So glad I found your channel. I used to do pottery in high school and I've been wanting to get back into it. I'm about to graduate from university in May and I'm super excited to immediately enroll in a pottery class :) for now I can enjoy watching your videos while I get through this last chaotic semester lol
Hey Jon! If you’re inspired to make it, I’d love to watch a video where you throw and glaze pieces entirely different than your signature look. Trying different types of clay, shapes, colors of glaze and techniques etc.
I love the happy spirit of folks who work with their hands. Well, I just love artistic folks in general. Excepting writers. Writers are often cranky drunks. I'm a writer ..... 8-(
Great wee video for those who bisque fire and can set their programmer........ We poor souls who now single fire in an old manual kiln and only use cones will have to wing it on the drying. 6 out of 6 and no blow ups yet, even with some thick walled pots. Thanks for sharing Jon!
No winging it necessary. To "Candle" or "Water Smoke", just turn on the bottom ring, with the peeps out, and top open. Generally do this over night. and then close it up the next day, and fire as normal.
Ok. I have mountains of greenware but haven't fired anything yet. I'm so afraid of something going wrong so I'm a sponge soaking up any and every thing I possibly can. My kiln is manual so I'm even more Leary. Thanks for the instructions
It just depends on the clay, and glazes you are using, not to mention a bit of personal preference. The lower you go, the more porous the clay will be, and it will suck the water in the glaze in a bit more, than a slightky higher firing. In my classroom, we do low fire. Bisque to 04, glaze to 05, vecause that's what the glaze manufacturer suggests. From what I've heard, from other potters, most bisque from 06 to 04.
Everytime I see other people shit I think I'm terrible LOL I was wondering if you would do something for me as a favor. If I send you some glaze would you fire it at cone 6 for me I want to see if the color difference is any different in your Kiln compared to mine. It's a Different Twist on randys red but for some reason mine comes out more of a brown it's kind of almost interesting is it speckled Lee and it works good with buttercream and floating blue layering the kids are weird lines in it. Let me know if you want to try this glaze but be forewarned that have not tested it for safety yet it would be a test situation only
