Before making luxury purchase make sure you have emergency money (things happen in life we could not control) saved up. And if you don't see yourself wearing the handbag 5-10 yrs from now don't buy it or sell it before making new purchase. Great info Steph, I am also teaching myself to be a minimalist in every thing.
This is good advice for sure! Having an emergency fund is very wise & I like you’re idea of 5-10 years. Really glad you liked the video thanks for commenting! 💗
These are sure-fire ways to cut conspicuous luxury consumption--great video! I have a spreedsheet (not as pretty as yours! lol), spend time with my bags by cleaning, and my bags are always on display so I don't forget at them. Cutting social media scrolling is a game changer too. To kick the habit, I've replaced scrolling with reading ebooks in the morning. Reading helps calm wash over me and is a nice way to start the day. Appreciating the things we have is so important.
Enjoyed this video so much. I have been on a journey to reduce my collection for the past year now and have gone from owning 37 luxury handbags down to 23. It was really hard to decide which ones to let go but I pretty much only kept the bags that I was not afraid to wear no matter the price tag- no more buying beautiful bags just because it looks good displayed. Right now I am practicing “Enjoy what you Have.” Even 23 is still a lot and my eventual goal is to have 18 but some of the old classics that I still love are honestly not worth selling so I’ll just keep them.
About 3.20: This!! With clothes, I've done that since I was 15. Save my pocket money, buy one nice, good quality piece of clothing. I still wear these things I bought back then (I'm 43 years old by now), and they are still looking good. (And that's because I honestly get annoyed when some grown-up people write, I can't afford pricier clothes, I have to buy fast fashion. Come on. If a teenager could save up her pocket money, I'm sure you can put some, if only a small amount, of your income aside to then buy something that you can wear for years. (Don't usually comment in a criticizing way, but wanted to say it at least once 😏.))
I have benefited a lot by finding your RU-vid channel and other ones about handbags which has given me an outlet to look at bags without having to purchase them and make comments on them and so feel a part of a luxury conversation without spending money all the time. I realised that although I thought I know my taste I have learnt that sometimes I think I could look further for an item that really satisfies me.
Also I have learnt through experience that if you are only in browsing mode when you go to luxury boutiques it is best to leave your credit card at home. If you are in shopping mode then make sure you have a pretty good idea what you want to buy because it is not the fault of sales associates but if you do nit know what you really want they may suggest bags which you end up buying but we’re not really what you were looking for. There is so much choice in some of the luxury shops that one can get dazzled by so many options, one can get seduced by the “not completely right” bag.
This is such a nice video to see amongst all the luxury hauls that have been showing up in my feed. A reminder that sometimes we need to take a step back from all the luxury eye candy and think before we spend. I have created for myself a "bag capsule wardrobe" so as I'm looking at new bags I've got this guideline in the back of my mind of what will fit with my life and closet.
BEST VIDEO YOU HAVE EVER DONE! i have to become too a Luxury Minimalism. I need to enjoy what i have and to decluter and let the bags go, who i used less. thx a lot for this nice video Stef! i have pressure too and can't enjoy what i have lately so it has arrived the point for me too, to stop. have a nice day and thx again!!
Omg this video was made for me! I recently started falling in love with luxury items in March when my husband got me my first LV bag. Since then I’ve added about more LV items to my collection. It doesn’t help that I found an amazing CA who really communicates well with me & calls/texts whenever they get something that I’m looking for or she thinks I’ll like.
haha, glad that you like the video! Yes its so easy to fall in love and into the luxury trap. I think it's important we love and reflect on what we have already,
I don’t know how women with so many luxury bags deal with their husband here but my husband treated me like shit . I work hard for the last 18 years, raising 3 kids and take care of my family. He said all kinds of things to hurt my feelings. I’m just very hurt now to the point I want to sell my house, my business , divorce. Anybody can give me advices ?
I bought the no spend book you read. Probably won’t be THAT extreme but it might help consuming a different type of content when it comes to shopping. Thanks for this!
Great tips Steph! Tip no 5 rings so true to me, I am always on the look out for a new bag, sometimes even before I start using the one that I have just purchased. Your spreadsheet is a fab idea, I will definitely be download that. Thank you so much 😀
Great tips. Especially the last one which I’m guilty of. I keep a spreadsheet too and every now and then if I get “itchy” to buy another bag, I go to check the resale value of the ones I might sell. If I really want that new bag, I sell some of what I have. To make sure I clear stock of what I have.
