I literally watched this movie yesterday, I love how the actors made you question whether they were telling the truth about the world's apocalypse or were they just lunatics.
The movie would’ve been better if they were just lying because I was expecting some crazy conclusion to the movie but instead it was just a predictable boring ending a shame

In the book it ends with them fighting over the gun, and accidentally end up shooting their daughter, but they still have to kill one of them because the daughter's death was accidental. However, they decided to not kill another family member, so they just sat down, and it's a mystery if the world would've actually ended.
@@christianyepez1016 not really, when I ended the movie I was like, there's no way it ends like this... it literally just ends up like it was already assumed from the beginning, nothing happens, there's no twist no anything, it just goes the most basic happy ending ever... it just felt such a waste of time and boring. At least that ending would be remarkable and cause an impact, this one does nothing at all, since it was the most obvious expected thing ever.
All of his points are nonsense doomer/helicopter parent type BS though. Plus everything mentioned in that section besides the animals and plants stuff are basically non existent possibilities in the context of the scene in question, it's not night time, she isn't so far she could be lost, they haven't abandoned her in the woods, she isn't injured or out of earshot etc. The points don't sound reasonable they sound like ramblings of a hypochondriac parent who considers their kid at relative risk of dying unless within immediate reach and inside with air conditioning and a snack.

Would you say that Sabrina yelling and running towards Andrew while he was brandishing a gun was her sacrifice? Otherwise, that was pretty fucking stupid on her part.
Technicalities, but I'd argue their whole point of not hurting any of the sacrifices ended when Eric was hit in the head to concussion level injuries. Not to mention the psychological trauma they're imposing on poor little Wen
I think the way they had it was their rule was they could not kill any of them as they had to sacrifice within the family. They did not want to hurt them just on a human level of not wanting to hurt an innocent person if avoidable. However, the end goal of saving the world meant hurting them explicitly to maintain the plan could be okay but not desirable. I dont think they had any real strict rule on harm. I'm sure the rope bindings also wouldn't feel great.
@@samthompson3714 That, and the fact that Leonard said he would shoot them in the legs so they couldn’t leave the cabin. Pretty sure the whole deal was that they just needed to be capable of making the choice themselves; their physical/mental condition is irrelevant to that.

Another thing about tsunamis that probably everyone already knows anyways, but in case not: before tsunamis make landfall the water retreats back into the sea, revealing seabed that shouldn't be above water. At that point there's only some minutes left to make an escape, but still more time than visual confirmation of the waves.
It's a classic sign, but it's important te note that there's only a 50/50 chance of the trough being the first part of the tsunami to arrive, when that's not the case and the crest is first to make landfall, the sea won't recede before tshtf.
@@zbz5505A When people think of a wave, they usually only think of the crest (the "hill" of water) but the trough (the "valley" next to the wave) is also part of it. If the trough of the Tsunami reaches the coast first the water will recede before the business part of the tsunami arrives, but in about half of the cases, the crest will make landfall first. So the water receding is indeed a good indication that you should (quite literally) run for the hills, but if the water doesn't recede, it doesn't mean there won't be a tsunami.
@@Marinus_Calamari the reason I heard is, the water recedes before tsunamis since large waves are basically massive accumulations of water. So the water is not near the coast bc it's in the ocean and will return when the tsunami arrives. That being said, I'm not an expert and considering it's a matter of life or death I will keep this in mind.
This movie is based on a book called The Cabin at the End of the World by Paul Tremblay. The ending is very different from the movie: *SPOILERS IF YOU WANT TO READ THE BOOK!* In the book, Wen is actually killed by accident when Andrew and Leonard struggle over a gun. They say her death is not a sacrifice as she was not willing, but at the end of the book, no one makes a sacrifice. Eric and Andrew carry her body back to their car and decide to stay together through whatever happens.
@@patricksimon3431 the thing is you don't know if the world will end or not because the book doesn't explicitly show that, which is just way better & thought-provoking than the movie ending. Oh how M Night Shyamalan failed to not disappoint this time.
Grew up in Colorado on a mountain where the nearest neighbor was like half a mile away. It was nothing but dense forest. Multiple bears came into our garage, decks, etc. famous for having an old lady who fed bears and then was mauled to death by them. Yes the woods are no joke. I don’t care how experienced you are. found it odd every time the doomsday people killed one of there own that is when things started happening so it really seemed like they were the cause of the destruction
They said if everyone doesn’t do their part, the world ends. So if they’d have not sacrificed themselves, or killed one of the others, that storm at the end would’ve immediately come in. They completed the sacrifice to protect their own loved ones, the immediate incidents were warnings.

As an avgeek, that last point with the plane crashes would have been enough to convince me. Knowing how safe flying is, seeing planes fall out of the sky around the world all at once would spook the hell out of me to the point where I would make a sacrifice instantly on sheer acute panic.

