The first level is Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), focusing on basic emergency scene interventions and patient stabilization. Following EMR, the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification provides foundational skills for patient assessment and management in a variety of emergency situations. This is considered basic life support roles.
The Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) level expands upon the EMT's capabilities, incorporating more advanced airway devices, intravenous fluids, and some medications. The highest certification level, Paramedic, encompasses advanced medical procedures, pharmacology, and the use of complex equipment. These two roles would be considered advanced life support.
Start by taking your first EMT class!
Be great,
Evan, The Paramedic Coach

I did the expedited summer course at 10 weeks long and it was a full time job, no joke. But I am extremely glad I did because I made tons of friends and learned how to truly study and put in the time.

Did 8 week Online Hybrid course. Through a local EMS program. Started my career as a security officer or a (EMR) had to be certified in CPR/AED and basic first aid course. Through there had a few encounters where I had to use my training in that area, and found that's what I wanted to do.

I’m so glad I found my EMT Academy and finally got certified. I really lucked out. All the other programs were either a hybrid class or they made you jump through 1000 different fire hoops to get in

I would like to point out though that every Paramedic highly highly recommends being an EMT for at least 2-3 years, realistically 3 before going for their paramedic. (:

That's great that you found your passion in EMS! There are healthcare education programs that can help prepare you for EMT training. And yes, there are EMTs who specialize in wilderness or forestry settings!

So no need to have any basic training of some kind before you enter those weeks of training? Like healthcare education etc.

Nope! The EMT program will teach you everything you need to know and make sure you obtain any required certifications. The EMT level is quite basic in terms of knowledge, so it's a good entry-level position if you have no background in healthcare, though prior experience or education will definitelyhelp you as you study, and may make it easier to find an EMT job.

I’m in my program currently and came in with 0 medical knowledge. I’d say watch Paramedic Coach videos and listen to EMT lectures before the course just so you have a very surface level idea of what’s going on. Also, learn about human anatomy and physiology before coming! Having a good understanding of the body will save you SO MUCH trouble in this course. But you can do it with 0 experience like I am, you’ll just have to study your butt off.

Is there such a thing as a forestry EMT?

There is! It's called a Wilderness EMT or WEMT and it teaches you more hands on skills, like some extrication techniques, splinting, being more resourceful with stuff around you. It's pretty cool
