As a teen going into my freshmen year, this sounds a bit overwhelming but i already know more about nutrition than the average adult and i’ve been interested in it for over a year now. It is a strong passion of mine and this video was incredibly helpful for me to know what i am getting myself into. I will keep doing private study of nutrition on my own free time and one day I hope to become successful like you
I wish you the best. Maybe “shadow” an RD at a hospital or clinic. Very rewarding field. Sooo many options-community, clinical, education, state and federal ❣️
I’m in my 30s and I’ve been thinking about changing career paths…thank you so much for this information!! As with anything new, I feel a little overwhelmed but your breakdown makes it seem more manageable :)
Unfortunately its a career path that does not pay a good salary. You have to be very creative and work have an entrepreneurial spirit if you want to truly make more $ as a dietitian
Yes! Also beginning 1/1/24 (at least in my state) you must hold a master's degree to take the exam to become "registered"! And the salary is so bad, unless like you pointed out, one must be very creative, proactive and entrepreneurial
I’d say it’s a supplement certification for a personal trainer. If you do both now you can get someone’s health on track and charge for both. It’s hard to get people healthy from just working out what they eat is just as important.
This was SO helpful. I’ve been searching for what steps to take and how to find the right school and wondered what the difference was between licensed and registered and dietician and nutritionist. Thanks so much!
Registration is a national certification administered through the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. You are eligible to take the registration exam following completion of an accredited program and internship. Starting in 2024, a Masters degree will be necessary. After passing the registration exam, you can apply for state licensure.
Omg this is so helpful thank u I'm going to college as a freshmen and becoming a nutritionist and dietition is my dream u gained a new subscriber thank uuuuu❤
Being an RD for 25 years was very rewarding and I DID make very good income. I worked at the state and Federal levels which gave me numerous travel experiences, flexibility, challenges, creative opportunities and generous compensation!
New sub. Great video. Having looked into this, I think it’s important to understand the significant difference between motivation for nutrition and an interest in the science of dietetics. Do you want to work with people tackling disease who need highly specialised diet hence the intense science aspect of being a dietician. And/or do you truly understand the roel and responsibility of a dietician? It needs specific learning in science in a way nutrition doesn’t. Course syllabuses make these differences and details clear. If interest is more generalised then dietetics probably isn’t for you. Know what you want to do with the qualification and more importantly why you are doing it. There is a difference and a dietician and nutritionist can serve very different purposes. Sometimes it’s helpful to go to different professionals for the two specialisms re perspective and insights.
I'm a life coach and would like to look into nutrition as a niche. Also, I think careers in nutrition and dietetics are going to soar over the next 10 years. Don't believe me? Four states have now started pulling foods with certain chemicals in them off of the shelves. We now have "healthy" junk food. People will always be interested in what they are eating and how to eat well for optimum health.
I want to follow this path in my life, and I am aware and prepaid to go to school. My question is, during the 4 years I will be in school how much math plays a part in a dietitian / nutritionist work and learning ? Obviously science will be involved, which I am not bad at. . however I have always struggled with math and I want to know if going into this field is the right choice for me.
I think this depends on the school and their specific curriculum. For my dietetics program I only had to take one college algebra class. It is a lot more science and chemistry heavy than it is math!
So what can you do with a certificate of completion in nutrition? Can you do meal plans for your personal training clients? This was very informative and thank you so much for this!!
Thanks so much for this it was extremely helpful. I currently have a BA in Political Science but have a serious passion for nutrition and I'm currently looking into schools that provide a lot of what you mentioned, but what I'm dreading is, taking A&P II and I just saw it as a requirement for a certain University. Is there any program that doesn’t require A&PII or is it a must to become a RDN?
I currently have my bachelors degree in business management but I’d like to have a career in this field. How would this work if 4 years is needed for this field?
Great video. How can I get in this field if I have an unrelated bachelor degree and no nutritional background or coursework? I would just be starting from scratch. Please advise, thanks.
Hi there, I have a technical degree in culinary arts and a bachelor degree in business administration. I've been considering to go for a neonatal dietitian as I have been working with babies during these last 5 years but I'm lost in the way I should take. Do you have any knowledge if those degrees are recognized in the dietitian path?
Very tough decision, I would say get the RD along the way and get the Ph.D. There are a lot of doctors, dentists, PA’s, and a lot of other careers that are also RD’s. If you have the time and money 🤎
I was a Dietitian in India I had a bachelor degree and one year Diploma in clinical nutrition and I have Done 10 year job in hospital line What should I do to become a Dietitian in Canada
This is so helpful,i am glad i came across your page.Actually, I studied Food Nutrition and Dietetics back in my country in nigeria before I came into Canada and I am thinking of getting a certificate here to become an assistant dietitian or nutritionist .Pls what do I need to do?
