A computer that runs unity and an entry level VR headset is all you really need! I’d recommend the Oculus Quest 2 to start out with

Architecture & interior design is a huge opportunity for AR/VR. I'm actually working on a product that uses AR for architecture & interior design. It's definitely helpful to play around with 3D engines like Unity/Unreal to get familar with the process. On this channel I cover everything about AR/VR in Unity. Hey Bjorn, ideally you would upgrade soon but I'd recommend downloading Unity and just try it out. The lidar sensor on the iPad looks quite promising. I haven't tried it out personally yet but I've seen some very cool things already.

Hey Tanuj, knowing how to create website is quite helpful already, since the fundamental programming patterns are similar across languages. Definitely check out A-Frame which is a web framework that enables you to create AR/VR and 360 applications. I haven't tried out A-Frame yet so I can't really say if they are good or not. Another alternative might be 8th wall and I believe there will be more and more web frameworks for XR in the future :)

You can definitely get started with cheaper VR devices, such as Google cardboard, etc and then move up to higher tier VR devices. I started out the same :)

First, thanks for your well formulated comment. Now to your question :) I'd definitely recommend to try out both. Unity and Unreal are really powerful. My preference and thus the reason why I teach it on my channel is Unity but especially for someone like you coming from a 3D animation, modelling, VFX etc. background Unreal could be more ideal. Both have visual programming natively integrated now, so best would be to try them out!

You'll need a genuine interest in immersive technologies (AR/VR) For VR development you'll need a VR headset. From the technical perspective you should start with Unity or Unreal. On my channel I teach a lot about Unity Development for AR and VR. For Unity, definitely check out C# as well. Otherwise, there are no prerequisites besides a burning passion for awesomeness.

Hey Fala, although it’s helpful it’s not required to have skills in art or 3d modelling. It’s still important understand some of the technical aspects, since you will work with 3d content a lot. I‘d recommend to check out Blender which is a very powerful and free 3d modelling tool.

Definitely a great video suggestion. I don't have that much Unreal experience, to do a full comparison yet but definitely looking forward to try it out.

Unreal engine is better at rendering high quality graphics and animation, but for a beginner, learning Unreal can be difficult. Unity is comparatively easier to learn and use.

I have been working in 3D modelling, game Design, Augmented Reality etc for around 3 years. And also taking a college degree in computer science. Yesterday I bought an oculus quest 2. I will be getting into game dev. I have come with an idea. I prototyped the levels. I will be starting in assets creation.

Download unity on the laptop you have now to see if it runs! Then you can decide to upgrade or not.

I assume you mean python for VR programming. Theoretically you could use python in combination with Blender to create VR experiences. I personally and on this channel work with Unity and C# since this is one of the best and most established ways to create powerful AR and VR applications

That quite depends on many factores such as your level of experience and the country you're living in. In the US I'd say an average salary for an AR/VR Developer can range from $80k - $100k Here in Germany it's around €50k - €80k
