Learning Front End Development is hard and many people fail along the way. I am gonna share with you what I would do differently If I had to learn it again. As a junior programmer, you want to maximize your time and be effective. You can learn from my mistakes and become a developer way quicker than I did.

i dipped my toes into HTML and CSS years ago.. and recently dove into JS. I'm so glad you described your experience the way you did.. I feel like I'm retracing and spending 4x the 'time required' for each section. You've given me a lot of confidence to keep going, i'm glad my confusion and backtracking isnt just me being stupid/incompetent.
@PomSptz

I feel the same way. I earned a cert in Web Design back in 2015 when HTML5 was new. Never did anything with html, java or css, and now I'm back-tracking to learn everything again. My confidence level was in the toilet back then and it took this long to recover. Now I'm reviving my interest in order to find a better paying position. This was a good video!

This guy is 100% legit right, we can learn all these stuffs for free from RU-vid, but most videos are tutorials, crash courses, its not structured well, or very organized or its not something that takes us from level to level like we would get from Udemy or Treehouse, we would easily get lost and would take us many years if we only depend on it. Personally, I believe RU-vid is best only for basic skills,jumpstart and for developers who already have a job that needs some reference.

I agree with everything you said with the exception of learning react at the end. I think you need to learn a ui framework/lib that is most popular in the area you’re searching for. For example where I live the demand seems to tilt for angular with a Java backend as well as some understanding of AWS. And that’s just for a junior.

I like how he explains the background at the beginning of the video unlike other developers. I can relate exactly how I felt when first learning about front end stuff. But with more practice I got to understand the way it works. What most developers fail to mentions however is that once you create a website for example, how do you host it. I had to learn all about buying domains and web hosting as I was confused after I created my first website locally. I hope developers can example and teach how it works

Hi thanks for the video and I will definitely go through the resources you have mentioned! Also i would like to ask as a aspiring web developer I understand we should build things on our own but sometimes one can get stuck. For example when building a todo list some might not know how to implement things like deleting a todo or editing a todo. Is that okay to watch video or go through google to check hows its done and implement it into one’s own project ?

i have gone through the html, css and bootstrap till now, have made few websites and i can agree that bootstrap is one of the confusing part. It have lots of classes with similar names which is quite confusing actually. Initially i get confused what class should i use here. Even the documentations available will quite confuse you and you will start loosing interest in some point. But i managed to understand their uses and purposes. One thing i also realised in this process that you don't need remember every classes and property but you should know what to implement where referring the documentation. Sometimes i do mess up while practicing but it also clears my doubts and gives me clarity. Can't wait to get my hands on with Javascript.

Great video - although I emphasise caution with boostrap. When interviewing for junior devs, many come in to us with a bootstrap dependency - but this doesn't fit well with our way of working and typical projects. Bootstrap may help you - and that's great. But I've never met a project where it couldn't easily be produced without bootstrap - and your understanding of what you're doing is much higher without it. Definitely take a look at JS too!
@jake445
@jake445 2 года назад
do you mean we should put more emphasis on vanilla css?

@@jake445 certainly - as all css libraries and extra still require a FULL understanding of vanilla CSS to ensure problems or bad practice don’t creep in 👍
@sali96

I totally agree; being dependent on framework makes you less experienced in design and structure of building your own especially when bootstrap won’t fit into your design per say. It’s good to learn frameworks and understand how it works, what they are etc, but vanilla is best way to gain more better experience and become a professional front end developer
@jake445

If you're gonna spend a full continuous month(or even two months) on HTML and CSS, don't. Try to "sprinkle" those sessions in between JavaScript sessions. You'll forget a good chunk of what you learn and you'll be bored out of your mind studying a single aspect of web development, which goes for JS too. The odin project does a good job keeping the courses diversified.

When did you finish Team Treehouse? How long after you finished treehouse did it take for you to get your first web developer job?

I think I spend like 3 months on threehouse, it’s 100% worth the money. I could see my progression once I was learning there. It took me 6 months to get a job

Did you do a Techdegree? If yes, which one?

Does the ecommerce store with Javascript have to have a backend for the portfolio, or can it just be the interactive UI that can be clicked through but not have a backend to it? Would that be enough for employers?

Hi, first time came across your video. Am starting on this journey, doing course on Udemy. You sound quite encouraging. So you got hired when you knew html,css,bootstrap and java ? Without any experience? Just with portfolio? Where in the UK are you? Am also here.

Yes! No primer experience I was working in finance before so completely not related to programming 😃 I learned HTML, CSS, Boostrap and JavaScript that’s what you need. If you are in based in London you might need React as well. I am working in Birmingham at the moment

Right now I'm also studying to be a frontend developer (self-taught) and from what I've seen on the internet and senior videos, just for taking a Ucademy course or any other, they won't hire you, you have to start programming for months doing projects some simple some complicated, 1 to feel comfortable programming different things 2 of the projects you have choose the best and most you like and put them in your portfolio, especially one big and complicated (the most important of all projects) my recommendation is that when you have a base on html, css and js, you spend a few months programming only with this and once you feel very comfortable with this you start with react and bootstrap, BUT I repeat I'm still studying and I have no work experience, so this is just a recommendation and how I'm doing it

@@marty336 And they hired you without any experience, just with portfolio? I am in North East, in Newcastle, doing Udemy course., finishing CSS. Still hard to beleive that it will be possible to find a job without any experience. But i hope so. At the moment am just studying. Thank you for your video, it inspired me more to keep going.
