Outstanding video! I started gaming in 2020. At 76, this is the biggest challenging game I've played so videos like yours are very very helpful. Thanks for taking time to make and share.
@@SaxSlaveGael You deserve a LOT of credit for making and sharing videos like this. Please believe me when I say that at 76 I so admire skilled players like you that are able to play so smoothly and react so quickly. You commented that you "panicked" and dodged backwards. I share your sentiments. I think a lot of my issues with this particular game is panicking then making a wrong and deadly move. When I watch videos like yours, everything seems to slow down but when I play things appear to speed up (PANIC???). Later tonight I plan to fight this boss so, if the only tip that helps is to remember to dodge left or right and NOT backwards I will be happy!
@@runnerpsu that's awesome you're gaming at 76. Even at 27 this boss is very fast and very hard. I'm sure this game is great for keeping the mind sharp, it forces you to keep learning new ways to solve problems
Dude this is the kind of guide I want when I google how to beat a boss!! You're awesome! Everybody else's content is like use mimic tear +10 and these 7 consumables, wiggle your thumb stick left and right turn around 3 times and jump attack to activate a glitch that will stun lock the boss in the corner and make him shit his pants for 7 seconds. Simple, clean, effective. Well edited. Well narrated. You are super underrated!
The algo generally promotes that stuff because that's the market. A lot of people don't want to learn, rather they want to make it easier. It's why my channel performs so poorly in comparison. Absolutely appreciate the comment. Makes it all worth it.
The fact that he's your favorite boss really explains why your fights against him are so flawless. Once again you helped me beat yet another boss. Thank you.
I feel like I just watched a nature documentary crossed with a game guide. This was AMAZING! Looking forward to beating phase 2 with this breakdown and guide.
Thanks for this! I've found Maliketh to be the second hardest boss in the game for me. I'd get super frustrated with Gurranq moving away from me and with Maliketh's "win button" sword dance explosion. So basically, dodge side to side for Gurranq and dodge forward for Maliketh
In a basic sense, yup! That's pretty much it! Dodging into Beast Clergyman isn't a good strat, as he has far more aggressive, where Maliketh is the total opposite and is less aggressive. 😁
Wow. What an amazing video. I hope it becomes a series. It's so great to see these glorious bosses move in slo-mo. I can't wait for Malenia ;) thanks for sharing all this
On my first run 2 years ago, Maliketh was my first Major brick wall. I lost count of the hours I sunk onto him. Every run even up until NG+7 was difficult. So don't worry, I truely understand which was the main reason I made this video 👍
Thanks heaps! I will definitely consider doing more at some point. They're just extremely time consuming and I think I may explore other formats that focus purely on moves, rather than capturing and detailing it in a single battle. This took about 8+ hours of editing over 2 months btw lol.
Great video! Have been watching a lot of no hit videos for learning bosses' movesets and correct ways to get in hits without taking damage myself. Those are helpful but your video is way more efficient for learning. I can imagine how much effort you've put into editing. It's probably why there aren't as many breakdown type of videos around, this is much appreciated!
super well made video, i love how you go in-depth with all the specific dodge timings and slow down the footage to show exactly when you are dodging and performing certain moves. I wish there were guides like this for all the really hard bosses in the game like this one.
LOVED THIS! Gurranq/Maliketh is one of my favourite bosses too, and I've found him an absolute joy to beat on rl1 no damage. Once you properly learn this guy, you become like a machine, it's great, I just love it. Seeing everything narrated and showcased like this is just really satisfying, even for a player who has been way too obsessed already like me XD
My pleasure man! I haven't seen many fully break down how to do it so thought I'd give it a try! I found Maliketh really overwhelming first run for sure, but agreed once you learn his moves he becomes very enjoyable, especially on RL1 or lower leveled weapons.
Dang, that's awesome that you beat Maliketh no damage at rune level 1. And here I thought I was an awesome gamer by beating Maliketh at rune level 1. Certainly didn't do it no damage though 😅
Seriously, this is the best FromSoft boss guide ever made. I was looking for this sort of stuff to cut down the time I needed to learn a boss. Not just showing a win, but actually pausing and showing exactly when and how to dodge and stuff. I commend you and I wish I could like the video more than once. Here's hoping more people make more guides like this.
