@@InPursuit360 it went very well thank you. They asked me to tell them about myself so I remembered your video about not selling myself short. They also asked if I’m involved in my community and I answered and gave examples of what I did in the community. Talked about my volunteer experience in school as well. They also asked me if I have experience dealing with difficult people and asked me to give an example.
When I was a kid, I wanted to become a police officer but I was embarrassed because my dad went to prison for drug dealing and the majority of my family was into some type of hustling. In my late teens I went down a similar path but walked away at 21. Now that I’m 35 and I see all the suffering in society, I wish I was in a position to contribute to my community and stand with those in law enforcement. It’s terrible the way police officers are treated today. The things Ive done make me ineligible but I will always back the blue.
I feel you man but im 19 both of my parents were in prison , i started working corrections for a prison and im thinking about taking all my test and becoming an officer

35 is not too late to try for an LEO job. . things you’ve done 15 years ago? Thats a long time ago and youve turned yourself around. Yes, there are some things 15 years can’t erase but we’ve hired guys with past (over a decade) convictions. As far as family goes, what you said above shows the employer how extraordinary you are to have risen above all that. You can choose your fiends but not your family. I am a retired officer of 30 years. The last few years were as our training coordinator and recruitment supervisor. Did many oral boards. Your video is informative and right on, especially the professional appearance point. One thing I would add is sit up proud and strong and look into the interviewers eyes. Don't be boastful or verbose just be proud and confident. And the point about asking to take notes... great. That would have won me over at the start.

this help out so much. I had no idea how to relate my pass jobs to a law enforcement one. Listening on how you were able to relate non related law enforcement jobs gave me many ideas how I can sell myself with my kitchen jobs. Thank you!
I think my biggest challenge will be that I have always been very self-critical and so that has led me to be humble or sell myself short, so the selling myself will definitely take a lot of pep talk and preparation. I don’t have an interview, but I want to be ready for everything. Thanks for your video, it definitely helps!
Stay positive, honestly, in my personal life I am shy and anti confrontational, my wife couldn't believe I was in law enforcement because I avoid confrontation. But there is something about having the knowledge of the law and being entrusted to protect people that, when I put on my uniform, I had no problem talking to people and making some of those hard decisions. You can do it.

No longer considered an honorable profession…. Umm what drugs are you taking because people risk their lives for cowards like you, who rather complain about situations than to throw yourself into them and try to solve them like our brave police officers do. But that’s okay no one is judging you for staying behind a glass screen all day comfortably watching body cam videos insulting the very people allowing you to do so…
@@whatswithyous The notion that there is such a thing as a "good" cop is ridiculous. Because if they existed, the good cops would turn in the bad ones. But unfortunately, this does NOT happen. All cops, regardless of their individual actions, are ultimately part of the thin-blue-line gang, reinforcing a system where abuse of power and misconduct goes unchecked.
I got to 8:59 before I had take note of some of your interview. Here are some of my key takeaways from your job interview advice for future law enforcement officers within the continental United States 🇺🇸 1) be respective of other individuals time 2) be early, prompt, and punctual for routine appointments like doctors, dentists, other office visit or meetings 3) make your story related and not too like rehearse. Tell us a time about … STAR method 4) dress appropriately for the occasion 5) be meticulous and take notes when necessary Would recommend to relevant hiring manager for position just for being normal human being
I had several oral boards and interviews when I first applied with several agencies. As an older guy with a successful career behind me, I think they all looked at me differently from a kid with no military who still lived at home with parents. I often wonder if I made the right selection of departments. I did well at the Academy but the scenarios were a little different. They liked me because I never complained. I always saw the glass as half full. I enjoyed my time in that Department but I was the subject of bias because of my age and my good attitude. I never complained. I just soldiered on. I ran into many people who were jealous of me (what a riot!) and those who hated me. It is not a "one for all and all for one deal" any more.
Yes the process is long. But that’s why you ALWAYS make sure to apply to more then one. If department A wants to take their sweet ass time that’s fine. Department B you could be already at the medical screening. Department C you could already be in the academy… Never just apply to one department. Some departments will drag you along (I’ve seen guys wait years). Don’t waste your time. Apply to multiple and make sure you let the other knows and sure sometime they don’t like that but that’s not your problem if they want you that bad they’ll hurry the process along. Otherwise keep it moving. This is what we were taught in the academy and it worked for me and everyone I knew.
Thanks for that, I have said this in multiple videos. Apply to multiple departments, even look at widening your geographic search area. Getting a foot in the door is the key to ending up where you want to be. Good luck and stay safe.
I just want to say, loved your video. Had my oral board last week and just found out I passed! Now to practice for my chief interview next. Not sure if there’s a video on what to expect for that (hint hint lol) would be great! Keep up the great content! Extremely helpful video!
For anyone reading this comment. My number one advice would be to read, familiarize and understand the departments Mission statement, vision and goals. You do not nesscesary have to agree with these but you should should make sure you sound like you do. That does not mean lie or be deceiving but this displays an understanding and flexibility with the department. Your goal is to be unbias has possible and show you are able to put your personal beliefs aside when on duty.
Please please please take your time everyone take your time answering and Intaking the questions. I rushed and I didn’t waiver even when given opportunity to elaborate I still didn’t take the hint be compassionate in your answers and be willing to give others the benefit of the doubt. I was told I was too “RoboCop” and I needed to be prepared to give people warnings not tickets. Please if given scenario remember as an officer you’re there to help

