This is an overly simplified rundown of the equipment needed to start saddle hunting. The purpose of this video is to list just those things essential to saddle hunting!
List:
1.) saddle
2.) linesman belt/ with carabiner
3.) tether/ with carabiner
4.) climbing method of choice
5.) platform of choice (semi-essential)

This is fantastic information. I've been looking at videos for months now and I've been timid about pulling the trigger on a few kits because I couldn't decide what was necessity and what was add-on/wants for getting into saddle hunting. I do see how the brake/lock on the carribeener would be exceptionally helpful and useful.

Always connect to your tether BEFORE climbing onto your platform of choice....

If you wouldn’t need a platform to hunt I’d be in it 💯 but you still have your steps your harness your “stand” and also all kinds of ropes and gadgets ! Wts the point? Just use ur loc on

All my equipment I use now weights 9lbs total, that’s sticks and all! With the exception of camera gear of course! This setup is just easier and more streamline in my opinion, and I’m actually more comfortable and have more mobility around the tree! To each there own, I just much prefer this system!

Pro tip: Tie a knot in the tether below your kong duck or ropeman. This will act like a backup incase that cam fails for some reason. (Credit to some pro, not me)

Ot isn't the safest way you can climb, that's a huge lie about saddle hunting , look at accusers involving linemans belts , you will get messed up if you fall even with a linemans belt on , a linesmans belt does not arrest a fall .

How did you Powercord wrap that platform. Looks amazing and give you a look for when your climbing
@everydaysportsmen
@everydaysportsmen 3 года назад
Thomas MacDonald it’s cobra weaved across the whole front, and cobra weaved through the center where the post makes contact! It makes it completely silent, and gives enough texture you can easily feel it with boots on to know where the edge of the platform is at. Thanks for watching!

I have some laying around I just don't wanna start and end short. You remember about how much cord it took you?
@everydaysportsmen
@everydaysportsmen 3 года назад
Thomas MacDonald I honestly don’t. I think I measured the length I wanted to cover on the platform and tripled it in paracord so if it was roughly 15 in I cut 45 in of cord

For safety, always have a rappel rope and gear if climbing trees on whatever method is used. Also learn self rescue techniques and have the extra gear to do self rescue. JRB Climbing has a good explanation for self rescue for climbers

Thanks for the feedback! I am a level 2 certified rope rescue technician, so I’m professionally trained in rescue techniques and rappelling! (Career Firefighter) this is good advice, thanks for watching!
@nelsonlangub3086
@nelsonlangub3086 Год назад
Yep, we also have high angle rescue teams on our workforce. My hard lesson learned was a condition where I slipped on my tether to the furthest point and couldn't get back up to my climbing stick. Able to recover, but taught me that I better have a lifeline that reaches all the way to the ground, so my full length climbing rope is my tether. I've seen other issues of being in danger from climbing stands or saddle hunting with just a short tether and lineman rope way up high, with gear failure and no way back up or down.

Can I use a MadRock safeguard on an 8mm tether?
@everydaysportsmen
@everydaysportsmen Год назад
The MadRock is rated down to a 8.9mm rope for climbing. (8.1mm for rigging/rescue) I’d try and stick with a 9mm and larger. I’m not saying it wouldn’t work, but I wouldn’t recommend it!

Saddle is not for everyone. It’s certainly not new. It started in the late 70s died out and is making a bit of a comeback. I don’t like it. Very uncomfortable Imo New mobile stands are the size of a lot of saddle platforms. I’ll take a stand and sticks all day.

@@everydaysportsmen I was skeptical at first, but it was world changing. It opens up so many more trees, and you aren't limited To just the trunk. Using a preset, I walk up to my tree and I'm at hunting height within 90 seconds with almost no sound. And it's very safe. You are pretty much on a long tether the entire time. (Super light too)
