Hi guys, I'm Eileen. In this video, I talked about why I downsized my luxury collection. Nope I don't sell just to buy more, I'm done with the luxury fast fashion rat race, it's not worth it. Some of you know I was quite a shopaholic at one point (oh yea I love going to Chanel, Hermes, and Dior). My luxury wish list was never ending, and I was always adding more pieces on. I feel very fortunate to have found minimalism because it completely changed the way I look at shopping. In the last 2 years, I downsized my luxury collection a whole lot, including luxury bags, fine jewelry, designer shoes and more. I sold all the luxury items I bought on impulse, because of FOMO, and pieces I simply didn't use much. I've made so many shopping mistakes, but decluttering makes me feel like I have the power to reverse my regrets. The pieces I sold include VCA magic alhambra necklace, cartier JUC bracelet, cartier love bracelet, Hermes Lindy bag, Chanel Boy Flap, and more. Honestly, decluttering feels absolutely refreshing and it's something I'll keep doing xx

I think it’s so interesting when you mentioned the walk in closet; for years I wanted a huge girly walk-in closet/ office. I recently finally got the chance and now I find it obnoxious for me and my life. It’s funny how social media influences us to think we need certain things.. like a new purse every week or a huge room to hold all our stuff! I love seeing unboxings and closet tours but I don’t need it in my life.

I just went through the same. I realized that having a curated closet suited me better + saving the money makes me feel good.

I agree about the large closet being obnoxious. I like luxury but having too much, too many choices is overwhelming. I’m not a celebrity or a socialite, so I don’t need that kind of space for just clothes, bags and shoes. It’s a blessing to have that space, but an ever bigger blessing to realize you don’t need to fill it up.

I love decluttering too and glad I did bc it made moving so much easier for us recently. Few years ago I did envy ppl having a walk in closet with 50 bags at one point.. but now looking back I realise its very silly and I am happy to settle with a small collection of less than 10, with sufficient space for them in my closet, which I share with hb.

Love your idiology for spending less and do appreciate and really uee all of you belongings. I used to love shopping for handbags and wallets, but now I try so hard to downsize my possessions, especially handbags and wallets. Thanks for distributing the very good attitude and practical performances of blending minimalism into our shopping performance with flexible and relaxing attentions.

Thanks for sharing. I just want to add one more…. SPACE. I am from Hong Kong and space is very expensive. I started following you because I want to be more mindful about my purchases as it is occupying a lot of space that could be used in a better way. I have cabinets that after de cluttering, I didn’t need anymore. So I was able to put a very cozy and relaxing lounge chair in it’s place 😊

YES!!!! This video says it all! I couldn't agree more.....when I watch all these "influencers" (hate that term), they have SO much and it gives me anxiety just watching their videos and seeing how big their bag collections really are. To me, it is SO ridiculous, there is NO way they use all those bags. Why have them? It is really redundant. Thank you so much for all your videos....because of you, I realize I DO NOT need so much and it makes me SO SO much happier.!~

And when those same people do a bag review that includes wear and tear I’m baffled. Using a bag a couple of days a month (if that!) for a year is not true wear and tear in my opinion.

Funny you should say this: I just realized I do not like watching certain vloggers anymore, because they give me anxiety. Sometimes, if they just keep unwrapping box after box, it is even a bit sickening. Especially if they claim it's all terribly environmentally friendly, because some of the boxes were made of recycled cardbord, lol. Enough already!

@@CarolinaZ501 I realized many years ago when I was shopping and purchasing so many things all the time, I was trying to fill a void of some sort. Now that I recognize this, I do not feel the need to shop and spend and WANT all these luxurious things. I have PLENTY and need to use what I do have. I am much happier this way to have less and less anxiety for it as well.

Over the years, I’ve downsized from 36 designer handbags (which included 10+ different luxury brands) to currently only 6 designer handbags (all from the same brand). As you said, Eileen, what a weight lifted off my shoulders! Importantly, I truly love all of my current bags and it’s so much easier to use 6 (vs 36) on a rotational basis. Your philosophy resonates for me on many different levels (not just bags). Thank you for the videos you produce and keep up the positive work!

I've recently started reading lots of books on minimalism, & decluttered my place so much. Feels so much lighter! I've stopped the endless shopping & only buying items that need to be replaced, & it has been wonderful so far. I used to always think I needed more to happy, but turns out I already have enough. The minimalism mindset has made me more grateful & appreciative.

You’re the reason why I toggle between luxury haul videos often and then Minimalism videos such as yours. Because it keeps me grounded to not make that expensive, unnecessary purchase. Because of those haul videos I all of a sudden have purchased 5 expensive LV SLGS this year alone and the checkout basket remained full as did my “wish list”. Now I can’t stop watching still but I remind myself of how good it feels to know my money is best spent on a necessity or saved for an emergency. So now I just think 🤔 I have my curated little (but plentiful” collection of SLGs) and don’t need much more. It’s really curbed my appetite for excess.

