The funny thing about bios flashback is you can update your bios without getting video output in uefi or even during post. If only I could figure out what's causing it though,the old motherboard had no such issues.

Your tip about the eps power cables helped me actually get my computer going because im a newb from 2 decades ago (haven't owned or built a pc in 2 decades) and only thinking that it was the 24 pin connector. Thankyou to you i can finally enjoy my amd 7800x3D on my ASROCK x670e pro RS with 32gb ram for emulation.

Most new motherboards nowadays (if not all) do have a flash button, but older cards don’t. For those, you need to move a jumper to or use a metal object that can lead electricity to short the correct pins in n the motherboard. A paperclip or tweezer should do fine if your board doesn’t have a jumper already.

1. you can use a larger drive, windows just doesn't offer to format it as fat32, you need to use third party tool like rufus. 2. name will vary. sometimes it's the brand name, other times a very specific name like internal board model number. some manufacturers even supply a special renaming program that will apply the right name on the bios file for bios flashback!

I used bios flashback but then built my computer 7 days later. I was surprised when i powered it up and it said hold on we can't continue until we update the bios. I was like, hold on, i thought i did that. But nooo, there is actually a final step that none of these videos mention. ... Bios flash back takes hold when you next boot up finished computer.

Btw it is possible to use any large USB stick for that, just need to reduce partition size.

The bios can also be easily flashed with the motherboard in the pc case using Flash-back or any other bios update method Plus most recent motherboards allow flash with no CPU instead

hey man! i need a recommendation. so i got 250 dollars right now and im trying to upgrade my motherboard,ram and CPU. i currently have a i7-4790 and a rtx 2060 and ddr 3 1600 mhz ram. i preferably want a 4800 mhz dual kit 2x8 gb. and a good cpu that wont bottleneck in any titles, for the motherboard idk what to get since there are so many options that are cheap and i want to get one thats cheap and is in the budget and is also good.

oddly you can use 64 Mb usb on it also, i had found my old old old usb, it was 64mb now i was using it as bios flash back or to update bios on some mobo or laptop 😊

You forgot something.It's more of a best practices thing but still could save you lots of headaches. If you are going to flash an update, you need to have that system on a UPS, even if the board has a backup BIOS on the board.

I was scared when I did this back in May. Lit up for a second then turned off. Clicking the button doesn't do anything anymore. I thought I broke something. Turns out that I turned off my PSU 😅. I thought it came with the switch as off so I flipped it not realizing I was turning it off.

@@ejay5990 I figured it out make sure you take your motherboard is completely unplugged only power then try that seemed to work for me had to take my cpu out and just hold it for 5 minutes while it went through its cycle also once you finished the motherboard should power off at that point just build your pc as usual just remember to plug in your cpu power connector lol I forgot to and was heartbroken for a few second lol once everything is plugged in snug you should be good give it a few minutes to boot and you’ll be set just had to download a bios to make my r5 5500 work with my msi mpg gaming plus b550

I was originally gonna get an i7-12000k with this motherboard-ASUS ROG Strix B660-A WiFi D4 LGA 1700(Intel 12th Gen). But then I decided I want the i7-13000k or I'd get the i9-12000k because it's better and cheap what should I do because I don't want my PC to mess up if the i9 can't also use ddr4 even though it says it can. 😢

My question is what if the motherboard just has its bios flashback led flash for 2+ hours and not finish the flash instead of shutting down after 5-10 minutes? What would I have to do by that point?

Some of the older X570 boards do need to be flashed before putting in the CPU, check your motherboard manual it should say there

I feel so dumb. If I had only read the manual better. Right there in black and white it said " no need to install cpu and memory". What am I afraid of? I did this in 1999 its just a little different technology. Thanks again for holding my hand and leading me in the right direction. I'll try to do better. I promise

I understand updating BIOS but what is BIOS flashback? And why should we do it? Can't I update motherboard once I assemble the PC and then update it? Also how will I know that I need to flash it before assembly?

Flashback basically just implies updating your BIOS to a newer or older version. Often times new BIOS versions offer stability and quality of life improvements such as memory spees and cpu compatibility. It's generally both quicker and safer to flash your bios without anything else attached to the motherboard. There was a lot of drama regarding warranty voids etc with flashing your BIOS on AM5 a while ago but that has since been adressed I believe.

My friend just built a pc, and on pc part picker, it said it might need a bios update. He's already built it but has no display. I suspect that the bios may be the issue. Is it safe to do this on a fully built pc?

You can use a drive larger than 32gb, but you will need to download software to be able to format it to fat32.

@@yuko1071 I think I used Minitool Partition Wizard which I found to be safe and effective. I'm sure there are many programs that can do the same thing. I don't understand why windows won't let you. I even tried command prompt and it wouldn't do it.

Updated from 1418 to 1813 and my 64gb of 6400 wasnt posting with xmp enabled green screen of death Everytime flashed back to 1413 works like it did before with xmp how tf does a bios update make ram unstable wtf lol

You can format fat32 to bigger sizes using tools. Windows has no problem reading and writing to it. Windows just wouldn't let you format by default.

If I had to guess. Because the BIOS flash IO system can't read a larger number of bytes than 32gb.

You should always update the bios in a new build. It prevents all kinds of problems. This short shows how to bios flashback during a build, you may not need to do this and may be able to just update after you post. See our "after you build" set up guide for more

I usually only update BIOS if there's a real need, for instance to upgrade your CPU, when I went from a 3600 to 5600x, the new chip needed BIOS support. Other than that I wouldn't personally bother as long as your system's running well

Just reflash. A bricked motherboard, most of the time, can be fixed if it has bios flashback.

Hello! I just tried flashing my mobo and did everything you did. The yellow light did flash for several minutes, but the right light on the mobo was also blinking, which scared me. I waited until the yellow light stopped blinking, waited a few seconds, and unplugged the PSU. Do yo think something went wrong? I'm doing all this before setup so I don't have a way to know if it posts or not. Any help would be much appreciated!

It's fine for the debug LEDs to flash during the bios flashback process. I'd try posting and see if it does. If not, flash the bios again.

sadly no pc maker makes such a solid experience in flashing a bios than DELL. Flashing any other brand pc feels like you could kill it even when you quadrupled checked to make sure it is the right version and it still kills the bios thus making it a dead pc.

@@PCBuilderChannel I searched it up. So, we need FAT32 for bios and USB flash drives bigger than 32gb can't be formatted to FAT32, normally that is. However, there are few ways to format larger flash drives to FAT32 and it worked for some people. Anyways, thanks for the feedback.