Dear Lu Akin I would like to thank you for this video I am a doctor graduated from medical school in syria then completed 5 yrs training in obs and gyncology and got a board in this speciality and worked for few years in Oman , but as my interest is in nutrition so i started studying Master in public health nutrition in UKM university in Malaysia . It will be appreciated if you provide me with the steps of how can i become a registered nutritionist in Canada . Best regards
For a person that earned a bachelor’s degree not related to dietetics are there any recommended master’s programs or first steps towards becoming a register dietician
I already have a bachelors in a completely different field but I am I love with nutrition now. Would I just skip dpd program and go straight into masters coordinated program?
Thank you so much for this informative video. I have just relocated to the US from the UK and am looking to register as a nutritionist dietitian. My education is in Physical Therapy (undergrad) and Human Nutrition (Masters degree). In the UK I worked as a nutritionist and was registered with the Association for Nutrition. I am going through the process of getting my degrees evaluated for relevancy in the US. I believe I will likely have to do some additional study and/or supervised practice to register as a RDN. My question is, in the meantime do you know if it is possible to practice as a nutritionist? I am in California. Many thanks in advance!
That I don’t know, it depends if the job you’re applying for will accept your education. If you’re doing private practice stuff, it would be best to get the approval prior to seeing clients as this can pose a risk since you’re unregistered and you’re from a different country.
@@luakin hi hope you are doing great, just a quick question I have completed my bachelor's in applied nutrition and dietetics and also I am in my last semester of my master's program in nutrition, so my question is that can I directly write register dietician exam or else do I need to first apply for internship there I am already in a process of completing my 6 month internship program in my master's course. Can you please answer my question. I am planning to immigrate to Canada.
I'm an Education graduate recently working in school and planning to take Nutrition to work as dietitian. What do you think how many years I have to study? Which online school is best? Or you can recommend. Thank you
I feel like anyone who has a bachelors degree in nutrition can call themselves a nutritionist because they have that education but only one who’s gone through the masters/dietetics certification can call themselves a registered dietician
I just completed Senior High school n I want to follow dis step to be a nutritionist buh I studied Home Economics at school .So what should I do for now
"Hi, my wife has completed her PhD in Food and Nutrition in India. She wishes to go abroad, specifically to countries like Singapore, Australia, or Canada. How can she register as a nutritionist and a registered dietitian in these countries? She has extensive experience in both areas, working as a dietitian for almost 6 years and as a professor for 15 years. Could you please guide us on the procedure to become a registered dietitian in the respective countries? I appreciate your assistance in this matter.
Hi Lu. this video was very helpful. I currently have a Bachelors degree in Business Administration. Can I get my Masters in DPD or will I need to get another Bachelors since my first was in a totally different field?
So how about if you do not have a bachelors in Nutrition or any related course say, you are a lawyer but want to become a nutritionist? Can you straight ahead take a masters in dietectics?
Hello ma’am I had my undergraduate in food and nutrition education but I realized my interest is not in the field of teaching I always wanted to become a dietitian. My question is can I have my msc program in nutrition and dietetic so I can become a dietitian? Thank you
It depends on the classes that you took as an undergrad. I would recommend speaking with a university in your area to see what classes are needed so that you can do your internship. I am RDN
Thanks for the useful tips,I am a registered Dietitian here in Nigeria, what possible option can I opt for my masters programs to be able to be registered in Canada?
Thank you it's really helpful video , can you please elaborate if someone is done with degree in Human Nutrition and dietetics from Pakistan and completed the internship over there. What will the procedure for them ? In order to practice in UK ?
I’m curious. Does a nutritionist/dietician promote a vegan/plant based diet, or least encourage folks to minimize meat/eggs (cuz saturated fat/cholesterol), eliminate dairy (cuz “humans aren’t supposed to have milk from animals”) & think the food pyramid is an excellent reference for optimal health? Or do they teach bioindividuality, saying no to food cults & the food pyramid is bullshit?
I am also interested in this. I have an HND in Food Technology but I am interested in pursuing my master's in nutritional science to qualify for RDN in the US but I don't know how possible that is. I will be glad to get feedback that will help me.
Am from Sierra Leone my plain is to enroll in university next year as a nutritionist in degree is it going to be easier for me to have a job after my course