Not going towards law enforcement, but this did gave me an idea what to say during an interview especially in "tell me about you". Gave me a different insight, thanks.
Things might be a lot lot different now. I sat (as an interviewer) on many oral boards. For entry level, we had a panel of 3, Sergents (that's the way they spelled it, I know it looks wrong) or senior Senior Officers. He said that first impressions are important. He is very right. Extremely right. We are looking for someone that we want to work with. Someone that will be down for whatever happens and be there in a jam. We did not give a F about politics or diversity, one way or another. So here's the deal, be in shape, dress nicely and conservatively. Have a military bearing and remember that you are talking to old patrolmen. The best way to know how we think and what we want is to go on ride alongs and try to get to know someone. The bad part is that mostly the new guys get stuck with the ride longs but watch those old guys. They are the leaders and they carry the weight.
Your tips are so helpful! You’re the best!!!! I loved that you said that we can turn anything we’ve done before into an experience that we can explain why we become a great officer. ❤
I got 68.75/70 scores for the police interview. The reason was my answers were to short when it comes to situation questions. The Sergeant who talk with me offer me to apply for the next recruitment cycle since I already have the passing scores of the physical and writing test. This video help me alot about the requirement that I have to fulfill for each category of questions.
I went to my current job in 2014 and wore a suit and tie. My 80-year old dad told me to. I still remember my colleagues thinking that was over the top. But it left an impression. The first thing my future boss saw was someone who gave enough of a damn to put a suit and tie on.
As a captain (retired ‘97) I sat on a lot of interview panels. Some of the responses we got left me wondering what rock some of the applicants crawled out from.
Hey I had a question mabye you can help me out, I’m currently a correction officer in Colorado 19yo so I have to do two years before I could go post but I had prior drug usage when I was younger but am now clean will this possibly not get me hired? Is there a minimal I can say or should I say it all “?
@@sarahvincerivera1812 you're young and if you've had a consistent record of being clean and you're already in a related job then you shouldn't have much issue Just stay clean the next two years and show good character, develop good will with people and you should be fine, I think
I'm 33 and will be applying for SPD next year! I want to help end the stigma and make people realize not all cops are bad! I want to be that Law Enforcement officer that protects, even children. After growing up in the system I was always told I would never amount to anything by Social workers, adoptive parent and peers! I have been in Security for almost 5 years and now it's time to go up in my career!
I like to be a police officer, I will protect people and property through the enforcement of the law and regulations. And proactively patrols on assigned areas.
Thanks for all your videos; I'm in the process of becoming a dispatcher, not police officer, but I'm still going through the same process, so it helps!

@@InPursuit360 i finished my PST (Entrance Exam) and i got a 69.09%. I needed a 70.0%. I have no choice but to wait 90 days (June 2023) till my next available testing date. What else can i do except study?
What I suggest you do is skip to questions that you know you can answer quickly. Since it is a timed exam it makes sense to use your time productively. Just make sure that when you skip you are bubbling in the right questions. This helped me pass it. Studying can only do so much, you know what is on the test so you have an advantage.
In this day and age if you don’t have a criminal record your hired. Departments have a hard time getting applicants because most departments don’t provide pensions or retirement healthcare! I would try to find out if the department is young or if many are retiring soon. If it’s a young department you may be on midnights for 20 years.
Did 15 yrs on the job and left after all the civil unrest. I wish I left sooner, I transitioned into corporate investigation & compliance then ended up in cybersecurity.
Thanks for your 15 years. I left for medical reasons after 21 years in 2018, before things got way insane. I appreciate all the officers on the road now and all of those going into the field.

They also ask “ are you a member of a religion or do you have any religious beliefs that would prevent you from doing your job effectively?” They want to make sure you have no morals, values, ethics or integrity that will impede you from your enforcement of tyrannical power.