I am totally on your side. I was such a shopaholic for 20 years and finally I learned that I do not have to shop constantly. You only need essentials for your life to look nice and clean, not a huge closet full of clothes, shoes, bags and even jewerly. I am very proud of myself and I am so happy for myself.

Same feeling. I watch those with massive luxury collection because everytime I watch them, I feel thankful that I don’t have that kind of collection. I used to dream of having that kind of closet, but now, I feel uneasy looking at bags that are out of style, that looks tacky with all the prints, logos and colors. It is always a good idea to declutter. Thank you for bringing up the security issue because it is definitely a big issue but not really talked about on youtube. I recently decluttered and I have less than 5 bags in my closet now. I may move in the future as well and I don't want stuff to "weigh" me down. I still love beautiful things and shopping but I want to be more intentional about my wishlist and stick just buying one luxury item this year with my low buy year in 2022. Wish me luck.

I have been watching your Videos for 2-3 years now & I really Love how your sense of Style & Priorities have evolved within that time. Mine have too! I'm completely in agreement with what you've been talking about lately concerning Downsizing & Minimalism Living. I think that with all the Pandemic Lock-downs we've ALL gone thru a type of change that has caused us to come to a Realization about what's REALLY important in Life! I think your Videos kind of reflect that we are coming out of that Fog of trying to keep up with.....& coming down to Earth in Practicalities, Thrift Comparing, Quality over Quantity & Value of Home & Family, etc. I've been taking my nice clothes (not necessarily designer) that I haven't worn for two years+Shoes & Handbags to a Resale Boutique! You'd be surprised at how much you can get for your nearly new clothing & accessories! Now that we're getting older, (hubby & I) we've begun to drastically de-clutter everything in our closets, personal items, decorating items, furniture, dishes etc. (We feel like a weight has come off our shoulders) I'm also taking time to seek better Health & Greater Spirituality! So I'm with you all the way with the changes you recommend! 🥰 P.S. Your Eye Makeup is so very beautiful in this Video! It's just perfect! 🤩

I love your videos as I have enjoyed revamping my life as we live in a tiny home. My closet has room & my dresser has room. I am only buying what I need. I made my first purchase this year only yesterday. Two new pair of jeans. The purchase was planned and as it was fun trying on other things I stood very focused and only bought the jeans. I am so happy with my purchase and I carefully priced brands, studied what I thought would look appropriate for my figure and then made a decision on a brand. One pair was on sale the other not, but they were so perfect I did not want to miss out items seem to be limited in some stores. 👖I am looking forward to adding some things for the SPRING/SUMMER time of year. THANK YOU for all of your positive videos.

Hi Eileen, I really enjoy watching your videos because I share all your POV on luxury minimalism and intentional shopping. I used to be a shopaholic, consistently ticking off items on my luxury wish list. This pandemic changed a lot of things and after being forced to work from home for months made me think deeply about the purpose of our lives, and that we really don't need so many things to live happily. I started decluttering, selling, donating and reorganizing all my belongings after watching the Marie Kondo series on Netflix and reading her book, and I started to feel so much lighter and happier. The last (and ironically most difficult) mission for me now is to declutter and organise my work/personal emails, documents, all the random electronic files in my computer and phone.

Wise words as always Eileen. As I’ve gotten older (now in my late 50s) all I want is a simple life. I do love luxury and have only been collecting for around five years but I never wanted to have a huge collection. I’m trying to declutter my home and only keep the things I need and love. I’m allowing myself to buy luxury as it’s something I enjoy but also know that there’s a limit to how many I honestly will use. I think social media, especially Instagram, has been detrimental to many as it makes many people feel that they should be living the same life as these influencers.😩 The average person will never be able to live up to what they see on social media……it’s not real. I’m actually glad they didn’t have IG when I was younger.🥰

@@ColourfulNoir I’m so happy that you’ve regained the love and appreciation for a simpler life. I think it’s my age…..59 next month and the fact that I’ve had an autoimmune disease since I was 17. I don’t want added worries and the more you have the more you have to worry about. We have bought a smaller home for our retirement but my husband isn’t ready to move yet. I’m trying to make my life easier by decluttering so that it’s easier to clean and maintain. I’d be happy in a little shack by the ocean.😂😂😂 It’s not going to happen but at least I can aim for a simple life. This is so interesting. I have travelled for ten years and just settled down, had my first child and the second one on the way. I have never owned any items of value since I’ve always appreciated experiences much more than physical things, and I haven’t even had a place to store physical belongings - until now. After saving up the amount of money I need to support myself and my family for three years, I have finally started investing a bit in good quality handbags and clothes. To me, a bag collection of around five to seven handbags that will last for years and years is more than enough. I find it very fun, slowly choosing pieces, doing research and comparing brands. My rule of thumb is: if I’m still thinking about a bag six months after I first fall in love with it, I will go ahead and purchase it. That way only the things I really really enjoy will enter my collection. Most things actually fall of my wish list after a couple of months and the few things I have bought - like my dark green Celine Triomphe and my blue Bvlgari Serpenti bag - are very well used. I appreciate your videos because your perspective is so different from mine, yet your thought process is very similar to mine. Thank you!

