Also, make sure that you clean out all the ashes and dust underneath the fire bowl area. Another area to cover is by opening the side panels you will see that there may be spiderwebs etc. on your blower motor and components .

I have the PI40 (purchased in 2003) the PI is the insert version of the PS40, but the guts of the stove are the same. The only problem I ever had was that the burn pot would not align consistently. I eventually figured it out. Pretty easy to clean once you get the hang of it. Get a metal hot ash shop vac type cleaner with a filter to suck out the fly ash and to clean the rest of the stove. Most importantly...DO NOT skimp on the pellets. Use high quality hardwood pellets. In No. Cal and So. Oregon we use Golden Fire. Great pellet, a lot less ash. A clean stove and burn pot are key to good ignition. The machine is a basically a carburetor. Keep it clean. The ignitor needs to touch the burn pot for it to light consistently. What you see in the video is a typical ignition sequence. Sometimes it takes a minute and you get a rich blend of fuel to air and then it soots up the window. Run the thing on ONE, it'll go at FIVE until it reaches temp, use a thermostat so it can turn on early in the morning for a warm house. That's a rambling 20 years of experience with this stove. Ignitors used to cost over $100 now they are $22 on Amazon...replacement parts are readily available.

Could you tell me why after our stove is burning it shuts off, and should it relite automatically

I might be able to help you with this, if your unit is the same as mine. The cause for it shutting off could be that the burn pot has clogged air passage holes.. Ash will end up building up inside these holes, preventing the flow of air . Once cooled down, remove the pot and use a vacuum or screwdriver to clean out the holes to have good airflow.. the stove does not re light itself. You’ll have to turn the selector back to number five setting and press ignite.. good luck. Let me know if this worked.

Hi, i was told its just an agitator for the soot that gets blown up there? If you work it back a few times, you’ll see how it releases ash , soot … I can’t confirm that , but thats what i was lead to believe

@@mikealarie007 I have this stove. Yes, that is what it's for. Use it right before you clean the inside of the stove. Don't do while you're burning(before or after) the soot will go into the burn pot. Once you pull it back and forth a few times(It'll make some scrapping noises) to dislodge the soot, let it settle before you open it up and vacuum it out.

You’re the man for making this video, not many videos out there for this stove. Just bought a house with one in it. My only question is what is that metal tab on the front of the vent?

Good question, im actually not sure if that is an air control? I always leave mine pushed in . That being said , every few days i work it in and out as it releases built up soot that gets blown up there…

Thanks for making this video. I just bought a house with one of these stoves in it, but there was no paperwork, so I wanted to learn about the stove a little before operating it. A couple questions: After you turn the knob to off, how long does it take for the burning pellets to finish burning up? How long until it is safe to leave the house after you turn it off. I know there are a lot of variables, but in general, if you have the heater on the middle setting, how many hours would you estimate you get out of a full hopper (1 1/2 bags of pellets)? Thanks.

Hi Pete , there are many variables. If operating at low vs high will effect how many pellets are in the bowl when you turn it off. Burn time also would vary depending on if they are hard wood , soft wood or mixed. Id say roughly 10 minutes and it would be burnt out . I typically start my stove on high then dial back the settings as it heats up in here. I would estimate a full hopper would get me about 24 hours give or take . Ps : you can sometimes save on pellets if you buy in bulk , and have them delivered. Something to look into ! Let me know if any other questions. Cheers !

@@mikealarie007 Thanks-that’s exactly what I was trying to get a feel for. Going to clean it today and try firing it up.

Make sure you properly clean out the holes in your fire bowl . They get blocked with ash . Of course have a proper fire extinguisher easily accessible to your unit. Good luck !

Hi Mike, Pete and Taylor, Like you guys, I too bought a house that had a Winslow PS40 Lennox. I've been using it for about 3-4 months and love this thing, except when it shut downs, seemingly for no reason at all...but watching Mike's video, I'm thinking maybe there is a leak in the gaskets or somewhere else, causing it to shut down. It's a mystery (for me anyway), last night, I just got the courage to leave the PS40 overnight and it worked great, probably about 12-13 hours. If it can go that long, maybe it's not the gasket seal that's the problem, maybe something else internal? I just don't know enough about this stove to start troubleshooting. One thing that I question is that on the left side, (looking from the front) there is a small plastic, mounted on the bottom, maybe 3-4 inches in diameter. This device had been broken and taped up with some type of clear tape. I removed the tape and sealed it up with Duct Seal, but it's not an adequate seal. There is red silicone tubing connecting to this device and then connected to the fire area. Maybe that's the problem? Let me know what you guys think. I'll see if I can get a couple of pics and send to you guys. Thanks!!
