I would say the one problem I am facing when it comes to uploading to RU-vid is fitting the playlist, suggested videos, and channel into the end screen. I use capcut to edit and I usually just import a "thanks for watching" end screen to my videos and then try to fit them into it. But every time I do its mostly the channel icon that struggled to fit and then when it finally does fit I have trouble making the videos fit in the box.
How would you tackle uploading with an off grid channel where life and projects are happening all the time? It is a bit overwhelming specially because we are only starting.
Maybe an updated video about all the settings etc when uploading... Refer each time to a flowchart with how to get to each page and do this... OR timestamps... Remember to use the yellow dot as I'm watching on mobile. Cuddles to Popcorn from Bella 🐈 ps Popcorn should occasionally appear in the videos 😻
Definitely went from had all the time in the world to work on YT to full time job and the that struggle you are talking about! It's been a struggle working on a schedule that works but I am getting better! Thanks for the tips Nick!
ALL OF THIS! I started doing all this stuff last year and it has helped a lot! Sometimes life gets caught up with me but when I'm consistent with all this, I usually have a week or two of content backlogged that lets me take a break if needed. Awesome Info Nick!
Thanks for the routine! I customized it, if anyone is interested: Monday 1: Find ideas, plan t&t, research for videos 1 & 2 Tuesday 1: Overflow Wednesday 1: Outline/script videos 1 & 2 Thursday 1: Record videos 1 & 2 Friday 1: Edit video 1 Saturday 1: Overflow, publish video 1 Sunday 1: Edit video 2 Monday 2: Overflow, schedule video 2 Tuesday 2: Find ideas, plan t&t, research for video 3 Wednesday 2: Outline/script videos 3 Thursday 2: Record video 3 Friday 2: Edit video 3 Saturday 2: Overflow, schedule video 3 Sunday 2: Overflow
I'm not sure if I have the words for how much I've begged for this. I don't even know all the places I've posted this asking for help! I'm so so grateful that Nick has posted this because I think for the first time in 4yrs I understand what I wasn't able to. So grateful 🙏
Before we used to record our video podcast. But we didn't have enough time to edit it as we have our own service-based businesses to run. We decided to just do go live and have that fixed schedule every week. We've been doing these for 3 years now because it's working for us. The challenge though is after going live, we only have minimal time to do the rest. But at least when it comes to consistency, we have that. Maybe soon we will add more to our team to help with the other things we need to do inside the channel. Thanks, Nick for the reminder! 😊
Thanks for sharing this RU-vid schedule! It seems manageable and well-structured. I appreciate the emphasis on consistency, that's key for growing a channel. I'll definitely give it a try and see how it positively impacts my content creation routine!
First I want to say thanks Nick, your videos have helped me a lot. I was having the issue of not having enough time to get a weekly video out and work a full time job. I'm lucky in that I can work on the graphics and such at work however one thing I was using was a green screen background. Yes, it helped the video look nice, but man did it take a lot of time. There were times I was hard pressed to just get one video done in a week, let alone work on others. However, I decided to forego the green screen and just pick a wall in the place to be the background, and I have to say, It has been a savior. Thanks to giving it up, I have been able to work on multiple videos at one as suggested in this video. I already have my next video ready to go on upload day, I filmed the next video last night, and am already working on the script for the following video. It's really nice not feeling so stressed and still being able to do RU-vid videos, which I have been enjoying doing. My other main issue now is figuring out how to get people to watch/comment on my videos, which I have been watching some of your other videos to try and work on it.
I've been trying to do all my videos for a whole month at stretch and it hasn't seemed to be working, but this method that you talked about is a whole lot better, thank you so much
I don't normally comment on your videos however I resonate with so much of what you said in this specific video - I consume a TON of youtube help content from Dusty Porters Creators hub podcast to Roberto Blake and Tim Schmoyer Ect - Even though everyone I watch gives sound advice - YOUR advice has been the most practical to use in an actual situation in my circumstance so I just wanted to tell you thank you.
Thanks for this video. I wrote in during the livestream the other week about "Quality vs Quantity." Right now I'm making videos that are honestly taking me too much time, and I think I'm going to end up burnt out like you did. I think I got caught up in the idea of retention editing because I saw that my retention went down when I didn't have as many bells and whistles. If any part of the video didn't switch up after 5 seconds, I would see a dip, and I interpreted that as doing something wrong. But I can't create sustainably this way when it's just me and I've only been editing for 1 year. It was helpful to hear that creating a better story is another way to get around the extraneous editing. Will really give that some thought. Thanks again!
