Is it better to be a manager at a restaurant then a server? I have no idea how much money managers make. So idk. I’ll love to work up to that if I knew it was worth it

@@hbhtcr5707 more stable income as you're no longer work for tips. But in a lot of cases, you will not make more money than the waiters. I've heard of many waiters passing up a managers job because they would actually end up making less.

Really great advice here. I’ve learned from serving that it’s doubtful that everything will go perfectly. Just prepare and expect for unexpected things to come up. Just move from one thing to the next in a line and back-track only when really necessary, and you’ll get everything done no problem. Waiting tables really can be a rewarding career.

Dont just learn the menu. Learn all the bar liquers in order to upsale the mix drinks. Dont even mention the well liquers like taaka vodka in your speal. Would you like grey goose or Ketel One. When he says be fresh and not repetitive this is so true. Its easy to burn out from falling into saying the same thing to each table. Keep it fresh. Learn to cook the food can help you so much not just eating. . Learn the wines and once again dont mention the house . All wine drinkers know there is a house so no need asking if thats what they want. Details Details. Repeating the Order back to the customer does so much and you rarly see anybody do it anymore. This is very Good in getting a bigger Tip. Most people appreciate this and see you as a step above most waiters.
@DevonWayne
@DevonWayne 6 лет назад
Grey goose might help your ticket price go up higher, but well drinks helps your restaurant in the profit margin. The margin on grey goose is like 10-20% where as the margin on a bottle of well vodka is often 400-600%. Way better.

You are most welcome friend :) Now for the advanced course: servetips.com .... many people leave comments saying my FREE videos on RU-vid either got them a serving job or even promoted to manager... so why not drop an easy 20 bucks and learn the mindset of the advanced server, as well as get the concepts and a free gift/training course on how to start your own business... I promise you as a waiter you can choose to become an entrepreneur naturally.... I did and just moved to Asia on Monday... relaxing right now in my new rented 2-story house, riding around on my scooter, kicking it with my dog... and also, opening my own bar/restaurant soon in Asia... I am not just talking out of my ar$e on these videos or comments folks!

I am a software engineer with over 4 years of experience. At this time I want to shift towards working with people. A waiter is a good option because it involves constant interaction with people. I had 1 year of bus person experience in the fine dining restaurant before. Which route should I take here, apply at the expensive fine dining restaurant right away or make my way up slowly starting with a simpler cafe? Any advice is much appreciated.
@TrueGritProductions
@TrueGritProductions 8 лет назад
Go from busser to runner. While running the food learn the menu and ingredients. Ask for a study sheet if they have one. At the same time, get a job as a server in a small cafe where you can practice serving and apply your fine dining observations and experience to the cafe setting risk free. After some time, apply for a better server position in a better restaurant than a cafe or just ask for 1 or 2 tables to wait on at the fine dining place where you are a runner.

@@wmfbmp5743 hey. First of all, wow. I totally forgot I ever vented here. Yikes 😅 Second of all, no. Since then I actually worked 3 more seasons in different places across the South and one extra challenging at Corse. And then 3 seasons in Iceland in most relaxing waitressing job ever. 😅 Funny enough, I can remember all these feelings that I wrote here, but as bad it was and I was, it was experience that shaped me the most and since then I became hard worker and many places appreciated me for that. Eventually, I had a good supporting colleague that basically took me under her wing. This was in Le Grau Du Roi. I wonder how different person I would have been without this experience. 😅 Now I work in England, hoping to soon leave hospitality industry.

Can you talk about how to exercise multitasking?
@TrueGritProductions
@TrueGritProductions 8 лет назад
+Olanna Says I think it involves turning off your conscious mind and absorbing the details of your situation completely without trying to remember every one, and letting the info come back to you when needed. Also, at first it can be good to constantly be running your next 5 tasks through your mind so that your actions eventually naturally follow the priorities and adapt on the fly without stressing.
@marklevibetancourt1
@marklevibetancourt1 8 лет назад
+Olanna Says The challenges of multitasking is going to be diffrent in every place you work because the dutys that you are asked to preform will differ. Once you work in a place long enough it will become second nature how to ebb and flow. So just know that going into a new place or if your waiting tables for the first time. But yes the things that will start to become natural is time management. When you have 20 things to do in ten mins. You wont have to think about how many trips you have to walk from the back to the front and grab what items to do what project or get something for a table. You will naturally grow into doing the job. Its so true you need to avoid negativity so I take it a step further. Remeber your there to make money so avoid negative people all together and just concetrate on that cash. GL
