What is odd about the Purge films is they only seem to focus on two crimes: Violence and property destruction. But there are a ton of crimes people might break while not wanting to kill. I’d imagine Purge night would have a few street races, a large number of people buying, selling, and using illegal substances knowing they wouldn’t get charged, heck even people breaking indecent exposure laws. There’s a lot of crime between ‘law-abiding’ and ‘serial killer’ that isn’t really ever discussed or shown.
In fact is not that easy. Street races, drug selling, etc doesn't reward you enough for you to risk it dying. Things that could reward you a large prize like money or objects of value would paint a large X on your back on the next year, because the ones you robbed won't be exactly happy. Insider trading, cheating transactions, identity theft or anything that can reward you, well... Crimes are legal for everyone, not just for you, they can cheat you too, and they all could be traced back to you, so next year you're dead. Also there are international laws, so if you, for example. You want to expose your ex sex tape online tagging all her social medias? Hell, even posting on facebook if you want, like you tought of exposure laws? The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women will be on you, so after the purge ended, if the USA don't arrest you they would be conivent breaking an international law, so what would happen is that other countries would ask your arrest, and USA would need to deport you or arrest you even against their will. And believe me, you wouldn't want to be busted as a crime against woman here in Brazil, you will become the woman of the jail... If you know what i mean. You want to do some tax evasion? Nope, international laws don't let you do that. Thinking of one way to benefit yourself enough so that risking your life getting on the streets would be worth it, without breaking any international law or getting your back marked so that the next year you would definetly die it's not easy =\
Probabaly because no one wants to watch a movie about tax evasion. You mentioned indecent exposure but we both know there hundreds of thousands of rapes would be the bigger issue. No one is using their get out of jail free card to smoke weed outside.

Idk man, any followers who are already pro-purge would not care what Owens said, it would not change their minds of voting for him. If US politics have taught me anything, it's that people will vote for their "side" regardless of what the representative has done. This was my first purge movie (oddly enough) and I think it's actually a really good movie. Great video dude!
i love the purge movies. they aren't much on the grand scale of things but their underlying messages are so evident and true in our current political climate and every one of them sent those messages before similar politicians got elected in like cuomo and trump and others

@16:38, I would give the tracker to a wild animal, like a squirrel or a mouse, to throw the assassins off. Instead of chasing Leo and Charlie, the assassins are chasing wild animals and diverts attention away from the targets. While the tracker shows it's in a park, the REAL targets could be MILES away in another direction.
Purge in general: I'd get myself a good boat, go about 13-15 miles off shore and just chill. It wouldn't be worth the headache to try and chase me down out in the ocean.

Like my Dad said after seeing the Purge movies: The only way to 'win' the Purge is to ensure everyone loses. (He meant explosives, and not 'clean' ones).
I always thought the concept behind these films were a little bizarre because nearly everything that occurs in the plots goes against the typical nature of our society. I understand that this is also supposed to be taking place several generations down the line (despite using technology that basically exists now with a couple minor examples that are fictionalized), but just consider the amount of participation. The overwhelming majority of people would want absolute nothing to do with the Purge, especially in American society. We have always been reluctant to enter wars and there's always a strong contingent of people who are outspoken in their dissent of government sanctioned violence. And even though you do see a "resistance" faction consistently appear, it's important to note that these films always occur in urban areas. But when you consider that 90% of the country is rural areas, you just never really get to see that aspect of these nights. They really don't even focus on suburban areas much, either. Sure, the Ethan Hawk film was set in that environment, but it was still close to an urban area. But when you consider that about half of this country is staunchly opposed to any government action, there should be large groups of well armed, well armored citizens (especially former military and current/former law enforcement) stopping groups of purgers en masse. Most annoyingly of all is the way they categorize weapons without any further explanation and that certain groups don't have to follow any rules at all anyway. If an attack helicopter were tracking and firing on an HVT, why would they be using a Gatling gun (the Vulcan mini gun) and not any sort of rockets or missiles? You can bet your ass they'd be launching rockets into any buildings they please. Finally, the most important and constantly overlooked aspect of the Purge concept- with the entirety of urban centers being turned into warzones overnight, it's going to take a helluva lot more than 1 year to clean up and rebuild everything from those 12 hours of mayhem. Just look at how long it's taken to rebuild areas after the 2020 Black Summer riots. And that wasn't even close to this scale of destruction. I just find it silly because most people would either refuse to participate, or act only in defensive locations. Before anyone ever makes their way into any defended areas, they'd be killed long before they got to attack someone else.
As far as Hollywood is concerned, the only places that matter are the cities on the East Coast and the cities on the West Coast. How people in the countryside would realistically react to all crime bein' made legal one night a year would never cross their minds. Not to mention that most murders that occur on Purge Night would be done for personal reasons and that the biggest crimes committed on Purge Night would be sellin' contraband, not murder or arson.
Even if people participated it would mainly be so they can steal from stores to get stuff they want, I doubt half of society has the capability to just up and kill one another for sports unless that generation of people have been brainwashed and desensitized to it
I am not American and I have little fate in humanity so I don’t think most people will not want to be involved. Like I do think that those dressed up purgers are really stupid making themselves easy targets. But I feel like they have unsaid rules of purge like purgers feel a sense of belongings among themselves so they don’t tend to kill each other that much (unless it’s gang fights) they try to hunt those weak people refusing to purge. The peaceful rich people just hide in their well-secured homes. But I mean, if I can’t escape the country, I’d probably be a sniper hunting down those party purgers.