Great points! The one about letting go, being ready to let go is a challenging one for me. I know I have many things I don’t wear often or “enough”, like when you said, “at least I have them”, is how I feel…. How did you get to a place where you felt ok with moving forward in letting go and wanting less?

I embrace minimalism, we even live in a tiny house, and clutter makes me anxious. However I am too sentimental and tend to get attached to things because they are attached to a special memory or person. Even if I never use the item, and never plan to, I still have a hard time letting go. Could you do a video on tips for dealing with this issue?

Dear Eileen, As usual, this makes perfect sense. Isn't it funny (yet also rather sad) that most of us need so much time (and money) to realize these truths?

Hello Eileen ! Thank you for this insightful video . May I ask , how do you sell your bags? I’m thinking of doing the same. Thank you

I just let go of four handbags after lots of debate and waiting for the the right time sell. I got pretty lucky and was able to get my entire investment back, plus a small profit. I know that doesn't happen often! With the money I received, I am going to purchase one bag that I've been thinking about purchasing for over a year. This one bag will work SO much better in my wardrobe and with my lifestyle than the other four bags ever did. Less is definitely more ❤.

I also preferred a curated small bag collection. I don't like to keep anything extra that i don't use but I have this Dior saddle style wallet that I bought preloved that I don't quite use cos it is a bit too large for most of my bags. I prefer to use my smaller wallet for practicability. I don't intend to sell this Dior wallet as I love the style.. To feed my obsession with bags, I choose to keep photos of the bags instead to look thru.. It is free and I feel that it's a collection too.. a collection of dream bag wardrobe pictures.. haha.. Silly as it sounds but it makes me feel happy without feeling stressed of having overwhelmed with a big bag collection which some are unused because of security reasons. I don't really like to declutter either cos I almost always lose money in the process, so I just buy what I think I would like to keep or use.

That's what I use Pinterest for. Similarly to you I save the pictures from (mostly fashion) items I like but from the first second know I won't ever buy - and I'm happy just looking at the pictures.

Love decluttering closet as well, one that motivates me is your RU-vid channel 🤩 Anyway, I’m in the mid of decision to buy LV palmsprings mini. Actually I’ve been looking for it for a long time (over 2 years lol). Do you recommend this piece ? 🥰

I might think if I waited 2 years and did with out I really don’t need it. Also isn’t it the wanting that’s the fun bit, and while you want the LV Palmsprings you don’t want anything else? But that could just be me. 😀🤷‍♀️

I have started downsizing last year. I plan on moving next year and living 25 years in this house, we have collected so much stuff. I am done with the books. Most of my things are gone that I no longer use or want. Next we have to work on the husband. I love living with almost nothing. I wish I did that years ago.

I’m at this point. My closet and wardrobe are full of handbags. I don’t use most of them. I keep thinking of sending them for a special occasion. I have figured out I like handheld bags and bucket bags. I really like the Polène brand bc their leather is awesome. I have been thinking of selling some bags and getting a vintage lady Dior or just saving my money for a rainy day. What’s the point of having 100 handbags if you can’t or won’t enjoy them.

It is easy to declutter clothes that don`t fit or feel unfomfortable. But how would you declutter if you had 10 jumpers that all are beautiful and comfortable? What if you had 10 Chanel bags that all were beautiful colours and styles that worked for you?

My humble opinion and my personal goals: Keep what you love but don’t buy anymore. Or at least not as often. Maybe just 1-2x per year depending on what your luxury minimalist goals are. Use what you already have and stop watching unboxing videos. Haha. Those videos always trigger me to spend.
@ColourfulNoir

I agree with @CaJuJa, I'll keep the pieces I use the most, and if it's tricky, I'll try to buy more and enjoy using what I already have xx

Though you made great points in this video, I have to disagree on selling anything Chanel way too soon as their prices keep rising up. If you hold on to Chanel and Hermès pieces long enough, you can even MAKE a good profit instead of losing some money... Nevertheless this was such an inspiring and interesting view on the minimalistic lifestyle! Thanks! ❤️

Yes but it’s contingent on you keeping the bags in good condition, and finding a reputable buyer. Trust me it’s easy to find buyers for $1K bags but when you’re trying to sell a $10K bag without selling to a consignment store (huge commissions) it’s a huge pain and stress. Plus the value of money also decreases with inflation so she’s better off getting rid of things she doesn’t use sooner rather than later and putting the money towards better things! She no longer values these items and they bring her stress 🤷🏻‍♀️

My wishlist is never ending and I can never let go of the stuff that took me too long to get but then realize that it does not serve my lifestyle. I just have a small question. Do you feel like your mindset shift happened after you secured your wishlist items ?
