I didn't learn how to become a billionaire but I know that saying it's impossible unless you are a multi-millionaire isn't one of the steps.

Actually Jeff Bazos, along with lot of Billionaires have nothing to do with income inequality, their wealth is tied to the performance of their company via stocks. The better they can grow their company, the more people use it, the more money they earn, the better value shareholders get, the more the stocks grow, the wealthier they get. But, I can say, they could pay their staff a little more. Bezo's annual salary is $81,000.

To say that "the condition of your birth does not determine the outcome of your life in this country", or that "we're a nation of haves and soon-to-haves" does not entail a belief that everyone can be super wealthy, and the pop-culture quotes also are not examples of that. It can mostly be about a difference between being very poor and have a reasonable comfortable living, where you still have to work rather than just being able to live off earnings from interest and investments.

Sweden has more billionaires per capita than the US. Even though the power of the super-rich as a threat to democracy is a legitimate concern, one shouldn't have a simplistic view that is borderline hatred towards the wealthy. The Nordic states and other welfare states (all of which are not socialist, but market economies, by the way) policies alleviate or help prevent poverty, they don't do it by attacking the rich.

If I won a billion dollar lottery, I'd be the first person to donate 100% of a billion dollar lottery winning and I'd make it a billion and $1 just as an extra FU to capitalism! Imagine how wealthy you'd feel for the rest of your life after donating a billion and 1 dollars to those in great need. That's a kind of wealth one can never lose. :D

it's a bit confusing to mix in upward mobility with "becoming a billionaire" -- the two are not nearly the same thing. income inequality is getting thrown in as a catch-all term to compare the obscene wealth of the ultra-rich with the proletarian poor... often with little to no context. the real cause of class immobility is lack of opportunity: aka not having enough high-wage entry-level jobs to match the number of qualified candidates. this means that many graduates end up working in lower-end jobs and wasting precious work-hours _not_ earning relevant work experience. this not only slows down their potential career progression, but actually leads to a net regression as employers consider your relevant work experience vs age.

So why is nick not doing much but talking. If what he states inn the end is what he believes. I can only barely keep alive month by month. But I think on these social issues. I know one way in which these supposed millionaires and billionaires of moral character can help. Start a foundation that give the average person a leg up by offering a flat low interest non profit grants. Have the foundation collect the interests and also a small percentage feed feed back of profits to help other who are looking for the same leg up. This way the foundation's sustainability is self propetuating. And the foundation will create new jobs, business, vocations, and infrostructure. Add in people like me to think up things that others can purchase and start a new business. And you get solutions for the struggling masses.