Yes Catherine, it's so true. It's a great priviidge to own such beautiful bags and it's good to take time to reflect on this and the lovely bags we have. Thanks for commenting!
I think it’s possible to be a luxury minimalist. I feel that the individual has the freedom & choice to design their own form of minimalism. Colourful Noir is a luxury minimalist on RU-vid
Yes, very good tips. I want to reduce my collection to 15 bags ( I know 10 would be better 😊). For example, today I will sell my LV Coussin PM (was hard to get) but I know that I won‘t use it. The other thing I will try, is not to buy bags that I see on Instagram any more. To buy online is a really good idea 👍. I always buy my bags in store (LV 😂) and my SA calls me every two weeks because she wants to sell the brand new bags. But if you order online, you‘ll sometimes have to wait, because the bag is sold out and you can‘t get it at once.
haha me too Edma! So many nice things to buy. I hope that this helps people find peace with what they already have / be more conscious on new purchases.
Have you tried the CLOSET app or something like that? You upload all your stuff make outfits and it takes the edge off when you see something you like. I also see all my bags in one place on my tablet so I can talk myself out of the wanting by seeing what I have that already goes with my outfits.
I also want to spend more time with the bags I have and fall in love with them all over again since I really don’t need to buy anymore bags for at least one year.
My biggest problem is too many bags, but not enough space to store them/ see them properly. I know if I could see how much I have I wouldn't purchase another thing. I could be wrong. But I genuinely believe if I could see them everyday, it would overwhelm me.
Yes that’s a really good point. I feel the same. I store mine away and sometimes forget I have certain bags! If I could see them all too I probably wouldn’t purchase as much
My favorite tip is to stop scrolling so much. I find myself searching for the new bag and I barely wear the last one I bought. I am guilty of buying online and not liking it in person. I am stopping this as well. I love your idea about making a list. I used my boy bag literally everyday for a few month and it took some damage. It now lives in its box in my closet. I feel bad for her. I also like to get my bags out and if I go for a while I completely have forgotten one or two of the vintage Balenciaga bags that would be happy to come out of their little spot too. Thank you for the tips.
You’re welcome. Yes I agree! I also feel like I’m constantly on to the next thing and havn’t even properly enjoyed what I already have. Do you think you’ll use your boy bag slot again?
@@Handbagholic yes. I bring out my boy bag once in a while but ever since I got the flap 19 ….. I am wearing it non stop. I want the coco top handle for fun however I have a small closet and would need to get rid of something else first. It’s an expensive game to be played. Thank ton for your tips and tricks.
Hello! I am seeing your video from last month and love the bags you own them. In this video you have red YSL bag. I cannot find it in internet. I would be pleased when you give some information to me. Thank you .
This is a great video and although I absolutely love all of my bags I started listing them down as I was watching and I’m shocked. Work to be done here….and that’s only the LV 😫
I have always considered myself a luxury minimalist and people always laugh at me. But I have a small collection of only 6 bags and I feel bag piece. If I choose to buy a new bag, I sell a current one. I also have only one pair of earrings, 5 SLG's and one ready to wear ☺️
@@Handbagholic I will admit it takes a lot of will power haha I also have to stop scrolling on IG too or I end up thinking I should own more bags. But I don't. I have a bag for a different occasion (one tote, one evening bag, one work bag, one classic flap etc) and it works so well for me
Just got 2 chanel bags and my husband don’t talk to me for months. I work 7 days a week 12 hours a day. I have to take care 3 kids. Owning a small business and take care everything in the home. I don’t understand why he left me just because of what i bought.
Yes, I can say I am minimalist. I don't like fast fashion and I dont like to buy clothes and shoes. Buuuuut:))) I am into luxury bags and I had a lot! But a few months ago I started to learn to appreciate what I have, use it and buy no more. I just found that some bags really serve me well and I dont need others except just look at them and adore. What a waste!
😆 true! and I think having a smaller luxury budget can be a good thing. When you do make a purchase it's a big one and you put more time and effort into finding the right thing
@@Handbagholic very true! I have the money to buy some lovely items, but I don’t have the income to keep doing so. So i’m very selective and really think about what bags I want. It’s a well thought out purchase 🥰😁
I love this video 💖 I have 5 luxury bags, 1 on its way out cos it's unsuitable for me. And a bunch of 5 - 8 high street brands/ dupes to enjoy different varieties of bags. 🛍️👛👜🎒👝