That's really kind man thank you! I wish I had the patience to make more like this as I've had a lot of people say similar things. The editing for videos like this is just exhustive lol.
@@SaxSlaveGael I hope you know that we really appreciate them. Your guides are more entertaining and make me more pumped to actually try to beat the boss and is the only reason im not dropping the game rn XD
This video helped me so much! I went from never being able to get him below 3/4 health to not getting hit even once during phase 1, thank you. Genius guide, well done!
This is great! Especially since I just started off on my New Game plus adventure 😊 I'll be sure to reference this again when I make it back to this point! Thank you for this 💖
I'm sure you'll conquer it well enough, Hevs. You've already achieved the quite difficult already. Making remarkably beautiful characters in a Souls Character Creator! haha
I honestly didn't feel the 21 minute runtime of this video, it felt so natural since he was so caring with how to time the dodges and what the cues were, keep it up!
Really good breakdown of the bossfight! I believe there are two attacks in phase 1 that are missing in this video: Sometimes he slams his dagger into the ground on his right and drags it in a circle to his front left. Dodge timing for the attack is not very difficult, and it's also possible to strafe behind him (CCW). Another attack occurs when you get to close within the dagger flurries, where he pauses for a brief moment, moving a step backwards and the do a double swipe. I believe this can be dodged in any direction and completely avoided when controlling the distance correctly, for example by performing the dodge patterns as shown in the video.
Thank you so much bro. I was melee only using Bloodhound fang (high damage) and yet this guy took me almost 50 tries. Thanks so much. May God bless you.
Amazing video, I usually beat him by tanking and trading hits with him in the first phase cause I never knew go to find openings, I cannot wait to get this skilled in his move set like you in this video, this is amazing
Doing a lvl 7 (because that's what the Barbarian starts with) run with the Greatsword and have been stuck on Maliketh, haven't beaten him yet but this guide is already helping a lot!
amazing video mate, i love the choice of music. i am currently playing reforged mod at master diffculty and he made me insane, since on normal u can always brute force him. but your guide worked Miracles for me.
One thing I've found about Phase 1, his 2nd last Dagger flurry can be jumped-attacked over, and his big dagger slam is slow enough that you can still move backwards to use an Ash of War. A second is that when in phase 2, Maliketh's spin attack can be avoided optimally by dodging forwards and to the left. It causes the second swing to stop before it hits you, and you'll have enough time to do a slow attack. For his anime flurry attack, if you're able to pre-empt it, you can simply run forwards and to the right, hugging Maliketh. The first sweep's hitbox doesn't register that close to him (and to the right), so you can get behind him for a strong attack.
Crazy how before I saw this I could only beat him with summons and an op build and I just did a no hit + 0 weapon he’s the only boss besides Margit and radagon im able to beat like that. Amazing guide literally amazing
At 12:25, when he's about to do this move, I've seen some people alternatively dodge forward on this move and right before he slams his sword in the ground, they get behind them to get easy hits. I've been doing this for a while now, but I never knew you could dodge backward for I thought the AoE attack would just roll catch the player because of the size of the attack. However, you showed me that there was another way of dodging that move which i greatly appreciate because I still have some trouble fighting him every NG+. Overall, great video though. This really helped me improve my gameplay. I hope there are more video like this to come.
My pleasure man! Glad you found it helpful. I often do that dodge you are referring to aswell. I just sometimes have a poor time doing it on Medium load, and the reason I didn't showcase that specifically is the way I detailed it is such a simple yet highly reliable way of dodging it. And I actually discovered it by accident when I originally recorded the game footage!
on my first playthrough i though maliketh was one of the most unfair bosses ever and i remember beating him with a mimic. for my next playthrough, i went solo for all bosses but still didn't feel satisfied beating maliketh and malenia while using moonlight greatsword. now i just finished an ng+ run and using ur guide i was eventually able to have probably the best and almost hitless battle against maliketh with powerstanced straight sword melee build. 10/10 best guide for any soulsborne game i have ever seen.
