There are no christian “gurus”. A Pastor, a Bible teacher or any leader among believers is only as good or right as they conform to the Word of God. It’s never to be what “my pastor” says or what anyone says. Every believer will be judged on how they respond to the Truth and for what they believe. We need to test everything according to God's Word.
We are not called to be “sin sniffers” but we are commanded to examine, anything being taught, by the Scripture. Pastors fall too and because people put their trust in those men, the people fall into disappointment and disarray when they fall.
Christians that insist on the Holy Scriptures as their only most trusted source of spiritual knowledge and truth are mocked as being unspiritual and some consider them to be in idolatry of a book. However, the Bible says to, “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth (2 Timothy 2:15).
Experientialists just want you to move free with the spirit. But to have a spirit divorced from the Word proves it cannot be the same Holy Spirit who wrote the Word. The Word of God is Truth (John 14:6; 17:17). The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth (John 16:13). You cannot separate the two.
Those who exercise discernment make themselves more of a target to be attacked more than any other ministry because they are contending with the truth against the falsehood that is so prevalent today.
Today, in most churches If discerning believers obey the "negative" biblical commands of Christ they are unloving.
If they carefully test things by the Bible it is called unloving.
If they warn about false gospels it is unloving.
Please be very cautious with all these Christian help books and special devotionals. The entire Bible is sufficient all by itself to mend broken hearts, heal relationships and bring encouragement as well as profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.
