Ok. Wild moment. I’m helping my daughter research teaching in Thailand because she went to school there when we lived there and loved it. All of a sudden SHE WAS IN YOUR VIDEO! She was the little girl on the ISB front page! Maybe it’s a sign. 😉

No way! That is crazy! I was actually at a different school but have attended teacher training sessions at ISB and it was great.

ISB was magical for her as a student. She’s in college now and we still keep in touch with a few of the teachers there. It will be so much fun to see if life takes her back to Bangkok.

This was such a wonderful video. Thank you for the sharing the tips. I am hoping to find a job in Bangkok as a secondary school teacher. At present, in the UK, I am completing my masters degree, part-time, as well as working part-time in school. My plan is to land a job in Bangkok in the academic year of 24/25. I have visiting Thailand and thoroughly enjoyed the people and culture of Bangkok.

Aww thank you for your kind words, best of luck with the job hunt! A masters degree will definitely help with the search and make sure to apply early, most jobs start advertising from October/November onwards 🤞

I decided I wanted to move to Bangkok back in 2019. I have a BA, MA, and just completed my PGCE in Primary Education. I’m really hoping to move to Thailand but I’ve had no responses from anyone - maybe they’d prefer some who has already completed their ECT years? Maybe I need to improve my cover letters? But I am still hoping to get to Bangkok in the very near future 🤞🏻

Hiya! That’s so exciting to hear! Are you looking to teach at international schools? Most international schools will be looking for teachers around November through to April, with roles beginning in August/September time. The best way to find jobs (based on my experience) is via TES in the jobs section. Another thing you can do is check websites individually and bookmark all the career or job pages on the websites in a rocker on your internet browser, then check back every so often - most schools prefer applications in directly to job adverts rather than direct emails. If you have just done your PGCE this year? I would recommend getting your NQT done this year and apply for jobs this year to move over next year. I loved working for Nord Anglia Education who have a school in Bangkok and Pattaya but also check out schools like Patana, NIST, Regents, Wellington, Brighton, Kings College, Bangkok PREP and Harrow

Hi Katie, Thanks for sharing valuable information, I wish I could get a job as an English teacher anywhere in Southeast Asia, but its difficult as an Indian woman, I am a graduate in Ayurveda, but no degree in teaching...but will keep trying, hoping to meet you someday in Bangkok...

I hope you manage to get to Thailand! Do you have any experience teaching or working in schools? You could begin with librarian or teaching assistant roles in international schools

Would you say it’s unlikely you would get a job with just the PGCE and QTS without doing the 2 ECT years? I was thinking about going back to Thailand this year and next year and potentially doing ECT year after that?
@KatieOvlogs

You can deffo move abroad with your PGCE only. My first full year of teaching was in China so definitely get applying for anywhere you are thinking of heading to

Hey! I absolutely loved your video and found it very useful as my dream job is to be a secondary international school teacher. I am currently studying in the UK doing my GCSES and hope to the IB afterwards as I am on my last year of secondary school. I want to do a modern languages and linguistics degree as I am passionate about languages and language learning, so I would like to be an international secondary school teacher who teaches Spanish, English, Japanese or even Portuguese (I am Portuguese myself) and the rest of those languages (besides English) will be apart of my degree. This job is slightly difficult to get information on as its quite specific (though I am open to also being an English teacher at an international secondary school) but could you give me advice on what you think I should do to achieve this and if this would be possible as you are an international secondary school teacher yourself. Thank you, and I am glad I found your channel as it is really good on giving me an insight onto the job I would love to do one day as well. Keep up the great content!

Yay a fellow teacher! Your plan sounds great! There are plenty of jobs for secondary school language teachers especially in Spanish and French. I would suggest going to University to get a teaching degree, heading to a school in the UK to complete your NQT then get applying. With international teaching, there is more and more competition these days but if you have your qualifications and some experience, you should be able to get a well paid job in most places of the world. For me, I moved to China for my first two years. We enjoyed it there and it was a good stepping stone to a better location - we then moved to Thailand and then moved to Chicago. So you get to travel a lot but you may need to do a two year contract is somewhere less desirable to gain that international teaching experience

Hi Katie, thanks for posting such a great, helpful video. I am a career changer with 15+ years in the Social Care Industry in the UK before moving to Indonesia to teach EAL then back to the UK to get my PGCE. My degree is Law with Philosophy. I have just finished my two year ECT and am in my third year of teaching GCSE History in the UK. I miss living in Asia and have travelled in Thailand before and love to scuba, so am keen to explore opportunities. I am concerned that I haven't taught 'A level' here in the UK, nor do I have experience with IGCSE or and wouldn't mind learning, but am not sure what career development looks like in international schools? Can I learn how to teach 'A Levels' or would I be expected to just jump in and still get students high grades, as I have no concern with learning content, but getting to understand what is needed to pass an exam can be more challenging! Thanks
@KatieOvlogs
@KatieOvlogs 6 месяцев назад
If you have a PGCE you can teach A Levels and all schools recognise the PGCE. Definitely get applying for jobs now as this is the time they are all out! If you want to go for Bangkok, I would recommend looking at the top tier schools like Patana, Bangkok Prep, St Andrews, Harrow, Kings, Wellington and Brighton. Some are more central than others though so that’s something to be aware of

Hello. I live in japan teaching english here. I want to move to Bangkok by April 2023. Please help me find where to look. I have a bachelors degree from an American university but no teaching certifications. How can i find a job in Bangkok earning at least 50kbaht
@KatieOvlogs
@KatieOvlogs Год назад
I hope you get to move over here! I would look at the Tefl jobs available here but also look at the bilingual schools, some hire foreign teachers with a degree and where you have work experience, you have a great chance. Something to be aware of though is that many international schools start their term in August and thai-bilingual starts in April, so you are best at aiming for the latter

What are the salaries? Are international schools more than 40,000 THB? thanks
@KatieOvlogs
@KatieOvlogs 6 месяцев назад
Yes!!! Most international schools start at around 80/90k Baht a month, there are some schools that offer a lesser wage but don’t go for them!

Hi Katie, great video … I’m an experienced computer science teacher who left teaching in the UK in 2018. I now work for the University of Leeds as a Senior Learning Technologist in online and blended learning. Do you think I could easily still get a teaching job there in Bangkok? Also what sort of salary could I expect as a secondary teacher in Bangkok?
@KatieOvlogs
@KatieOvlogs 11 месяцев назад
You definitely would be able to get a teaching job in Thailand with a qualification in teaching. Use TES to find jobs and also contact the team at TeachAnywhere, they are very helpful! As for secondary school salaries, it really depends on which school you go to and how long you were teaching for before but at a decent school, wages a start around 100,000 Baht a month and can go up quite a bit depending on your years of experience. To give you a point of reference for prices, I do have a cost of living video but two bedroom apartments in the city centre begin at 30/35K a month