If I were Leo, I would have come up with my own plan to drug Roan and evacuate her myself. She would still have the plausible deniability that she didn't choose to be in a safe room, but she would get the protection that a safe room provides. He could do this around the time he is alone talking with her (about 22 minutes into the movie). Based on the next scene that Leo is in, he's talking with other security guys and a chief. If he has drugged and hidden her for a future extraction, it would just seem like she's in her office working. One of the security guys that actually works for the NFFA says to Leo " how'd the chat go?" So it's clear they still think she's just in there working. Leo could have some small talk, give some BS excuse to be out of sight or even doctor. The videos just like the chief just did so that he could have a clear exit.
That’s stupid, why would they announce a purge every year, so they’ll just let criminals out and commit murder on a day where crime is legal but what if a criminal breaks out of jail and he was originally in prison for murdering someone, they let him out on the day of the purge but after the purge they just let a mass murderer out scot free, what do they expect him to happily get back in jail and await for another purge?!? And what about death row inmates do they get out scot free during the purge since all crime is legal? This is confusing?!?
Why would they let criminals out in the first place? Criminals have no money, no tools and they better stay in the prison cause it’s safer than outside. Death role criminals are executed on purge night or sold to rich people who want to purge at home.
Actually there are countries when vbbreaking out of prison is legal. You won't be punished for breaking out. They still will try to stop you, they still ill try to catch you and if they do you still will have to serve rest of sentence. So literally this. Death row inmate would still be brought back if caught

It was national tragedy but from pov of purelly technical issues in control over country there are people who replace president if it happens. It's not like whole system collapses
Those kids have completely gone down the wrong path. They don't seem like adults, and have already tried shoplifting. They didn't even back down when someone caught them stealing. Not only were they shoplifting, but (this is baaaaaad) they commit murder. The worst part about it is that they were trying to kill the store owner because he gave them mercy and didn't call the police, and they KILLED THEIR PARENTS WITHOUT ANY SIGN OF REMORSE. There is truly nothing we can do to stop them from plummeting into their jail-time. They are a lost cause.
Yes. Like HOW EXACTLY they are supposed to do it? Body double would know she has very slim chance of surviving so you'd have to find somebody who'll take this job w/o real hope of ending up alive. Perhaps you could find body double with lethal dsisease who'd take ton of cash to ensure her family ifinancial safety after her death, but she'd know NFF want's Sentator dead so what stops her from double crossing and telling them about it? It's no risk operation. If Senator or Bodyguard realized she'd get money from NFF, possibly even more. If they didn't she'd get money from NFF and Senator.

After the announcement high ranking figures aren’t off limits I would have tried to get as many people as possible to form an alliance & go after the ones in charge of the purge.
Feel like surviving the purge wouldn’t be that hard. Get a rifle energy drinks body armor. Get on your roof or the highest point nearest to you. And get a group of people you trust to be there with you