If they chose not to sacrifice anyone it’s not like they were going to live happily ever after while everyone else died. They were going to wander an empty earth regretting their decision while they watch each other slowly fade away. They were more screwed if they chose not to sacrifice a family member.

That is dumb. That is disloyalty. Your man and your kid BOTH matter before the entire world. Imagine thinking your man would want to "off" you instead. Too many women are particularly since recent years a disgrace to good wifehood. This is why there is decreasing numbers of manly-minded men offering commitment to women, and instead there is rampant single womanhood, single motherhood etc.
I loved the video. I do have one complaint. Ik planes fall out the sky but it’s a very rare occurrence and if all the planes just keep falling out the sky it isn’t pilot error. You saying you wouldn’t believe the story is false to me. Because after seeing thousands of planes crash land his story has become very relevant
I mean even the tsunami one is convincing. Yea the first earthquake happened 4hrs ago. But don’t forget the second earthquake that happened instantly and created the massive wave.
It's very important to recognize signs of disaster to survive. When it comes to tsunamis, a huge warning sign is the absence of water. If you see that the water is much lower than it should be, it's time to run.
Yep! One girl (~10?) saved a LOAD of lives because she saw the retreating water, recognized the warning sign from a recent lesson, and insisted that everyone was in danger.
I don’t know about everybody else, but I know if me and my wife are sitting out on the back deck I don’t care where we are. The kid is not just roaming freely out front.
spoiler would be interesting for you to have also explained what the 'horseman' could have done better to convince the people sooner so they could do their objective and minimise suffering. Like what psychological techniques could they do, and how could they truly confirm their visions. Perhaps to start, somehow show the family a live newsfeed of the diasasters via some satellite internet. And have each member in private write exactly what they saw, as well as explain to the survivors their beliefs of the supernatural, perhaps they recognised clues of this same doomsday a few years back etc
Idk, my bro. I'm usually with you on most of these. Not all of them, only bcz, they are so genius that I never would've been able to think of the ways to escape and avoid some pretty terrible and crazy movie circumstances/death. I agree with a lot of your points and especially for the thought process of each character. If what they weren't right about or was lying about didn't come true. But since it did, I feel like the rest of your points would not only not help, but could actually make things worse. I.e. when they killed Sabrina, Leonard ended up having to kill Sabrina off before time which, sped up the process to Leonard having to take his life. It seems like they had a day of consideration/ and per each doomsdayers. If so, that mean they had another day to try to out think of what to do about Leonard. But instead he was forced to self delete himself after Sabrina. And with all of the doomsdayers gone, they actually see that everything the doomsdayers said was indeed true. Killing them off sooner would've doomed the world and them much sooner. They ultimately didn't beat it and were literally forced to pick between the options the doomsdayers said they had. It'd be a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" like situation. There is no truly winning or beating this situation.
The video creator only cares about pyrrhic victories. All that matters that he is alive. Even if a hellfire was about to engulf him and the rest of the world, he'd still be like "don't care, I won".
It is possible for Malice to be somewhat an inverse of war. Given the fact that although war can be caused by malice, It is also possible for war to end malice as ironic as that may sound.
The part that Leonard seemed to predict the scripts of the news, may simply be because the same news was repeatedly played on TV, which is quite common nowadays on news channels.
Keep it up man, this video seemed to have your own unique style. I've never seen a video like this from you. It was different, and it was great. Keep it up
As someone who grew up in the mountains of the American northeast, I can't help but laugh as you make it sound like the most dangerous place on earth. The bears can be an issue, but otherwise it's not that dangerous, especially because most of us are raised to know the basics of avoiding things like ticks and poison ivy, oak etc. For an out of town person, yeah, more dangerous. But playing in the yard? Nah. It's not a parenting fail to let your kid do so.
@@NanaNaima1a lot of places up north have woods as their yards. Sometimes a few acres of it on their property. Playing in the woods that is your yard/property during the summer is completely common place. Tree forts get built, bugs get chased, splashing about in streams, games of hide and seek or tag- all an average summer day when you're surrounded by woods and there's not much else to do like when you're in less rural areas.
Even not in the north west if you're from anywhere that's secluded. When I was the girls age my friends and I played hide and seek in a massive forest in the dark.
It’s a fail because you’re describing growing up their and learning everything about the woods but these characters are from out of town and they’re letting their daughter just wander around with out any of the knowledge someone who grew up there would have. Plus like he said the biggest danger aren’t animals or plants but just straight up getting lost. A local would be able to find their way back to the cabin but for the girl who is only being there for the first time in her life it would be extremely easy to get lost
This just looks like the four people are the _ones_ who would cause the end of the world rather than just killing one of the 3 members of the family... Like all the disasters seem to be happening after the so called sacrifices. I wouldn't be surprised if they got visions of their deaths in order causing the end of the world, so they'd just want to speed up the process by getting the cure out of the way.
