A teaching assistants job is to provide support to the teacher to create a proper learning environment.
The role of a TA is to support the teacher while conducting the class as well as to help the pupils with the lessons.
💠 Teaching Assistant Responsibilities
TA responsibilities vary based on his qualification and experience as well as the type of educational institution he’s working in. They may include:
🔹Make sure students are able to stay on track of the lessons, Ensure engagement.
🔹Follow up on the lessons one on one or in groups.
🔹Promote positive behaviour among young learners.
🔹Assist teachers in calming down challenging behaviours.
🔹Help young people become well-groomed social beings. Support their social and emotional development
🔹Readout stories and Supervise group activities of pupil
🔹Monitor students progress and provide detailed feedback
🔹Prepare the classroom and Ensure an atmosphere where effective learning can take place
🔹Carry out the responsibility of ensuring the safety of the students and give first aid whenever necessary
🔹Guide pupils make art projects, displays and fun
💠 What are the working hours of a TA
As a TA, you have to work from Monday to Friday school hours. You will be entitled annual leaves during the school holidays.
Here In the UK, there are three school terms each academic year starting from September. these are:
September to December.
January to March
April to July
💠 The qualifications necessary to become a TA
There is no specialized qualification to work as a teaching assistant. So you won’t need any particular degree to become a teaching assistant.
Usually, GCSE equivalent qualifications in the following will do
✔Maths
✔English
✔Numeracy
✔ICT
So basically you can start right after you are done with your GCSE’s if you want an early start.
For this, you can opt for an online TA course to get you started with:
☑Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools
☑Level 2 Teaching Assistant Certificate
☑Level 3 Award in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools
☑Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools
Level 2 and 3 are knowledge-based courses. You have to finish these qualifications before you can get a job as a TA.

Look for vacancies and apply for the position to get you started off

As a teaching assistant you are expected to possess the following skills:

🔘The average annual salary of a teaching assistant around £13,793 within the UK.
🔘The salary rises with advanced training and added responsibilities
🔘A higher-level teaching assistant or HLTA’s expect to earn around £21,000 to £25,000 per annum