This is great, Nick. Very good framework. There's no right or wrong way, but the most important thing is that you can comfortably fit it into your lifestyle. The biggest difference between how I divide my content time comes down to where the editing fits in. I can't edit a video start to finish in 1 day; I just don't have the patience, so I stretch that over 3-4 days and do other tasks on those days as well. I'd be happy to share how I balance my time between full time work in a highly demand industry/role, family life, hobbies, and content creation between VODs, shorts, and lives with anyone who's interested! (Nick - I'm pretty sure I can tell you edited this one.)
We're constantly struggling to carve time out for content creation. My full-time job used to be very fulfilling until I started making videos on RU-vid, but it pales in comparison now. YT provides an awesome creative outlet (and earning potential), and I want to grow in every way! Our channel is structured so our vidoes need to include myself and my husband, but with opposite work schedules, is very difficult. Must sacrifice. Where there's a will, there's a way, so to speak. 😍You ALWAYS provide such great encouragement and ideas to succeed. Thank you for that, Nick! I'm a dedicated fan.
Writing down ideas for videos. That is actually helping me kick start again after a break. I have worked on several videos at 1 time when I have clips but a project isn't completed. Found out real quick storage space is a must! I have figured out, I need to film more to have the content to edit. Nothing like sitting down editing and think, I should've done...
I used to watch your videos years ago and life happened and I finally found your channel again it also made me remember alot of memories, i really love and appreciate your videos
Oh woww, actually I have been working on different thumbnails for a few videos at once and didn't realise I was saving time! Now I do! I will do it for descriptions, and others like you said Nick! Love the tips! Thank you so much for always trying your best to help us do better !
Just started my channel here 👋! Having a demanding full time job as a healthcare worker means lesser time for me to manage my channel. So I have to make content on the weekends and at least do the editing on the weekdays after work. It’s hard but it’s a challenge too. So good luck to all of us here! Stay motivated guys!
Glad you made this video! Been working on getting this very thing more as I try to put more content out. Doing the thumbnails, description and SEO stuff first has been huge in helping my process and my results recently ! Thanks for all you do nick!
@NickNimmin ... I appreciate the fistbump... I have been watching your videos for a while, and they're keeping me motivated to reach my goals to entertain people.
Thanks for this Nick I work a full time job and make RU-vid content and it’s hard to balance out both. I also try to put in an hour a day towards my goals for the channel.
Great video and great ideas for scheduling. I also feel that it's flexible enough for family life to intrude without knocking you off your stride. Well done. You've got yourself a new subscriber!
This was so interesting, as a angler who plans the trip before going, weather permitting, working full time, and running two photo groups, its a little tricky, but I love making my fishing videos, this was food for thought, brilliant job, massive thanks for this.
Another solid video. Love the reminder of a template file. I am on a mission to organize my digital space, as can see it's getting mega cluttered! Thank you!
Thank you for this! I have been thinking about this as I want to upload weekly, but sometimes not able to do it on time and end up rushing in the end. I’ll try to have a buffer of an extra week so that I can slowly record and edit on time without the pressure of doing it weekly!
Great info! I think what I learned is I need to simplify things. It would be great if you had a printout to download with this schedule structure on it, or maybe for future videos with a lot of info like this one.
Thank you so much Nick for these great and very helpful contents of yours. I recently started my channel and I'm currently into this situation where I'm having a hard time finding balance to everything. Before I even started my career in the corporate world, I've been dreaming of this content creator thing but can't a find a way to get started until I finally decided to give it a try. This video and your other videos that I keep watching everyday somehow pushes me to try. I'm still a neophyte in this kind of thing but hopefully someday I can grow my channel, too.
The best thing you can do is start making content. Watching videos won’t help as much as practicing the art of making videos, publishing them and then learning from the responses you get.
Thanks Nick, those are great tips to stay consistent with the content. I am actual doing exactly as you described my content creation schedule, and always have 2 weeks cushion with my content. The only thing I notice you not mention in this video is about promoting published video … are you ever doing it? I also plan those activities in order to make sure that all my social media followers will find out that new wideo is up. What do you think about this? Greetings from Tenerife (Canary Islands Spain) ☺️
Thanks nick I have been rethinking my upload scechual I just moved into my flat and daily upload is aren't working just now so I'm now experimenting with my scechual now. I do RU-vid full-time i'm trying to fit filming content in with my other responsibilities. Keep the good work up nick
Hey Nick, these are very helpful tips👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾 Yes it can be tough to keep up with publishing more videos. Interesting... bathroom time😂😂😂 Thank you so much 🤗🤗🤗 Much blessings on you 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
True. The worst are the first months, then you get used to it... somehow. Went through all of those points, still struggling with making a one week cushion video, animal vloging is tough in that matter x3
Hi Nick, Excellent thanks. For some reason the next video end card you referred to did not show up for me, could link or title so I can watch. All the best, Ned
Nick, Thanks for responding! Don't know why but the desktop version had the link and card but the Android version did not. Mysteries of the universe. Ned
I think also a good point to make (which probably a lot of people know already but I’ll say it anyway) is that maybe if you have some money saved towards investing in your channel or you’re making decent enough money from it, you can then use that to outsource some of the work and then that will give you more freedom too.