They are the harbingers of the end. At the end of every day, they give a choice, if they are refused, they kill one of their own to bring a plague. I believe that if they decided to not do that, the apocalypse would just begin with no time given to the family to decide. Also, I believe that they get partially possessed by their duties after every decision. The moment the family refuses, you can see their eyes glazing they just start acting on autopilot. After the sacrifice is done, they revert back to themselves.
Once had a couple of family members with shared delusions. They were married so "separating" them wasn't an option, but have other family live with them for a bit to stop their constant loop. It worked eventually.
I'm not an american and I don't understand americans concerned about their safety so they buy a gun but they can't easily access it if they're ambushed, what's the point of owning a gun in the first place, false sense of safety
This was a great movie, I saw the trailers afterwards and realized trailer #2 would’ve ruined the experience had I seen it, as it contained major spoilers….this movie is meant to be seen without any prior knowledge…the first trailer was OK, but trailers are really frustrating these days
I agree, especially if you're one of those that usually can predict things that will happen based on what you've seen so far...so some trailers have me like oh yeah, this is about to happen here.
for sure, I guessed to the plot to “the village”within the first 15 minutes, my ex girlfriend was mad at me because I “ruined the movie”’ but it wasn’t my fault, I could tell it was humans dressed up, and then I wondered about the motive, and it all immediately clicked, so that was actually my worst Shyamalan film, but yeah, I was like “it’s in modern day. They’re trying to suppress the villagers” ex girlfriend got so pissed 😆 sad part is I didn’t even need a trailer for that one, that’s why I consider it his biggest failure not financially, but storytelling wise, at least, in his other bad movies I didn’t know what was going to happen…
I have to say I love the vocabulary that How To Beat is using in this video! He's saying things like "getting caught lacking" or "having your piece on you" and even the brand new segment "YOU FUCKED UP"🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I absolutely love this channel!!!!
I feel like this is being said by people who will believe anything. There’s not a chance the majority of educated adults would believe this was anything other than a coincidence. The only reason they did was because of the concussed guys vision, which most adults would see as crazy talk. It’s like people just skipped the part of the video that explains this. He isn’t saying they should’ve let the world end, he’s saying rational people would be a little thoughtful but ultimately wouldn’t believe something so insane.
@@kirstybrown1185 im asking from a perspective of someone who hasnt watched the movie, and obviously I didnt know if they explained it at the end of things but I did understand how to beats points and personal preferences to the course of actions he discussed.
What would have happened if the couple would have made a decision to sacrifice one of the Doomsday people? They came to decision so wouldn't that have counted, instead of sacrificing one of their own family members? Or perhaps make it an easy decision, injure one of them to the point they're going to bleed out so that obviously you would sacrifice them before the world came to an end, before the other person died for no good reason. Vaniikos from an impossible decision to a super easy one.
They had to sacrifice a loved one. If they sacrificed a stranger then its not a meaningful sacrifice. And the 4 horsemen were already sacrificing themselves to prolong the apocalypse, so killing them off early would only jumpstart the end of the world
Wow, I am a huge Mindhunter fan, but I couldn’t remember where I recognized him from, it had been long enough since I’ve watched Mindhunter to where my brain didn’t make that connection until I just read your comment
This is actually an interesting premise for this sort of genre. The horror isn't about torture or being physically over powered, it's psychological, about making a very tough decision. The decision for me though is easy. I'd do exactly what I do now. Tell god to fuck off. Any god that demands that sacrifice of innocents is not worth one appeasing, I'd rather see humanity end than have them grovel before such a being. Besides, a being of that power is going to do whatever they want regardless of what you decide, and will do what it wants with you when you inevitably die in the future. Might as well show that no matter what it threatens, you will not bend to evil.
My favorite horror movie is INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS and I have been brainstorming ways to "beat" that my whole life since seeing it. Like wearing a thick suit when sleeping so that the pod tendrils cannot touch my skin, taking brief naps in parking garages where there is no plant life close enough. Kidnapping a pod person and holding them hostage so that I can get them to the proper authorities and show that internally they are not human. PLEASE DO HOW TO BEAT INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS.
@@kelsey2333 It was SPEED not meth. I read some years ago that there is supposedly going to be another remake of Body Snatchers but it is in development hell as I read this like 6 years ago. Why the hell won't they do a "how to beat". By the way, in the 1978 movie when Donald Southerland's girlfriend got body snatched if I was him instead of running away from her pod form I would have AGREED. I would have said to her "fine, I will sleep right now" then I would have walked up to her and lied down on the ground pretending to get ready to sleep and I would have been tricky. I would have asked her to cuddle up with me to keep me warm and help me drift off. As soon as she does that, thinking that I am cooperating I would beat her to death. Due to how closely they copy people's physical attributes her strength would be equal to her human "host" and Donald Southerland was much stronger. I would do it quickly before she even had time to do the scream thing then I would continue to try to find a way out of the city to warn the outside world.
