None of this video constitutes medical advice. If you are sick, please contact a medical doctor.
All of the locals around here know how to treat poison ivy. You harvest and use a plant called Jewelweed (sometimes called Touch-Me-Not) and it clears up this painful and agonizing rash FAST!
You can use it to make:
1. Just rub the plant on the rash (works good)
2. Salves (works good)
3. Drink as a tea (works better)
4. Drink as a tincture (works super fast)
5. Apply topically as a tincture (works super fast)
If you want to beat poison Ivy and do it fast with the least amount of torment possible, THIS is the plant you need to get. Creation often times gives us the plants we need to treat certain ailments and in this case, they grow RIGHT next to each other.

I just turned 62 and for the first time in my life I got hit with poison ivy. My sisters and children always had a problem with this plant, but not me. Last year I was knee deep in it pulling it off the house and nothing. This year 1 small vine, wearing gloves, and yes I even came in and washed up immediately afterwards, within 3 days I noticed a weird dark spot on my arm and the itching started and well I am going crazy. I have been using acv, baking soda, bentonite clay even zinc oxide along with oatmeal sponge washes, nothing still new blisters showing up and the damn oozing. I am going outside right now to look for jewelweed. thank you so much for this video. by the way I do not trust the medical profession they have lied to us about everything.

I grew up calling it Touch Me Not. You can rub the sap on the affected area and it will dry up the blisters in a day. That's from personal experience.

The "exploding" seed pod is why it is called Touch-me-not, by some. My mother taught me to recognize it and as a child, I had much fun popping the seed pods!

I need to brag on my gardening skills for a minute. I am highly allergic to that stuff. I have been pulling that stuff up out of my yard for years. This year, while gardening, I threatened to enter it into the county fair as it was looking nice in my yard. Turns out I've been growing and pulling RASPBERRY shoots. Now that I let it go I have some cute little raspberries growing. Thank you for taking the time to share your life and knowledge with us.

I took an herb class in 2006 and was introduced to jewel weed for the first time. According to my instructor, drinking jewel weed tea as a preventative from poison ivy used to be quite common. A few people didn't react well and now, in WV at least, it's only recommended for topical use.
@elizabethclaiborne6461
@elizabethclaiborne6461 4 года назад
The traditional use is strictly topical. This guy is literally pushing magic potions. The science attributes the rash drying properties to Saponins, which require topical application. It’s used for all sorts of rashes. Tea likely came from tinctures, which were literally a shot of high proof alcohol through the day. Medicinal buzz, not medicine. The old days were rough.
@terrymouse77

I used to get Poison Ivy all the time, until my aunt made a tea from Jewelweed for me. To this day (50 yrs) I yank it from my yard and I never get a rash.

Hey Zach, I was told a secret a few years ago, about making tinctures. You should always start a tincture at the New Moon, and strain it during the Full Moon. Just as the moon pulls the tides, it also pulls the good stuff out of the plant, to get a better tincture.
@Anamericanhomestead
@Anamericanhomestead 8 лет назад
Interesting...could be something to that. I'll wait till just after the full moon to strain it.
@elizabethclaiborne6461
@elizabethclaiborne6461 4 года назад
No. The moon controls tides. It has nothing to do with ethyl alcohol dissolving fat based chemicals. Science makes fantastic tinctures. Ever taste vanilla extract? Made with zero attempts at sympathetic magic. This is not the Middle Ages.

@SuperParksFamily
@SuperParksFamily 8 лет назад
Great to know, thanks for sharing! I wanted to mention that Stinging Nettle is your friend! Don't let it become a nemesis! It's natures multi-vitamin, for real! If you blanch the leaves it will remove the sting. If you like the taste you can use the leaves as a salad base or make a tea, or even better, an infusion. It can be tinctured too, but we love a good cold infusion 'round here. The seeds and root are also beneficial - we're talking overall health promoters. I wouldn't recommend you shake hands with it, but do let it into your friendship circle ;-)

Will Parks My friend had excéda over her entire body for years, even in her eyes and ears. She drank nettle tea, by the quart, for a week and her skin was fresh and clear. From time to time she would get a scaly patch, drinks a couple of cups and be clear again. Me, I tried it for allergies, but there was too much soluble iron in it, I have a genetic thing where I can’t deal with iron well, but it just made me tired. So, I drank dandelion tea and all allergies went away. Once a year cure.

GREAT VIDEO! In a rural area...the yard is FULL OF IT here. I never had it until 3 years ago. MERCY! That is some wicked stuff. I have had it 3 times this year. I must go look around for this plant!! Thank you!! This lady at the farmer's market saw me with it earlier this year and told me to try this when I KNEW I was going to be around it. She said to rub myself down with coconut oil (any oil might work I would think) on all exposed skin. It keeps the poison ivy oil (oak, sumac, whatever) from adhering to the skin. Once poison ivy oils are on your skin it doesn't just wash off with soap and water. You have to SCRUB it like you have grease on you or something that you are trying to get off. This is why people get it even after washing up. You have to scrub! I sure am going to look for this plant!!! So appreciate the info!!
@tkramar6372
@tkramar6372 8 лет назад
Good tips. I use hand cleaner like Goop that's made to break down oil. Works great if you can get to it quickly. If the poison ivy oil has time to soak into your skin there's no way to remove it. I also am going to look for this plant.

The seed pod is why it's called, "touch me not" because if you touch it, it explodes. A common impatience from the nursery does the same thing.

I have never been allergic to poison Ivy. I can rub it all over my body. I don't think I've ever been dunked in Jewelweed, however.

Dude, you don’t know how to do the poison ivy scrub? Works every time. Within four hours of being exposed, remove all clothing and put in washing machine, ready to wash in hottest water possible after your scrub. Then with two wash cloths, and hot water in a shower, scrub your entire body vigorously with soap and one cloth. Then rinse. Repeat the scrub with the second washcloth. The friction of the cloth, along w the soap and water, gets rid of the oil. Then wash that load of dirty, exposed clothes. Also, wipe your tools, boots and gloves down with alcohol. Promise you won’t get but a dot or two anytime your exposed if you get it at all. You’re welcome.

Over 50% of my body is covered in a poison ivy rash right now. was doing a favor for this woman, removing a wooden sun shade over her patio, it was covered in vines, so had to use the chainsaw to cut it up, mission accomplished 😖😖😖

Bless you! My friend did the same favor once and freed one lady’s ‘dead’ fruit trees from these life sucking vines. Likely was poison oak. The trees flourished full of fruit, like never before, but he ended up in an emergency room with huge second degree burn blisters! Three doctors had to evaluate.

I just came across your video on the touch me not plant. Do you know where i might be able to get some seeds to grow this plant. I am highly allergic to poison ivy. I get it sometime at least twice a year. It last anywhere from 6 to 8 weeks for me. I have to go to doctor and get medication to help with the effects. I am just now getting over a case of it right now.

The video ends at about 13:25 mins… Didn’t know if you wanted to edit, as the shorter the video the more the views in general (at least by people like me)…😋🤷🏻‍♀️

Does it have a tiny orange bloom later in summer ?

You have that fuel still, you might try distilling the essential oils from Jewelweed. Might be a better solution for those who don't want the alcohol.

You can always apply it topically if you don't want to drink it. I'm told that it will work very effectively that way too.

Yep, just thinking about long term storage, vs. drying the plant.