13:56 you can roll backwards if you’re in a tight spot and his last charged attack will leave him rendered and you can land some more hits. This guide was what I needed, especially the timing for that black wave slash when he hits the ground.
Very helpful vid for a lot of people, I imagine. Definitely would've helped me if I hadn't learned all of it just binging your vids, lmao. One move I noticed wasn't in this vid unless I'm just blind and missed it, is the wide sweep attack Gurranq does from left to right. Love sprinting around to the right, getting behind him, and getting a fully charged heavy attack when he does that. Maybe he didn't do it because of the specific dodges/positioning you were showcasing.
Damn it I think your right! I did miss that move! But you're 100% right its all to do with positioning. I just use the same strat as the dagger slam, and just walk backwards. Wish I finished this earlier, but this was a nightmare to edit
The slow overhand slam at 8:25 can be followed-up by Destined Death (12:25). For this reason I don't like to overcommit to this window despite the potentially large opening. You can poke during the overhand and if he does do Destined Death, sprint behind him and use that as your big opening. Because you were already underneath him, it's very easy to reach the safezone behind him.
Very informative and very nice to watch would definitely love to see more on the rest of the bosses. But if I might ask for a specific boss fight to do I'd appreciate it if you did Soldier of Godrick, since day one I still haven't beaten him and it makes me zad...
@@SaxSlaveGael I practice a lot but I still cannot compete with your level of skill So as a fellow gamer I have to say you are incredible and I aspire to try even harder💫 Keep up the great work 👏 👍 💪
@@dragonslayer7084 Doesn't. Matter what your skill level is at man! As long as you enjoy what you do, who cares! And trust me, there's better things to do than invest the insane amount of time I have trying to git gud at this game 😁 But I am so humbled you found this inspiring 🤜🤛
I used Greatshield and Claymore phase one, then two-handed the Claymore phase two. The Greatshield that you can get from the Knight at the starting area (4% drop rate) blocks 100% of attacks and 90% of skills in the Beast Clergyman phase.
You did it! You said it was going to cover it all-yes, wow. So now I just need to finish these other games so I can go almost beat ER again and tell you how much better I do on Maliketh? Haha? Because last playthrough was my first time no ashes and that was really hard and a big deal for me. The music is beautiful and I love this boss-I think he may tie with Morgott for the boss that tugs at my heartstrings. Thanks for doing this guide 🙏
I forgot you made this but I’m back! How could I forget?? So many DS deaths. Now I’m on my ER pure caster build and hit a wall with this boss today. Looked up guides: nothing for magic. General search and here we are. I have first phase down now. He has the two openers and it’s just random, right? He will charge or just come slowly? I can get him staggered pretty quickly and usually a second time but will stop since that triggers second phase and I haven’t had time to learn it. I was on faith/heavy last time. I’m definitely backing away to my doom 2nd phase. Hmm.
Awesome video! in normal playthrough i never really thought to learn any of maliketh's moves but i generally liked him as a boss.....though sl1 forced me to learn his moves💀still enjoyed it do lol
I appreciate this so much, but time. This took 30 hours to edit and some bosses are a bit less predictable, so I'd need to change the structure. But look I am getting this a lot lately, so will consider it. Especially when the DLC drops 👍
Slowly but surely, my man, we will convince this community to those yet unswayed, that Maliketh is indeed, the best boi. Alternate Dodge for Destined Death: Dodge the initial sweep, sprint to your right diagonally, and roll again as he plunges his blade into the ground and you should have an opening for melee attacks. This is a move I've used in a number of my fights with Maliketh, including two stand-alone fights in NG+7, one with the Wing of Astel and one with the Magma Blade. Both fights are roughly 2 minutes in NG+7 at RL150, so anyone uses those builds in a lower NG would likely kill Maliketh in a minute or less.
Yeah I use that regularly too! I only didn't showcase it because it's slighly more complex, and I F it up all the time on med load lol. But yeah Maliketh's amazing! And the number of posts I've seen asking, where the hell are actual move set break down for him prompted me to make this.
