I can't judge this film too harshly on basis of Paxton's survival being the surprise twist at the end though. Because it's an honestly unexpected inversion of the (as TV Tropes calls it) Cruel Twist Ending that we've come to expect from Hollywood these days. Like, surely a lot of us were expecting the car at the end to run them down or something like that. But nope, instead it reveals Paxton lived. Quite an unexpected inversion of a by now commonplace cliche, I must say.

Now I did have an idea about this. The curses are specific to each individual. Is it possible the curse also invokes certain urges or ideas in the victim to make full use of its trap? She was the one who figured out to avoid the trap by that method. It could be it pushes the idea in your mind, forces it upon you, to do as the reading predicts in order to force the deadly fate it has upon you?

It’s fitting that to beat the fool means by beating him at his own game. It was also a part of Paxton’s horrorscope to unexpectedly show up for his friends. But yeah if he did what we the audience wanted him to do he probably would have died for real since his roommate wouldn’t have opened the door for him last minute.

@@shinobukoko204The horoscope must have been fulfilled either way, it seems like the curse is bound to that rule too. I don’t think The Fool could have killed him as it would invalidate the prophecy. Unless The Fool is a separate entity, as if it’s some kind of hitman hired by the demon. Which seems plausible too. Besides that, I wonder what the name is of the demon, because it falls to reason that it isn’t that dead woman herself considering she seemed to have done a ritual that summoned some kind of demon.

At first, I did not believe on this comment because at the first half of the video and I thought Paxton died and I was confused, Paxton did not leave the elevator yet died only for the explanation to be appeared in like the last minute of the video. Considering the demon opened the door from the top, then the other door, the elevator door, is now open for someone else to open. If the demon went for him from the elevator doors then Paxton could have died. Either the demon is really a fool or Paxton cowardness gave him clever points.

Yeah that annoyed me as well (former fortune teller here) that movies and media always put such literal translations to the cards when the characters on said card have such a more symbolism. Yet the Tower, as you said, is the one that makes your blood run cold but is considered the solid safety according to media.

@@titliroy4713 The Tower shows the crumbling of the foundations or being hit by lightning which means for the individual their perceived security of assets are about to collapse, that could be friendships, work, monetary all the way to even ego. Something inside the building of the asset has failed and been terribly overlooked and is now the cause of the destruction of it. It is the card of tragic upheaval.

@titliroy4713 The tower typically represents destruction/calamity, but for readings can be interpreted more as premonition to adversity or something unpleasant. It's usual visual is a tower struck by lightning and set ablaze.

the card also said something about not acting on your impulses. this is paired with the fool (trickster) card and as you saw the fool likes to mess with their victims the most. you could argue his natural impulse would be to gtfo out of the elevator as soon as he could and that's when the fool would have got him but he was so scared he stayed in thus allowing his friend to enter the realm and save him since if we are going by the movie logic here. they can only effect YOU specifically and you must be isolated from everyone else. you could say it was super lucky and i agree with that but out of all the characters i think paxton's ordeal was the most well written since it fits in with the whole theme so well. The fool (trickster) is always seen as "being lucky" in various mediums

@@galacticstars_21 Ive never heard about the concept. However I imagine cards that have been "passed down" are considered to be yours. So under technicality dont violate that rule. If you are ever given tarot cards I would cleanse them first

I can’t speak for all branches of witchcraft because I don’t practice them, but Wicca is mostly on energy and intention and it’s got a big thing on will and consent. So if you cast a spell on someone against their will or consent, that’s not good. Love spells are a big no-no if there’s no consent from your partner.
