All great points. Just a few additional items of importance: 1. Know the FCC rules and regulations 2. When calling another unit or station, always use the "hey you, this is me" calling procedure. That is, always -- always -- identify who you're calling first, then yourself. So, if Battalion 14 is calling Dispatch, you would say "Dispatch, Battalion 14..." While it's not necessarily wrong to say "Dispatch FROM Battalion 14," the FROM is implied and just adds an unnecessary word. 3. Treat your radio communications as if it were like the old cellphones where you had to pay for each minute you talk. Keep transmissions brief and to the point and avoid superfluous communications (hint: FCC rules prohibit superfluous communications)
