Power probe works, so does just a piece of wire straight to battery positive as long as the starter body is grounded.

Can you tell me what gauge those clips are for connection to the battery? I'm trying to test these exact components off a motorcycle.

They were just regular old junky jumper cables. Think I got them for free out of an abandoned car.
