Dude, preach! I just restarted my music journey after a decade of hiatus. Released an album way back and now I just feel like I lost my prime years building a "good life". Everything you said in this video is gold and I'm already applying in one way or another but it really enforces it. And you're a great teacher btw.
When orginizing projects before naming them, I usually title them as seasons. Like if its my 8th release and I want to make an EP or album I do S8_E2 for season 8, episode 2. Seems kind of weird but it helps me out a lot!
Using my background as a programmer I would say that those not finished projects are basically music world equivalent of R&D projects. You just do research and analyze new technics that might or might not work in your serious projects but this is the space to learn about them and verify that.
Been doing the folder organization for years and it's been a game changer. I typically add genre and/or some gear related note after the date of the project so I can glance back at March 2020 and see what I was vibin on at the time. Great vid 🙌
Bro I’m can’t wait to see what u bring us this year fam…..I started the making music the same way as u just because the way u show people so thank u bro I appreciate u
The first tip is core of a productive workflow. We often forget to use what we already possess and run for what else we can get our hands on at the moment.
Happy New Year Taetro! Just started out this year fresh with a Push 2 and Skillshare etc........... Gonna work towards building skills and making some nice beats in 2022
Happy New Year Taetro, love your videos. Got a quick tip for your folder names - if you add the 2-digit month number to the month name, for example "02 Feb", "05 May", etc, then your folders will be listed in the right order (instead of alphabetically). You could also use "00" on the beginning of the folders you want to show up first in the list ("Good stuff" in your case)
What a wonderful guide for the new year and for life in general. I just started to make music in this past August when I bought my first midi keyboard Arturia Keylab 49 for my birthday. And then a few months later found your channel. One of the things you mentioned I do already like have other creative or non creative outlets. With me I’m an illustrator, painter that happened to get the music production bug last summer. I wanted to use my own sounds scapes and music when posting my work. So music is my diversion from making art and now vice versa. Hehe! You always present great informative, inspiring, and creative content. Thank you!! 👍🏽 And Happy New Year!
First of all, happy new year @TAETRO. I am relatively new to this channel, but when I come here for a video or join a stream, it just feels like home. This community is amazing, and especially you. Great video as always. I'll definitely follow these tips. I just started(1.5mth ago) making music and you were very helpful in introducing me into the world of making music. I grew out of FL and now I'm learning AL11. I finally bought a midi controller, brought some dynamics into my tracks. IDK what to say, so... Thank you for what you do, and best wishes in the new year!
Really looking forward to everything you and this community have to offer this new year. You are a great inspiration and a wonderful person. Best wishes
It's ridiculous how much of a good vibe your videos are. And thanks for the guide, I felt the pressure after releasing a track last November and then kept putting off creating anything else thinking there's no way I can get 5k streams again(not that it's a lot) and that it was a fluke. The goals vs aspirations part spoke volumes to me. I set a goal of one track a month, no matter if it's released to success or not, it should first of all be about the music and the process. And if I may add, another part is that there's too much comparison being done and you get sort of a sense of...inferiority I guess? Anyway, thanks again, keep up the awesome content!
Nice motivation. Just bought gear for making music and voice work. Greatly inspired by your collection of gear and daw. But man, starting from very little musicknowledge - to make the first track is overwhelming but your help makes it a lot easier. Thanks for that :)
thanks Taetro! I def need to get my projects organised. I often waste time looking for a specific project to finish coz I sometimes can't remember what I named it. sound advice!
Happy new year! And let me start the year by saying thanks for the series you made for music theory. Yours, Paul Davids' and a video of an interview with Victor Wooten got me over the hurdle in understanding basic music theory. So thank you so much for that!
Thank you so much for this! If I’m being honest with myself? I think I put a little too much pressure on myself to make music all the time. This video helped me realize that it’s okay to go outside of that music world I love so much. It won’t hate me or love me any less. Thanks!
Hey just finished your "music theory for beginners" thanks so much very clear. Can you do a video on correlation between Melody and chords? When to switch chords?..... What is a target note? Would be so helpful, thankyou
Just spent 10 days on a beautiful Island away from doing any music and it was great to get away and take a break. For once my Push 2 didn't make my backpack! Tomorrow I start Andrew Huang's 30 day music production course so fully recharged and ready to go! Hopefully will get as much out of it as I did from #beatober. Released 3 of my beatober tracks so far and definitely more to come.. Thanks for the inspiration as always! 🙌😎🤘🇹🇭
This year is to take up more classes I took your ADSR class for beginners and Have watched/replayed to recreate some stuff you made on the livestreams From even getting sounds from splice I’ve seen you use Now I’m going to try out Rachel k Colliers class Also to improve on my b sections, basically better song structures Anyways thanks man 🙏🏽
Doing the folder thing this year. Maybe not gonna be a full 2 min track but can be salvaged into a beat video. Yeah getting into that, using my background as designer/illustrator those unfinished music stuff was just a "sketch" to learn how to do something with a very specific tool/technique so that's fine. I'm amazed on how music doesn't have names for those XDDD. Anyway great video about goals and aspirations and what not. Looking forward to see what everyone including myself can create this year. Had to add a hobby non art related than would be beneficial like lifting weighs. Cause too much time in the studio either designing/editing or music related. Fresh air, fresh ideas. Need to work more on my goals list and the rest to be a better artist this year, thanks for your content otherwise I would had never started this journey
Hey, TAETRO! Loved your video on music theory, since I finally decided to give music production a shot. I wanted to ask you one small question regarding my gear. I have the Scarlet 2i2 and the Akai mini. Both are 2nd gen. I was wondering, would you recommend upgrading to the 3rd gen for both of these products? Thanks!
I got a question for anyone that is wiling to answer. So I've had this midi controller for almost a week now. I am not gonna get too specific, but beforehand, and even afterwards, I searched the internet for any tutorials and any videos that would help me start making music with it as fast as possible. But unfortunately, there is one problem with my midi that seems to have no solid answer too. Occasionally a key or multiple keys on the piano bed plays at an extremely low velocity. As far as I know, they still work. It's just that, other keys around it will make a sound, but that one or group of keys will play at the lowest velocity possible. To be a little bit more specific, eventually if I press on it again, the key will make a sound . I have searched and searched all over and have not found a single solution. I have a MPK mini Mk3, and I have already tried the hold on Full Level button trick. As far as I know its not a latency problem, so I don't know what it is.
Wow... can I just say this is probably one of the more helpful videos, for me, that you have made. The way to organize projects was definitely a duh moment! I'm also a writer and like very descriptive wording so I'm always trying to title my projects, and then all the random description confuse me later on. Creating a simple dated folder system makes better sense. Also ya building a project simply to learn a certain technique or explore some pack or something was a helpful idea. Hadn't thought of that. Getting locked into like you pointed out that urge to Finish the track. Where that really wasn't the point.
My respected sources have eschewed computers because of latency. Therefore, sound modules are needed - but the best are out of date. I'm looking to add my own samples and soundfonts to a General Midi set. Do you have any thoughts, though?
my thoughts are: millions of people are making music on computers everyday and it is the current standard. every effort you make to avoid this standard will only hold you back. your "respected sources" are not sources you should be listening to.