Good stuff. This is what I do. I record ahead of time. Makes life sooo much easier. I can release 2 to 3 videos a week. I may ramp it up and live stream 2 to 3 times a week then edit them into highlights. Thanks for the tip. Side note. Full time dad and work full time as well. Where there us a will. There is a way.
Nice one Nick. My recording time is mainly on Thursday right after I drop my missus to work and kids to school as I have more peace in the house. I publish mainly on Sunday if I am lucky as I am adding more editing stuff in my videos now than what I used to have before such as sound effects, stickers and transitions. Do you think taking a break for a week is good especially if you miss out on your publish day? And, is it a good idea to publish on Thursday? One last thing, I just hope you are not reading this comment in the loo 😅
Cannot confirm nor deny 😆 If you don't have much data, the day of the week does not matter. Early on, make it work to fit your schedule. Its certainly OK to skip a week if you have any roadblocks along the way.
Hahaha 😄Thanks so much mate. I feel at ease now as I was a little concerned about my uploading schedule but did not want to push myself too much and end up completely not uploading @@NickNimmin
Great content! Just as a side note : I saw this video with a different title that made me save it for watch it later, and it was more appealing than the current one 👀.
I'm a full-time working husband and father who's days of are often not the same from week to week so I'm making content between all those thing's along with food shopping household stuff and playing my games and that I need one for my brain and two coz I'm a gaming RU-vidr
Fear of success…(I know right?) Logically, I know that I’m working hard anyway, so I’m not really going to be working that much harder. I’ll just be making money at it and that makes me feel WAY more accountable. I typically record and edit in the same day, and if it doesn’t have to be up immediately, then I can upload and schedule for publishing the next day. Getting ready for my Live can sink me many times. I really need to start that process the evening before.
I like what you say… but… I’m a musician and I have a channel (my other channel) where I put out music performance videos. That adds a whole other level to this content creation thing. I’ve struggled with getting videos published on a regular schedule. I’d like to go once a week, but I need to account for time to practice (I’m a pianist), especially some of the more difficult classical pieces I’m playing. My channel has been rather slow in going anywhere since I started it back in 2019. I’m trying to figure out how to pick up the pace without burning myself out. Of course, I have a full time job that takes up much of my time. What suggestions would you have for a schedule for my situation?
I love the idea of this schedule but the problem for me is that there’s no room for Shorts or Lives. Perfectly realize that Lives can fit into that recording time if you plan out your Lives well, but still. I trying to get more consistent with uploads, I just want to do all the things not just long form videos
Nick I recently watched a Utube video about a regular guy talking about retirement being a trap. No thumb nail just him telling his recent experience about being retired. He had over 90 thousand views in 5 days. Well I retired in 2010 at 48 and retired again in 2018 and am looking at drawing my SSI at the end of the year. So I made a short called Retirement is a Booby trap on a second channel I have. Within an hour the views skyrocketed to over 900 and then fell flat. So I made a walk and talk video titled The Retirement Myth last time I checked I had 6 views on that video. I also have over 500 videos/shorts and have less than 300 subscribers. Am I being oppressed by the system.
Not at all. You're talking about different videos of different lengths and different packaging. Response is going to be determined by how people #1 respond when shown the video thumbnail and title (or the initial few seconds for a Short) did they click in to watch or did they swipe away or scroll on, #2 for those that watched, did they watch all the way through or click away early on? The thing is, RU-vid will keep testing out those videos, but if they keep missing the mark with the people they are shown to, they will continue to under perform. You can experiment with different thumbnails and titles to improve #1 You can learn from #2 if viewers click away early, and improve future videos by editing for better retention, cutting out the parts that lose interest and also learn to better script videos to stay on point.
I have a plethora of ideas, and what I have been doing is make the thumbnails first, then that with the basic idea sets the tone for my script. This seems to work well but I am trying to hit th 2 videos a week goal.
I love going on RU-vid only when I want to learn something and I usually just go to the creators that have that 🤗. He is right about random scrolling through social media.
I'm getting a kick out of the ads that RU-vid is showing me with this video. It's some get rich quick scammer telling me that I can make money off other people's RU-vid videos and that RU-vid pays people to watch videos. In one of the ads the guy starts off by saying he's been making money like this for years, and then about 20 seconds later he says that it's a new RU-vid feature. Okay, which one is it? Has it been around for years or is it a new thing? Please don't fall for the scams and keep in mind that Nick has no control over the ads that RU-vid runs.
