In today’s video, we are going to show you how to balance a fully rigged out BMPCC4K or BMPCC6K camera on the DJI RS2 using the counterweights from SmallRig. We will show you all the tips and tricks on how to balance the RS2 gimbal while using the unusually shaped BMPCC4K and BMPCC6K with Tilta full cage and NPF external battery. I emailed DJI about a longer rod so I can use all of my lenses. They said they dont have one and they will not be making one. I then spent a few days calling around looking for a 12 mm rod. No one believed me that DJI is that stupid. :) In the end I used a carbon fibre fish rod. Yup. You read it right. I cut it into pieces and it worked. Though it looks terrible, it works. Thanks DJI, you are soo good....

have you tried mounting the focus motor to the other side? It might help to counter balance the ssd you have on the other side. You can also get rid of the handle and then mount the battery the the base of the gimbal to reduce weight on the motors.

Really Great Video , do not you think if you mount the NP-f plate on the top right of the cage (on the opposite site of the SSD placement) will eliminate the need of the counter weight? I'm looking for the most possible lighter weight using the cage with my new-coming RS2

Really helpful. Would it be more convenient to attach the focus motor to the RS2 502 Manfrotto plate? Would that onset balance too much? Thanks.

That’s a great question! I don’t think you can mount the focus motor on the Manfrotto plate directly, at least not with the cage, but if you can figure it out, that will be great! It shouldn’t be too hard to balance that because the RS2 comes with a Manfrotto plate as the base plate. Thank you so much for your kind words and support on the video!

I think you have to tighten those screws for each axis more once you find the balance on each axis. looks like you just turn it once to tighten it. that could come loose from testing it out in the field

That's a great question! You can connect the RS2 to the BMPCC6K or 4K via the USBC to USBC cable that comes with the RS2. Then you will have different camera controls via the RS2. You have to go into the RS2 Firmware and downgrade to the .0000002 firmware version which is a hotfix for BMPCC cameras so that they can be controlled via the RS2

i can mount my bmpcc4k smallrig cage with an oly 12-40 on a crane 2 with focus motor, i dont need any counterweight, that top handle + sony battery looks totally unnecessary

@@KtmDesignz Tllta cage here, along with Sigma 18-35mm. It def needs a counterweight on my end. Now, with a MFT lens I may not, but that lens on a Canon cam works fine on the gimbal. Just not my particular combination.

Hi, thanks so much for this tutorial because I’m waiting for my Tilta to arrive! Quick question on the weight for the whole setup because I have the RSC 2 and just want to know if I can actually handle the same set up on it. The spec said that RSC 2 can handle 3.5kg, so, just wonder the weight for your set up. Thanks so much.

You are very welcome! That’s a great question! We don’t have a RSC2, but you might want to make the setup lighter since the RSC2 is made for smaller setups. Putting too much weight on the motors is not good for the battery and durability of the gimbal. Hope it helps! Thank you so much for your support!

Have you tried balancing with sigma 18-35 Len? I tried the same method but seems to have problem with the pan axis. Maybe because the len is too long?

Which focus motor is it? DJI or Tilta? And would both of them work with the gimbal? Thanks and great video

That’s a great question! It is the DJI focus motor that came with the gimbal. If you want to use a Tilta focus motor, you will need to use the remote from Tilta, not the DJI control dial, to control the Tilta focus motor. Hope it helps! Thank you so much for your kind words and support!

When putting the bmpcc 4k onto the rs2, do you put it all the way in or do you leave part of the baseplate thing hanging? Cuz whenever I try to put all the way, the camera would be hitting the motor/side of rs2.

That’s a great question! We managed to have the base plate installed all the way into the gimbal because we mounted the base plate at the corner of the cage. We showed which quarter inch hole to mount the base plate in the video. Hope it helps! Thank you so much for your support on the video!

Btw, This counterweights are not for RS2… So they’ll not fit smoothly and you can damage the RS2 arm.

@@henrymediagroup Hey, so I got mine and I was able to balance it with just the cage. However, the handle is super annoying so I had to remove it which was much easier than having to remove the whole cage. You’re right though about the rod. I had to move the focus strap all the way down for my Sigma 18-35

@@henrymediagroup Update: To deal with the small rod you can mount the focus bar to the manfrotto plate instead of the cage. This makes the rod plenty long and you can use both screws for security.

13:43 you have so much space left on the roll axis to balance it out before counter weight, why don't you use it? Also, if you google for image with dji rs2 bmpcc 6k you can see how you can attach your battery plate to the gimbal's briefcase handle. You will notice the difference on a good way.

meh, take that handle off and use a smaller npf battery and you are balanced. I get that you want to be able to take the pocket on/off with handle..... sometimes we dont get what we want. lol

I don't think that it's really a good idea to put all that additional weight onto top handle area, and then have to balance everything with counterbalance that just adds a unnecessary weight that you will have to hold for a rest of your shooting. You've could easily come with some better battery placement without a handle and compensate for any balancing issues just with battery.

smallrig cage and focus bar doesn't connect so well, to much movement to use the focus pull. if i try to connect it the nut decent i damage the treat. smallrig to expensive and not strong al all. And Dji not so pro? longer nuts and lens support with to small support step is not usable for samyang cine. Close but no cigar boys. its not a simple A to B connection. You have to buy stuff extra to make this work.
