I agree with everything you said about just consuming less, but I do have one tiny thing we should all think about. Coconut oil is amazing, we all agree on that. But to be a conscious consumer, shouldn't we maybe avoid a product that does not grow locally and is likely to produce monocultures somewhere? The trend is goign up, more and more people use coconut oil for stuff like skincare and cooking. I'm just not sure how that much coconut oil can be supplied in an environment friendly way. So do consider using other oils, like rapeseed or olive oil as much as possible.

Totally agree, like everything in nature we must think about balance.

Loretta S I've been thinking alot about this when it comes to coconut oil. I've tried to find pictures and information about the production but can't find anything.

I read about it in a german magazine, but a quick google search revealed this for example: www.ethicalconsumer.org/ethicalreports/palmoilreport/coconutoil.aspx It's obviously not as bad as palm oil, but still, simply due to the increasing demand I find it a bit troubling

you have a very good point I actually never really considered to be honest. The first article you linked says buying coconut oil is bad because the farmers live in poverty, which doesn't make sense to me. If they live in poverty then they probably want our business? But the second article is much better, the biggest concern is transportation from across the world and its contribution to greenhouse gasses. We should definitely be more conscious of how far away our food is being shipped from. Thanks for bringing up this point!

People are surprised when you tell them to 'just not buy it' because we are all so mass marketed to with advertising and being brainwashed to buy these products, our whole lives, it's a revolutionary way of thinking. I notice this when I explain these types of things to my own family.. it shouldn't be so hard to comprehend or put into action. Btw what do you use for shaving creme with your safety razor? Ive used coconut oil but it seemed to clog it up.

I try to be a conscious consumer by gathering as much information as I can. For instance, I was completely unaware of the "clothes market" and how it works, and why some clothes were so cheap compared to other products.. therefore I decided to watch the documentary " the True Cost" about fashion industry.. and a WHOLE WORLD opened up before my eyes! I couldn't believe how ignorant I was about such an important topic, about the things I bought and wore every single day... Well, to make is short... I try to educate myself :) Love your channel and your instagram page! x from Italy

Thank you for the suggestion :) I have been thinking about watching it for quite some time, I admit that I'm a bit scared about it, because I know how much it will change my point of view on soon many things!

Winewinky it will definitely change your perspective on how you see the world-but I think you and I both know that this change will be for the better. I really hope that you just go for it and watch it! 😀

I love this! Just not buying something is so easy to do, yet is such a hard concept to grasp (I know it's still a bit of a struggle for me!). Love love everything you talk about and you really are so inspiring!

Yes, yes to everything...I have no problem just "not using things" like fingernail polish, to use your example. In the back of my mind however I am not looking forward to the awkward conversations I will have with my daughters (now a baby and 3yo) when they start asking for experiences such as painting their nails. I'm going to feel like such a hard ass.

Bethany Baker I feel like if you don't do it they won't feel pressured to. If they see people around them doing things differently I guess you could explain you want to keep them healthy. Or get creative in alternatives

ty... conscious consuming also applies to food especially when it comes to purchasing meat, dairy and eggs... you could use your entire video and apply to those purchases as well and just not buy it...

Summary *Conscious consumer: someone who wants to do the research and find the most ethical products according to their beliefs and values. It is also about consuming less and producing less waste. *Nonimportant purchases: things you do not use that you do not need to feel happy and healthy. *To be a conscious consumer you need to re-evaluate your needs and consume less. *To start, you can look through your trash and see what you could not consume to prevent that trash.
