How to Backup & Restore in #rekordbox | DJ Tech Tutorials
NOTES: I am not covering Cloud Library or Mobile Library Sync. Time Machine will NOT restore your library - you'll need to do this.

Hi thanks for the tutorial. I have already backed up few years ago, but forgot so that's what brought me here. Wasn't there something with saving in XML as well? I vaguely recall one extra step there, correct me if I'm wrong?

Hi mate! Quick question. When I restore the library on the new device , will the playlist be the same from my old device? Someone told me that rekordbox will create artist playlist and not the ones I had from previous device. Thanking you kindly.

I was hoping there was a feature like collect all and save in Ableton that allows you to make sure every track file is present in a single folder so the rest of your hard drive can be tidied up (i intended to put everything in the right folder before importing but fail more or less immediately haha). You could create a back up but this would mean waiting for the entire library to duplicate every time. Anyone know if this is possible?

What about iTunes music downloaded and used in rekordbox. I both use a library system for music downloaded but also use Apple Music which I buy and download. I’m currently about to transfer my rekordbox 6 collection to a new m1 Mac. I’m trying to figure the best way to do it all in one go. Can you advise me on itunes backup or what has to be done to make sure iTunes moves across seemlessy?

How do you handle the scenario where Rekordbox says your tracks are stored on another device (e.g. greyed out). I got a new laptop a year ago and backed up the whole library to an external hard drive, including the files. When I loaded it onto my new laptop all those tracks are showing as greyed out even though the files are loaded on my new laptop. I can't export any of these tracks to USB

Can you please help with what to do when rekorbox library gets corrupted? I know a master backup saves every time you quit rb so I can’t open/ close it anymore but am lost about what to do next, using windows Ty

Great video, thank you so much for the info. I just have one question. What happens if I backup the library and don’t select to back up music files? All my music is stored on the same hard drive I will keep the backup file on, so I don’t need to backup all the music again.

That's correct. As long as the the music is stored in the same location that's fine. If you somehow moved it you'll have to auto relocate

Ive managed to back up to usb, loaded into my new pc but when i click on a file it says file is missing i click locate and nothing? Please help

Can you delete the backup folder and zip file after the restore process?

you sure can. It's simply a backup file & rekordbox doesn't draw its info from that.

I keep getting the 'Failed to back up collection' message.Been trying to fix this for weeks now . Can't find any missing waveforms etc.. Searched everywhere looking for solution but no luck. Does anyone know how i can fix this please ? :(

If you have the playlists already in your library, reformat & export again.

but does this mean that from hereon, data will be stored in the external driver? or does recordbox in this process move those files to the new pc/mac? because if it stores it on the external drive, it cannot be copied to the new pc/mac because tracks would get corrupted..

follow up, is it possible to use sync manager, to do this, and after the 1 month stop using it, or does it need an ongoing subscription for it? thx

No. the backup & restore function is for 'backing up' your library especially when transferring from computer to computer. Sync Manager is for exporting to USB to play on CDJ/XDJs. If you have a specific request, pls log in a support ticket via rekordbox.com

Careful everyone. I just backed up my library twice, and after restore, I am missing over 4500 files; auto relocate will not work, and it appears i have to do it manually.

All I can think of is to disable cloud library sync (if you have it) off the old device before you restore on a new device. Otherwise, submit a support ticket thru rekordbox.com & provide as much detail as you can.
