Hi Training from0! You're right - there's a TON of information out there on the internet, and it's difficult to figure out not only what is correct, but also what info makes sense for YOU and your life. The path that one person takes into the game industry might be very different from another's. Here are two pieces of simple advice for you to get started with if you're interested in starting a career in games: 1) Start creating & collaborating with other people - trial and error is one of the greatest ways to see improvement. Don't be afraid to mess up and try again, and don't try to do everything all by yourself. Games are typically a team effort! 2) Find sources of information you can trust. RU-vid is great, but you want to make sure that you're getting info from industry professionals. At CG Spectrum we have over 150 mentors all over the world who are currently working in creative industries like games and film, and an online Slack community that students have access to where they can ask questions and get support for their own career. It's good to know that it's a trusted resource, but also that there are different people to talk to depending on your interests in the field, where you live, and what your goals are. Good luck!

Reminds of an interview of this profound indie film. Why switch to black and white at the critical moment? Our budget for color ran out. Okay, the dramatic scenery change? The land owner kicked us out. Oh! The Dialog was inspired! How you do that? Uncle Joe talks like that all the time. Were there any original ideas? We titled it, "Two Knights". But its marketed as "Two Nights in Paradise".

A lot of filmmaking comes down to adapting and improvising -- and making the best of what you've got 😂

Hello CG Spectrum - I'm very compassion about games, and I play games that are pixelated, and others but sometimes I just play games on my phone and most of the time on my mums laptop. I've been watching your videos and other people videos to see how to do it. So is any tips you can do a tutorial for me for what game editor' I should use first. Because I finished my exams about 2 days ago I really want to start from scratch and I can do it with my dad. Cuss he works in the dockyards. So how can I start doing a game and program it, so I can move the character.

Hi Slaywoof! I recommend you join us at our next Game Development discovery session in a couple of weeks, where our head of Game Design, Troy Dunniway, will be giving an insight into what game development is, how to get started, and answering all your questions live! You can check out the event and register here: www.cgspectrum.com/events/discover-game-development

@@slaywoof We're an online school, and one of the many benefits is that we are everywhere! As long as you have a good internet connection and a strong desire to create, you can study with us :) Our mentors are spread across the globe, covering most time zones. Classes take place via Zoom and are recorded, so they can be replayed anytime. It's a bit tricky to answer your question without more context, but the Game Development event I linked to you above is a great opportunity to speak directly with one of our mentors who has been making games professionally for over two decades. The event is free and open to everyone. You can ask about game programs, software, and more about kicking off your game design career. Hope to see you there! :)

what kind of studies you should have in uni to become a game designer ?( do i gor for computer science and then specialize ?)
@Cgspectrum
@Cgspectrum Год назад
Hi Ast Az! For a game designer it's always helpful to study any of these things depending on what their focus/strengths are: computer science/computer programming/software engineering/maths. For the more technical people who want to get into the programming/development side of things, writing or narrative studies/psychology/media & entertainment - for people more interested in storytelling for games or planning how to create content that will be relevant, enjoyable, and profitable. At the end of the day, a variety of non-game related courses can help you depending on how you approach the studies and try to relate the content back to games! i have so many questions. i want to apply to game design college but i’m not very good at math.. i’m a med high school student and i hate it, and i recently discovered game design career and realised it’s perfect for me. i don’t have really good grades and i really don’t know what to do. i know a few programming languages which i’ve learnt by myself and that’s it

Hi Nib! You've come to the right place ☺ Drop us a line at hello@cgspectrum.com to get in touch with our admissions team, who can guide you through what kind of prerequisites are good to have before starting in our Game Design courses. There can be a computer science/programming/software engineering/maths element to game design, but writing or narrative studies/psychology/media & entertainment are also helpful for people more interested in storytelling for games. You might find our career pathways page helpful to learn more about what it takes to become a game designer and what you can do within this area: www.cgspectrum.com/career-pathways/game-development Looking forward to hearing from you! :)

so as a video game designer do you just have to chose one out of the 4 designers or do you do all of them?
@Cgspectrum
@Cgspectrum 2 года назад
Hi there! There is no right path or choice. Begin by learning a bit of everything and see what you like and are good at. Everyone is different, some have better art skills, some are better at programming, some love to write and so on... find what you are passionate about and follow that! Though, being a generalist to begin with helps with your foundation. Hope that's helpful :)

I’m 17 years old right now and I’ve only recently become very interested in art so I’m still pretty beginner level. But I’ve always wanted to be a game designer, and the problem is I don’t know if I have enough time to become a great artist or at least good artist to start thinking about using a game engine or doing complex landscapes and characters designs. I do plan to go to college but that isn’t always enough. What I’m trying to get at is I’m just really at a loss of what I should do right now. Do you recommend anything?

Hi @wiltingrose3186! Great to hear that you're interested in game art and design. I would highly recommend you attend our next Game Design discovery session (or any other study area you're interested in) to get a basic idea for what a career in these areas actually entails -- and for a chance to ask any questions you might have to our mentors! Hello! Do you suggest a Game Artist, become a Game Designer? if he/she would have good in logic (generally not in coding ) Because he/she won't know about Programming. He has good strengths in creativity, Visuals but Programming haven't done programming.
@Cgspectrum
@Cgspectrum Год назад
Hi there! Some advice from Troy: It's not a requirement for a game designer to know how to program, but knowing how to use logic to create scripts and do some technical type work is important. Being a designer is about knowing how to find the fun, but having art and technical skills are just a bonus, so yes, most artists can become game designers, and especially level designers -- usually fairly well. Good luck on your game design journey! Find out more about the career path to becoming a game designer here: www.cgspectrum.com/career-pathways/game-development
