Seriously, anyone can become a computer "expert"!
• Check out Bitdefender Total Security 2020 here ⇨ www.bitdefender.com/media/htm... (sponsored)
It doesn't actually take much to become an "expert" at computers that can basically solve any computer or tech problem you come across. The big secret for every IT professional is not that they already know how to fix computers, but rather they are just good at Googling for the answer! In this video, we go over a few techniques on how to essentially find the solution to any problem by searching for terms that are most likely to return solutions other people have come up with about the same issue. With a bit of practice, you may never need to get tech support again!

Yep lol I'm thinking the exact same thing right now. This is a great video and he's 100% on point, but sadly if I sent this to my mother she would still find it too difficult to grasp. The idea of taking personal agency over fixing a technical error is so foreign to that generation it really is appropriate to call it "technophobia". They come from the days before microchips & sophisticated redundancies & throttling methods used in almost every electronic component today. They literally feel like pressing the wrong button will cause combustion - as I'm sure this was more of a commonplace thing when not using rudimentary electronics of the past correctly. It's very difficult these days to irreversibly damage your electronics by pressing the wrong buttons or giving it the wrong commands.

Delighted to learn I've been a 'computer expert' since 2000, when I googled my first PC problem. Yes, getting smart at net search strings is key. Everything you described, I've done. I'm sure I'm one of multitudes that learned this themselves, so I don't feel too special, but the validation is nice.

I'm also a tech support expert and I knew everything you said already but you missed a couple of things: 1- you should've pointed out to the voice search feature. I use it a lot when I can't copy-paste because it's faster and I like it, but many people (from the average joes) don't even know this feature exists! 2- and this is really very important and you should've DEFINITELY mentioned it, which is using tricks like the "quotation marks" and more importantly the minus - to exclude search results that are talking about something else and thus significantly narrowing down the results. This "minus" trick can really be helpful. 3- Also the "find" trick (ctrl+f) in a web page is really helpful if there's a lot of text and it would take you years to find what you're looking for in that specific web page

On the topic of turning it off a back on again when it comes to Windows... Because of Fast Startup, Windows doesn't restart the kernel when you click "Shutdown", where if you select "Restart", it actually will shutdown and restart the kernel. Sometimes Windows needs that kernel refresh to work properly.

Great content! Also important: don't worry you might break something! Just assume you won't, and if you should, it's reversible in almost any case. What also helps this mindset is renaming files/folders the recommended solution supposes you delete, and copy (backup) files you're supposed to change. You'll be a lot more confident "playing" with your computer on this level :)

Really good video, these are things that can be very intuitive for some people but for others its not so straight forward. However, I think you should have brought up "Event Viewer". It's a bit more advanced and not useful for every scenario, but for certain things it can be an invaluable resource. I've used it to solve more than a handful of problems over the years. It pretty much gives you a play by play of every connection, process or whatever is going on with your system, and marks errors and hiccups very clearly. Then you can right click it, select "search online" and find out exactly what that error or warning is related to and if there's a fix for it.

I have to admit (as Sysadmin) this Video is full of useful tips for non tech people and beginners 😉👍 But i still have some Google Tips for you 😉: You can exclude phrases by placind a "-" before it ( Problem -WLAN for example) if you already know it can't have to do with your problem... Everything including that phrase won't show up anymore! Second: You can require a word/phrase to be EXACTLY included by using "" (Problem "model" for example) everything that doesn't exactly include that word won't Show up! Third: you can combine these functions to exclude not just a Single word but entire phrases with spaces in them (Problem -"Audio Device") incase of a Audio Problem where you know the device itself is fine... There are even more of these functions (why not try googeling for them as Exercise 😉) Good day ya all 🖐️

You didn't talk about exact: - Googling text match searches by enclosing a phrase in double quotes, which can be useful to find the exact phrase (error message), not just a bunch of pages containing (largely) the same words - "do not find" terms. You should be able to put a minus in front of the words you don't want, e.g.: windows -microsoft Though it seems that this particular example doesn't work. It does seem to work for other terms, though.

Never been trained, just had 'a knack' for problem solving. Step 1: Yep, I do that first every time. Step 2: Yep, and your descriptions of what to Google look exactly like what I Google. Step 3: Mess with stuff until it works, yes! I love how you described the process though, that's also what I do. It's amazing how much intuition goes into this.

Thio, good guide. What you were describing is called issue triangulation. Try to isolate where the problem is which usually gives you the fix. There is one item you left out of the Google search parameters. In order to narrow down your search add the word "solved" at the end. HTH...

First, I am sharing this video with everyone in my family and many of my friends. This should free up some of my time. And, second, how about making this an app. As a long time computer user, I have always been frustrated that MS did not provide a Copy button on their error message. That would be the first task of the app. Then, using the pertinent info from the error message, do a Google search. And, finally, give the user a form to add the additional information that you mention. This would be a great boon to the computer user world. Keep up the good work.

I know a far amount about computers. I am in school for Web Development and I can tell you the actual names of some of the ports and connections for the computer. But, I can always learn more.