@@SaxSlaveGael You know, what's ironic is I don't ever mess up dodging Destined Death but do occasionally mess up simple things like the DD blade projectiles, or his first phase combo into his slams or hell, even Beast Claw. haha. Yeah, a lot of people lose their minds over Maliketh, Mohg, Malenia and Radagon and while they are all complex movesets, I find them pretty comprehensive once you've learned them. It is Morgott who I only just recently started getting a firm grasp on.
@@SaxSlaveGael I watched back footage from my Bloody Crow, Sister Friede and the current long form I'm working, the Flame of Ambition (Claymore Str/Faith Blade and Buff build), and I've learned his moveset is pretty limited when you get to his left side and back, he becomes pretty vulnerable. Thing is, unlike most bosses, he has like, 4 fail-safes to make it so you get away from his side and back, a back step, his cartwheel, a slash and jump or his tail swipe. I'm trying to figured which ones trigger when. His Phase 2 is generally more predictable, I also really love that the lore matches his fighting style. He is not used to using Cursed Blood powers and his Cursed Blood Slice and Cursed Blood Stab (his grab), while powerful and dangerous moves if they land, leave massive openings which show his inexperience compared to Mohg.
It cause the video is so late to its relevance. Would probably have much more views if I uploaded months after ER released, instead of years lol. This took hours to edit lol.
A pretty great idea for a video, as these guides can be quite helpful for players. And speaking off, how about a Maliketh cosplay-build? Maliketh's armour, Maliketh's Black Blade, a seal for casting the Black Blade Incantation and maybe Golden Vow and Flame Grant Me Strength, and do a run-in of the bosses? You'd think the Holly damage would be an issue, but the health reduction effect and health sap count for a lot.
A destined death type build is definitely on the list. I have been testing one out against Malenia (the boss I usually start these videos on). And was having a rough time no hitting. But we'll get there!
Amazing video! As a new player , pure dex build, i really appreciate your breakdown of his move set. I tried him last night and barely did 1k dmg (my main weapon does 700dmg on a single hit) 😅😅😅
It's all good! When I first faced Maliketh he was so overwhelming and easily spent 3 hours on him. So its totally understandable! But am glad this was helpful!
Whenever I hear someone saying that ER bosses never stop attacking, or have bs impossible to dodge moves, or "forces" you into changing to a specific build I reference your channel to them.
I appreciate that! I've always assumed this take are from people who are fresh to souls series. Losing to a boss for 2-3 hours straight on your first go, is kind of normal. Lol. Learning the patterns is a key part. Something people on the ER Sub don't seem to understand...
@Sax Slave Gael I was one of those people who thought bosses never seemed to stop attacking even though I played all the Souls games prior. Learning boss movesets have always been a thing for sure but on my playthrough of the older games I could always tell pretty well the timing of attacks and there were definitely longer downtimes/openings between boss attacks. I think ER plays very similarly to previous Souls if you were a no-hit gamer or tried SL1. ER is optimally played when you attack between boss combos which I didn't get until after my first playthrough. Then it's very much a game of beautiful rhythm and dance-like similar to Sekiro. I consider ER a combo of Souls and Sekiro.
@@OzzyBlazeGaming some bosses definitely have fluidity built into like Sekiro, where others are definitely more souls. Dragons, larger enemies. And morgott + Godfrey who have massive run away like combos.
Don't forget that you need to keep dying (retrying) so you have a better understanding and muscle memory of his attacks and patterns. I learned that after fighting every enemies in the game with parry (or dodge etc if it can't be parried).
BTW u can dodge this attack 2:28 by dodging towards the claws thing the nails I don’t know what is it but u can dodge forward it’s much easier than jumping and if u close u can get some hits
I really had to learn his moveset to overcome Maliketh on my rune level 1 stream. I didn't use the blasphemous claw because Recusant Bernahl gave me more trouble than Maliketh himself lol.
Thanks Zott! I appreciate the comment yesterday which motivated to finally finish it off. I think If I did Malenia someday, I'd format the video a bit different. As this video totally pushed my hardware to the limit. Almost couldn't produce the project as my app kept crashing!
@@Zorbygaming It's honestly fine, I didn't take it that way anyway. Have had way worse stuff commented in the past 🤣. And I totally get the frustration.
