I would love if you made this a series this was super helpful. And honestly I think that sometimes we know we love an outfit but are not sure why it works so some breakdowns would be so great! I have a super long torso and I have learned the hard way that often clothes are made short as I am long everywhere and I have to find the correct length so I don't drown in things but they are still flattering. Its about learning to work with what you were given.
Thanks so much for the feedback! And absolutely - sometimes it can be just identifying one small element which is the reason why an outfit hasn't felt like things have fallen into place :)
This is the type of content I love, what I call styling analysis. I am so much shorter and more top-heavier than you, though. I love the chunky or oversized sweaters, but have just found them too bulky and overwhelming for my size.
I have a couple of friends like that, and I can totally understand the challenge - when I was breastfeeding, I went up a cup size or two and it was an adjustment. All the items which I'd understood to look nice on me pre-pregnancy, no longer looked quite the way I wanted. Style is such a personal thing isn't it!
Great video! Definitely into seeing different styling of your existing closet (versus just showing new pieces). It’s not even about one styling necessarily being better than another, as you say re: voluminous vs balanced proportions - just different ideas and considerations...
Absolutely - and how you might choose to express your style on any particular day too. Definitely a broader conversation about also choosing to shun traditional ideas on what is flattering as well :)
Truly great video. Love the side by side and that you explain the reasoning so we’ll. So much of my dressing is instinctive, I really appreciate hearing why something works or doesn’t.
I love these kinds of videos Jamie. Thank you! Were you trying to speak slower? You did a great job but I love listening to you at any speed. 🥰 Love the dress and the all black outfits the most! Big hugs from Canada!💖😊
Thanks so much Natalya :) I think so - I try and make an effort to slow my cadence but my default is to talk quite fast so it doesn't come naturally haha! Hope you're having a fantastic week x
For the second look, the baggy jeans would have looked good with the chunky sandals. I really like your perception of balance. It's very similar to mine.
Great video, great tips, hope you continue with this! I love that Zimmerman skirt - you are so slim but I see you got size 3. Is the eais elasticated or there is a hidden zip somewhere? Is it too much to ask for waist measurements? That would mean a lot! Thank you 🍀
Thank you! So I actually looked at the skirt when I was pregnant, and estimated that I would be my usual size 0 in Zimmerman. But I spotted it in the outlet months later when I was no longer pregnant, only in size 3. Was surprised to find that it did fit. But, if you can, I’d recommend usual size or going 1 up. My waist is about 66cm though and I have no issues with this slipping if there are limited options available xx
Really like your advise but as a midsize person it’s sometimes very hard to play with volume without it looking like you try to hide yourself. I for example never add volume to my bottom half only ever to the top.
Of course I don’t know your exact body. But I think doing something high waisted and tight at the ankle with some nice volume in between can be a great look! To me it says celebrating shape rather than hiding it
There's definitely a lot of elements that come together when you're styling an outfit, and comfort in the proportions is also key. I think that there can be ways to play with them regardless of size, like wearing a high waisted pant that is more of a straight leg, with a jacket or shirt which drops below the hip. Ultimately though, wearing that kind of silhouette requires feeling comfortable not having "shape" in a traditional sense. For me, it wasn't something I found myself gravitating towards until just recently. Funny how our style evolves over time!
I do think I addressed this in the video, but what I was saying was the "feeling" that something is wrong of "off". I do say that I didn't think there was actually anything wrong with these outfits at all, it was more about achieving balance in a way that I personally felt comfortable and illustrating that these small details might be what make an outfit feel "off" when you're putting together what you're going to wear for the day. Hope that makes sense!
Thanks! I think the main thing I’ve taken from this year is dressing isn’t just about what is flattering, but also what you love or just feel good in. And from there, it’s all about figuring out balance in proportions to get the styling right (for you!)
