RIP Coach Frank! I remember you telling all of this stuff to me, and making me do drill after drill until I sat right, and snapped down. Nothing you ever taught me will ever leave my head. You were an amazing coach and an amazing person. We all miss and love you. I hope you are in a better place now and are finally happy. RIP
I'm a cheerleader and I've been working on my back handspring for a few years and I've always been too afraid to throw it by myself, but this video helped me so much!! Thank you sooo much!!
this is absolutely AMAZING. i already have my back handspring but i was looking for tips of how to improve it; get my legs straight and stuff. You seem like an awesome coach i wish i was coached by you lol. thanks for putting so much effort into the video
Coach Frank, I just recently started gymnastics and you are the best coach I've come across by far. You make incredible videos that really help me. I may come up to Connecticut just to train with you. You should seriously consider writing a book. Keep up the great work!
I SEE NOW HOW IMPORTANT SELF CONFIDENCE IS, AND "ORDERING" YOUR MIND BEFORE THROWING THE BHS...READING THIS ARTICLE AND MEDITATING ON IT, NOW I CAN DO A NICE BHS ON TRAMPOLINE, FEELING COMFORTABLE.NEXT STEP, THE WEGDE...
I am working and watching videos on how to do back handsprings. I am a male cheerleader at my high school but i haven't completely nailed it 100% yet and this video helped a lot now im able to do 4 Thanks Coach Frank(:
This helped a lot!:) I know he said don't do it at home but I don't have a gym near me so I started on a large bed and on the grass and the 3rd time doing it, I got it!:D I have seen other tutorial videos and nothing come close to how helpful this one is! I'm looking forward to watching more of your videos.c:
I had the same problem as u. Once the summer started and gymnastics ended my coach wasn't there to spot my back-handspring. So I took the coushins off the sofa and practiced on their. The first time I did it, I landed on my head, but it didn't hurt. Then a couple tries later I could do it really well. Then I just kept on using harder and harder surfaces until I could do it on the ground.
My daughter is struggling shes ten years old and cant put her fears a side. Also when shes at gymnastics she seems to go quite high when she is aided and the coach is saying shes going to high.I found this video very useful. Thank you Frank.
Im going back to gymnastics today I havent been in a gym in two year after a back injury, this is so encourageing and amazing! level 8 back to level 4 :) whoo!
Thank you sooo much i had a huge mental block to throw my handspring by myself and i would get sooo worked up about not being able to do it by myself that i would scare myself even more!! last practice i tried the Nicki technique and it worked!! my handspring looked terrible haha but i threw it by myself. THANK YOU SOO MUCH!!!
I watched this video like a gazillion times, i have problems with my mental thinking so thats why, i get sad so easily and this video is controlling my brain and getting me the courage to do a back handspring.
hi, im a cheerleader and i am doing this for my first time in a competition tomorrow i was so nervous but ive done it before and hurt myself so im scared to do it without a spot, this video has helped thakyou xx
Hi CoachFrank203, great training tips for gymnasts but also helpful with the technical side and emotional preparation. Waiting for more uploads on drills and skills. Spotting round off flic video would be good, or an tutorials linking tumbles.
by the way I forgot to say that the tutorial is really great and well detailed good job you should make more! and it's from before the tumbling... and I don't have a video... so if you could name a few exercises that would be great!
For those who say they have no confidence then just pretend they are spotting you or if you don't have the confidence then maybe your not ready because you don't trust yourself to do it caus your afraid you will get hurt well if you knew you won't get hurt then u could do it no problem. For those whose say they can land it you need to dip more if u dip more in the beginning then you et energy to snap down and land it.
I have this same issue. I've been doing drills on the trampoline falling onto my back rolling over onto my feet but I'm working hard trying to keep from turning my head. It's aggravating. Any backwards technique I try to turn my head and body like a cat and throw myself out of form. I'm going to keep at it though but I'm hoping your video helps. It's awesome getting a different perspective. Thanks.
You are really cool and good..I did my first backhandspring in the gym by myself but when i came home, I just couldn't do it. So, do you think its fear or have i just lost my backhandspring???? PLEASE HELP???!!
Is it possible to do one from a back walkover ? I did gymnastics for 4 years and really want to a back handspring, I can do walkovers and basic stuff, can I learn at home ?
@Jennifer Pontius How bad is landing on your neck? i always thought it would break or badly damage ur spine since theres that part of your spine that goes up through that part
@CoachFrank203 If you do a tuck one, could you include how you should spot a tuck? Coach's qualifications are all well and good, but they're not the most 'hands on' courses in the world and they don't really have on-going support for coaches once we're qualified.
So ive been working on my back handspring for 2 years. Its like a back and forth thing; I get it by myself and then 2 days later im afraid to do it. I can do it perfectly when my coach spots me but then when she leaves I cant do it. Its like i have a fear of going back. Im afraid i will forget to jump and land on head or neck weird. Its so frustrating because i know i can do it but i just cant. How can I get over this? And finally be able to do my back handspring bymyself every time.
could you tell me your opinion about this...does doing a "headspring" first(on trampoline, for instance) really help to turn it into a handspring?thanks!
So I've had my bhs for a while and it looks great on mats, but when I go to tumble on grass, it doesn't look so pretty and my snap down is right where my hands are! How can I fix my snap down?
Hi, um i have trouble landing my backhand spring because i land with my hands on the ground and i cant seem to get up. any tips please and thank you (:
ok so my standing back handspring on the tramp is nice and long and then when i go to do my round off back handspring on tumble track/floor it is short and high ! and i can't seem to get it long . do you have any tips for that ???
I think i have everything down its just everytime i hit the ground my arms bend because im not strong enough and im very tall so its hard to hold myself up. what can i do to work on it. loft weights?
This is very long, but very eduacational, thanks. EVen though i'm only 10, i understood and aced it at my gymnastics competition thanks. :)))) ---Gymmy:)
hi, my shoulders are too wide and i have problems to close them on the backhand... what can you tell me that i can do to correct that? i try to close them but they are aways open ! (srry for my english)
ok I have weak wrists... I had a real problem for half a year and now I've recovered but I'm not sure if my wrists are strong enough to perform the backhanspring... do you have an exercise to check it, or maybe to strengthen them?
I'm a cheerleader and I've never had formal training for my bhs. It takes me 30 minutes to even get the courage to throw it alone. when I finally do its terrible. I always turn sidways. The only part that resembles a bhs is the start. Any tips on making it straight and minimizing fear?
Am i too fat to do a backhandspring? i'm a shotputter and i used to be a cheerleader...i had my backhandspring on the tumble track but was too scared for floor...this was almost 3 years ago... I'm fairly strong though.
I have what it takes, and i've trained the backhandspring like forever the only problem is that i get too scared of performing it, even with my coach ther i dont know what else to do , every time i,m gonna do it i get blocked and i'ts so frustraiting
@CoachFrank203 PLEASE REPLY!!!!!! i have my backhandspring, but when ever i do it, my arms collapse and i almost land on my head!!!! I've watched this video almost 20 times but i can't do it! i have a video on my channel id really appreciate if u watched it and gave me advice!! thx
