Thank you so much. I am picking my kiln up on Thursday and I'm less freaked out now I will say my kiln sitter doesnt have a timer. So ive ordered self supporting cones, an analog pyrometer and am gonna be checking all this regularly

This is the best video I’ve ever seen on kilns! You freakin blew my mind with info in the first 5 minutes! I’m suppose to get a used kiln Friday. So grateful to have this video to refer back to! Thank you

Hi, I am a beginner and purchased an Evenheat 4320LT. To my luck,it had never been used so I’m enjoying the experience so far. I fired a bisque and plan to run a glaze fire to ^6 I’m glad you said to run it with a pyrometric bar of one cone higher. I would have just ran it with a ^6 pyrometric bar instead of the ^7. If I want to fire to a ^6, about how long should I set my kiln sitter timer for? I don’t want it to turn my kiln off prematurely. Thank you.

If this is the first time firing to cone 6 I would put self supporting cones of 5 and 6 in the kiln where you can see them through the peephole. Then set the timer for 8 hours and check the cones every half hour from hour 6 on until you see cone 6 bending then check every 15 minutes. If the timer is getting close to shutting off and the cone is not bent add another two hours to the timer and keep checking. You can always add more time to the timer while the kiln is running. If you have a hand held pyrometer place the thermocouple in a peephole and keep watch on the temperature. Use the cones inside to verify. Hope this helps.

Hey there, thank you for such an informative video-it’s a bit difficult finding such detailed videos on this kiln. Looking at buying a similar model (DK 716-1) off a friend of a friend, but doing my due diligence first. What cone does this happen to fire to? 6, 8? Couldn’t quite catch it in the video. About how long are your bisque fires? I’ve been reading about 10 hours is expected for the Dover White (^5) clay I’m using. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge!

Sorry for the delayed response. This particular kiln is rated for cone 6 and it will reach it but struggles. It is much better for low fire. A cone 05 bisque firing on this kiln runs about 6-8 hours depending on how tightly I packed the kiln. It can also knock it out in 4 hours for when I'm doing an underglaze firing. What will determine the time a kiln takes to reach a temperature is size, power supply, age of the elements, thickness of the bricks and how tightly packed is the kiln.
