Step by step guide to begin your Nursing application in Canada. NNAS is the first step you need to register with for your credentials evaluation to see if your Nursing program in your country is comparable to Canadian standard. Remember this stage is compulsory for all IENs before you can become a Nurse in Canada.
NNAS issues report based on what you've submitted but your Nursing regulatory body gives the final decision whether you need additional courses inform of bridging program before you can be eligible to write your Nclex or sometimes you can be lucky to challenge Nclex without further studies depending on the regulatory body requirements. Best province to consider when applying for NNAS are:
Newbrunswick (NANB)
Ontario (CNO)
Newfoundland and Labrador.
pls be guided

Thanks and appreciate 🙏 Note that there are now few changes to NNAS. You can now apply to Nova scotia college of nursing, college of registered Nurses of Alberta without NNAS. For British Columbia, you can use either NNAS or other Canadian certified evaluation body like WES, ICAS, ICES etc for your evaluation.

Thank you very much Nurse O, for your detailed analysis 🙏 it's awesome! I am a registered Nurse with diploma from Nigeria, however I am currently practicing in the UK 🇬🇧, I have applied to start my top up Nursing degree and will be starting this September, I have been researching for information and guidance like yours on how to go about Canada process and I'm very happy I came across this video. Please my questions are. I) Do you advise I continue with getting my degree even as I start my Canadian journey; The degree course will last for 16 months 2) If I continue with getting my degree, then I will start the process with my diploma certificate, is there a place I can add up my degree certificate if I get it or would I have passed the stage by then 3) I will like to explore the CGFNS route to Canada as a RN even with my diploma certificate, how long do you think the whole process will take. 4) Should I still apply to NNAS for the LPN and RN evaluation and get the not comparable for RN before transferring my license from US to CNO Ontario, or is it no longer necessary to register with NNAS if I'm going through CGFNS PS# I don't want to sit down and just be on the process, I want to use the waiting time to start and get my degree; what's your take on it, I will appreciate your response 🙏
@nurseo3408
@nurseo3408 Год назад
Thanks for the compliment 1. I'd advise you to pursue your degree cos it'll help you to have a good evaluation report if you do need it ( for provinces like ontario, newbrunswick, British Columbia) and also, it will assist you find good nursing job when time comes . 2. I'm not sure at the evaluation level, but it is not impossible as long as your report hasn't been issued. Same with when you're with the nursing regulatory board . 3. I highly recommend that you evaluate your credentials with CGFNS, send your report to Texas BON, Massachusetts or New York to request att, pass your Nclex and then transfer to Canada. This is what I'll highly recommend if you have the financial capability. 4. NNAS is not a must for all provinces now, if you've passed your NCLEX from US, you can apply directly to the following Nursing regulatory board, novascotia, Alberta, newbrunswick and Newfoundland . There's no need to do credential evaluation being a nurse from UK

This was amazing, Nurse O! Thank you so much! I just have one question. Please for someone who went through the US route with an RN diploma from Nigeria and a top up BSN in the UK, good IELTS result and has gone through the CGFNS process and passed NCLEX, do I still have to start from NANS or just submit my documents (CGFNS report etc) to the regulatory body of whatever province I’m interested in Canada like BC and Ontario? I would truly appreciate any form of guidance I can get. Thank you again!
@nurseo3408
@nurseo3408 27 дней назад
@EmekaOUzo thanks for watching. Every regulatory board has their requirements. For Ontario, if you're not registered in any other Canadian jurisdiction, then NNAS is a must. I strongly advise that you should apply with NSCN, just pay the application fee of 57.50, transfer your license from US, and get licensed to become a Canadian RN. You can then transfer from Nova Scotia to other Canadian provinces of your choice, not as an outsider but as a Canadian applicant. You can message me on ig @ o_funky1 for more guidance.

@nurseo3408
@nurseo3408 Год назад
Thanks for watching the channel Going through US route is a shorter way of getting your eligibility for att which sometimes might take longer to get in Canada and the benefit of this is that once you've passed from US, just transfer to CNO regulatory board who will accept this to bridge any educational gaps you might be having and also, fulfill the examination requirement . NNAS is totally different from CGFNS, although NNAS still sends our transcript to CGFNS but it's a two different application at that time. There's no order to which one you can do first infact you can initiate the application same day if you have the financial capability. At NNAS, you don't need any proof of English proficiency however, you might be required to provide either celban results ( can only be done in canada) or academic ielts but you can request for waiver from the nursing regulatory board you're applying to by getting a reference letter from your employer that you can communicate in English language. Migrating to Canada is another process entirely, you can apply for express entry( preferably), come through Student route or apply for work permit. I have videos on express entry ( permanent resident) and students pathway on my channel already, pls watch and let me know if you have further questions. For work permit, I don't have much information on this but you can apply for job from UK then look for employer that can process your application for you . Thanks

