You are not too young to start kendo at the age of 15. In Japan, we start kendo as young as 4 or 5 years old. I started kendo at the age of 7. My sensei started kendo at the age of 15. And now he is 7th dan and a main kendo instructor (shihan) of a Japanese university. Go for it!
Hiro imafuji hi I am Starlight and I always want to learn kendo really really thanks I promise I wouldn't use this for fun I will use this for self defense only thanks so much Sir 🌠
I first saw Kendo demonstrated on TV when I was 18 or 19, and I loved the look of it- the fact that there is so much ritual and tradition in it really appealed to me. However- there has never been a club within a reasonable distance of me - not even remotely close. Now, twenty-odd years later, a club has finally started within ten miles or so, and I'll finally get to have a go! I'm genuinely beside myself with glee this morning like a kid at christmas - I can't wait!
I will do my best follow your videos to the best of my ability. I preparing myself for a movie, and then need me to master this art with a sabre by January 2012 before I may go to Japan to finish the rest of my job out.
I've found this video for the sake of writing, as in a story I'm currently working on, the main character is rather forcefully enrolled into her schools kendo club after she lied about being part of it to explain why her hands hurt from bashing a training dummy in a magical world that she creates for herself each day, so I am watching these videos to give myself an understanding in order to accurately portray it within my story, so thank you for your videos :)
I only do kendo. I have done Iaido and Naginata for a while but since I moved around a lot, I had to stop learning Iaido and Naginata. Good to be a help!
Thank you so much for this video sir. Watching/listening to you explain the hand, foot, and body movements of the seiza along with the posture in detail gives me cause to move to Indiana with an eagerness to join your dojo. The rather small amount kendo training I've had in the past has been very informal and inconsistent. However, I've retained most of what I've learned. My very first martial arts sensei in hand-to-hand combat currently lives Indiana now (I've had several throughout my life starting at age 8), but he no longer teaches. We do stay in touch through social media though. He checks up on me every once in awhile. I sincerely hope that you continue with the patient cyber instruction sir. Mata-ne!
Thank you for your comment, Qu Dragon!😀 Hopefully, we can get together when you visit your teacher some day in the future when the virus is not acting up like now! I have tons of videos here but also have more info at kendo-guide.com. Hope you get a lot of info you need! 😀👍 PS...If you haven't, please subscribe to my channel! Thanks for your support! 🙏

Guys, Thanks for all the comments and sorry for the delay of my reply. I'm glad that you liked the video. More videos are coming up soon so stay tuned. Cheers, Hiro
I tried to find a Kendo dojo but could not find one close enough so I ended up doing Aikido and made it to Shodan. Good video,, nothing beats the basics
Tena koe, Chownz. You're welcome. I don't know which kendo club in NZ you belong to but as far as I know these clubs in NZ are all great. I miss kiwis. Looking forwards to going back there and talking to my mates :)
Excellent video. I'm beginning training in several martial arts, including Kendo, as a way to get back in shape after a back injury. I like it when people explain all parts of the martial art, including etiquette. Discipline is key.
hi i just started kendo and it is reaaally interesting and something completely new to me. your videos are helping me a lot! I really want to practice hard but I'm always wondering if I'm doing it wrong and i don't want to learn it wrongly and make it become a bad habit which i cant get rid of anymore . I'll do my best anyways and thanks for your help! ♡
Thank you for posting your video and showing me the introduction to Kendo. I am very interested in learning Kendo and I hope to gain more knowledge and to learn from your instruction here. Much appreciated.
Oh wow, I'm so glad to have found your videos. There are no schools of Kendo or any other legitimate sword arts where I live, so thank you so much for taking the time to do these. I know I'm only seeing the basics and nothing really replaces a good sensei in person, however, it is far better than having nothing to go on but my books :3
I dont have a bamboo sword but i have a wooden katana I've been interested in swords and martial arts for so long and I wanted to try them but I was too busy with my schooling I finally have time thank you
Ive always wanted to try Kendo for the experience. I've always preferred swords and i think it's a good way to train your body and mind. SAO urged me more to start looking into Kendo - and its one of my favourites.
+samuel river Are you in this Indiana kendo seminar list? I am thinking to have another 3 months seminar so please make sure to be in the list! Thank you! forms.aweber.com/form/19/1144166019.htm

Are the first few things about the meditation mandatory? or can you do it your way, like for me i put my dominant hand across aka right on top of left, then thumbs touching lightly, i always close my eyes too, is this a problem or is it just they way you were thought yourself?
Dear Mr. Hero how do you keep your gi and Hakama always in such great condition? The colors haven’t faded in years and I have been watching for a while. Mine sadly faded a few months into training even tho I take care of it more than my wedding suit
Hello, I seem to have trouble sitting in Seiza. I'm not from any kind of Asian heritage so it is pretty new to me. It's quite painful on my knees after about 3 minutes. Does this go away over time? Thanks in advance!
i have a few questions for you, the clothes your wearing, i heard there are two types of hakama, divided and undiv. is that true? does the kimono-obi ( i think its called) have to be black or dark colored? i never see a fully colored kimono exept where its either black or white, with red or blue hakama other than that i can pretty much get to mah studying... btw i can barely hear your words the sound in the background almost overpowers you.... im also studying japanese :D
I did Kendo in college and just started looking to get back in to it. Unfortunately, the closest Kendo Academy to me is 2.5 hours away. The same Academy I attended while I was in college. 😂