I’m from Vietnam and I have been in the US only 5 years but lately I have seen even ever ever happened in my life one of police officer of my state got ambush from gunman and he died ! He only 23 years old and he was serving in military before he became police officer ! Police officer is always his dream and I would like to achieve to be police officer because his died gave me motion to consider to be police officer one day but now I’m 28 years and my English isn’t perfect I’m not sure if 28 is old or maybe too late to become police officer one day !
Every police and sheriff department in the state of Texas is hiring, smaller departments will not take that long to get you on the streets working, the bigger departments will take a longer time to put you through a background check . But they shouldn’t take to long due to most of them are begging for help.
Just apply if interested. These departments are not turning applicants down. Plus they are paying bonuses to apply. No more college credits, just a GED/DIPLOMA. 15 yr, Cop. Back in my days, you needed 30 hrs college, Diploma, Military. Ive been to too many Cop Funerals, 9 to be exact. Becareful what you wish for.
One question: Why is it that "law enforcement/officers/" don't know the laws, the source of laws, the purpose of laws, the Constitution or the founding document (trust) from which every "form of government" are derived from? Worst of all how come they don't want to know, are not trained in law and violate the laws and its purpose every day? I'll bet you don't know either and don't teach it, just like EVERY attorney and every so called judge??
Because there is no profit in obeying the laws, knowing the laws or enforcing the laws on those the laws are made for (all those who presume to be holding a position of public trust) "persons" NOT "people". Do you know the difference?
Provide the section of any State Constitution or United States of America Constitution or "The United States Constitution"/corporate charter, provides (authorizes) "police", "police force", "policing" or any authority over people.
Question can a new chief of police in Texas assign a sgt to be a command officer and oversee other sgts. Promote him on a salary pay without testing for this position? This new chief is also changing policy with memos in order to have an officer be eligible to apply for a position that was favorable for that officer who didn’t originally meet qualifications; bypassing other qualified officers for that position? There is a chief, 2 LT’s and 5 sgt’s. It’s a small department. This new chief has used the word promoted and has shifted officers to different divisions but most concerning is appointing and Sgt to a higher position without giving anyone equal opportunity.
My dream job is still to become a Police Officer, but I started my career as a Wildland Firefighter. And idk now since I put so much work into my current career and I just turned 30, but feel like my dream job is shrinking by day maybe a change, but also really not wanting to start from being a rookie again, but we’ll see what God points my life too.
I’m on the same boat. 10 years into a career at my Sheriff’s dept. Started at 21… have seniority.. have hit most of my raises both from the state and union… been debating if I should go state police but now that I’m 30 I don’t want to restart my seniority 🥹
Wanted to ask. What examples can you give me when they ask you what are your strengths & weaknesses??? Have a sponsorship interview. Any ADVICE WILL HELP!!! doing some home work/ research on it

pursuit 360 can (armed) policeman class be combined with the other classes like terrorist, soldier, shooter, hunter, militia, gang member, mercenary, and gunny into one class?
@ inpursuit…360 I have a question probably not only for me but some people out there like me that was assigned that I have dyslexia, how and would that infect my opportunity to become a cop even though we have technology to be able to help with auto correction which I use for day-to-day basis. Loved the video it helped a lot and actually made me feel more confident. 💯👍
Dyslexia will not be an automatic dis qualifier. Be up front with them if it comes up, maybe work it into one of the interview answers and explain how you have found ways to overcome this and be successful in other things. Think you will be good to go, good luck.
Thanks for all the email addresses... I'll be sure to follow all of you to see how long it takes for the patina to form........ Too the good ones. If you're going to be good, you must call out injustice among your own, before you have the right to HANDLE citizens... As long as there is a wife beater among them, not being called out, makes you worse than they are for enabling them & shielding them... DI IT RIGHT, OR NOT AT ALL
I'm currently waiting for the MC results. My big concern is the interview, because english is my second language and I'm not 100% fluid... sometimes I can't express my thoughts totally. Can you give me an advice regarding this problem?
Ease up on making people feel nervous and uncomfortable at alot of these Department interviews. Just be thankful that alot of these future Cadets really will make great Police Officers in these Departments that probably are 300 to 800 Officers short already.
Interesting, first time someone has said I am making people nervous. The goal in all my videos is to reduce stress and let everyone have an idea of what to expect and how to prepare. I will pay attention to the tone in the future, all critiques are welcome here.
This is great. Thank you for that. I've been thinking/wanting to join LE since college. I'm currently in a really good office job, making really good $$, but I'm thinking of dropping it for the LE in Florida. It's worth it, right? ......right?
It's a calling. No one goes into law enforcement to get rich. Federal guys make some decent money. But it really isn't about the dollars if it is what you are meant to do. Is it worth it, that is up to each person. I wouldn't have traded my time for anything, but that is just me. Good luck.
I have a big question I have a beautiful wife and kids aI one tried to be a police officer once but they thought I was too soft but my parents and my wife say no because they don’t want me to be but in my heart I want to try again to become a sheriff to help and protect others but I am afraid my parents and wife will turn against me to use my kids to keep my from doing something that I to try again what should I do please?????
Hello! I really want to be a police officer and work in a prison. But I can't write, I understand more and speak little. Could I take the test? to get into the police academy
Been looking into a career in law enforcement for years now….. I was a resident then, I am now a citizen but now I’m hesitant since in my young days I did do ilegal substances such a cocaine and ecstasy haven’t touch those anymore since I’m much older now and have a family but in your experience would be that be an automatic DQ? I’ve always been and stayed in great physical shape and never been arrested or in trouble with the law.
I would say don’t mention specifics unless you are asked directly ‘have you ever….?” And always answer in the Past tense. ‘in my youth I experimented with….” And ‘Since my youth I have never touched any illicit or mind altering substances. I don’t even drink, as I don’t like to cloud my judgement.” Things of that nature. Make it clear that you have long since learned from the mistakes of your past, and that you have been clean for your adult life.