Yes, if you're considering CNO. There are other provinces that don't require credential evaluation again, but you need to check their website to see if your country is exempted. You can try provinces like Alberta or Nova Scotia. If your country is not among the expedited list, you can also use other ECA bodies, preferably IQAS instead of NNAS. Once again, verify with the nursing regulatory board of your choice to see what you'll need as requirements for registration keep changing

@nurseo3408
@nurseo3408 Год назад
Thanks for the compliment. Before and till now, NNAS is the only available and acceptable body for evaluating international nurses but hopefully in coming weeks, BCCNM ( British Columbia), one of the nursing regulatory board will be accepting credential evaluation reports from other ECA organizations such as ICAS, ICES, WES which means if you have report from any of the ECA listed, you might not go through NNAS again. In nutshell, WES, ICAS reports are basically for the purposes of immigration if you are considering coming to Canada through Express entry pathway. For your CGFNS, note that NNAS will not accept CGFNS report from you as an individual, I'd advise you continue with it, get your att from USA, write and pass your Nclex then transfer it to Canada, that way, you'll have save more time. I hope this helps. Let me know if you need further assistance. Thanks

Please will the 12months start counting when the applicant have created an account with NASS or after making payment. OR is it that before considering opening an account an applicant must be ready to pay the mandatory fees immediately. Thank you.
@nurseo3408
@nurseo3408 Год назад
Thanks for the compliment. NNAS time frame begins on the day you make payment. If you've submitted all the required documents and your AR is not out within the 12months, it's not your responsibility to renew, NNAS itself will extend the validity period so as to process your report accordingly.

Thanks for the compliment. There's no need to delay your registration with the regulatory board. The good thing now is that proof of English proficiency is NO longer required to have your advisory report from NNAS however, you'll still need academics ielts when you get to the nursing regulatory board although this depends on which province you're applying to. CNO have various ways through which you can proof this, either through study in Canada or you're coming from English speaking country like US, UK, etc or you're already in canada working as PSW or HCA. Province like Newbrunswick doesn't require any English as long as your education was in English Ielts required score-L7, W6.5, R6.5, S7

Examples are: Three Sample IENCAP MCQ Questions Question 1 A registered nurse is upset because of rude comments made about a client by the colleague. What is the first action the registered nurse should take in this situation? A. Report the colleague’s comments about the client to the unit manager. B. Tell the colleague to self-report the comment as professional misconduct. C. Discuss why this type of comment is inappropriate with the colleague. Answer: C. (Demonstrates an attempt at collaborative problem solving strategies, including conflict resolution. Demonstrates a professional presence and models professional behaviour. Nurses are expected to work collaboratively to solve workplace conflicts.) Question 2 A registered nurse disagrees with the social worker’s discharge plan for a client. What should the registered nurse do? A. Review the recommendations with the social worker providing insight into discharge plan. B. Partner with the social worker to integrate individual views into the discharge plan. C. Offer suggestions to the social worker regarding the discharge plan. D. Inform the social worker that the registered nurse understands the discharge plan best. Answer: B. (Conflict among colleagues can have an indirect influence on the therapeutic nurse-client relationship. Nurses are expected to inform the health care provider of their concern. Nurses must participate and contribute to health care team development through shared problem-solving, and decision-making.) Question 3 A new nurse wants a day off from the hospital where she works but has been denied vacation by her employer. Which organization (group, institution, association) could the nurse use for help in this matter? A. Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario B. College of Nurses of Ontario C. Well, with or without BNSc, you'll be allowed to write Nclex from the US as long as you're in good standing with your nursing regulatory board in your country. Going through US route seems better and more economical than starting BNSc in canada. Although, you'll still need to do that later cos most employers, including government, give preferences to degree holders. You can start your CGFNS application at any time and anywhere. Going through NNAS now is a waste of money as there are other provinces that you can register with directly without going through credentials evaluation body- Alberta, Nova scotia nursing regulatory board are few ones that I can suggest now but you will have good luck with them if you've cleared your Nclex from the state. A copy of your Resume or CV After Submitting these, a member of the registration services will review your documents to see if additional information is needed BCCNM will then evaluate your NCAS report and make their decision either to grant you provisional eligibility to write Nclex RN, Rex-pn or go for bridging depending on the % of gaps identified. Hope this helps

Well, things have changed for good more than before. You can now register with Nova scotia college of nursing or College of registered Nurses of Alberta without going through credentials evaluation body. Once you've gotten your Canadian RN license from either of the 2 mentioned provinces, you can then transfer to any province of your choice. NSCN reg.fee is cheaper compared to CRNA anyway, so I'd advise that you reg. with NSCN.

Yes, you can work temporarily as HCA while working towards achieving your RN license but you might possibly need bridging program or professional exam like Arnap or OSCE before you are eligible to take your Nclex
