 😉

I have an REI tent with sticky zippers that hate me. So frustrating; I’ve tried beeswax and zipper-specific lube, to no avail. Call me a waaaambulance. ✌️
